What is interesting is the fact that Guam was considered part of the Philippines prior to the Treaty of Paris (1898). The ethnic Chamorro (native people of Guam) were mingled with the Filipinos when the Spaniards administered the islands , and later on with the United States taking over, there is a considerable Filipino presence in the island. the overwhelming majority of the people living in Guam are Filipino or of Filipino descent .

Lyrics:

Tonight it's very clear, as we're both standing here,
there's so many things I want to say
I will always love you, I will never leave you alone.

Sometimes I just forget, say things I might regret,
it breaks my heart to see you crying.
I don't want to lose you,
I could never make it alone.

I am a man who would fight for your honor,
I'll be the hero you're dreaming of.
We'll live forever,knowing together
that we did it all for the glory of love.

You keep me standing tall, you help me through it all,
I'm always strong when you're beside me.
I have always needed you,
I could never make it alone.

I am a man who would fight for your honor,
I'll be the hero you're dreaming of.
We'll live forever,knowing together
that we did it all for the glory of love.

Just like a knight in shining armor,
from a long time ago.
Just in time I will save the day,
take you to my castle far away.

I am a man who would fight for your honor,
I'll be the hero you're dreaming of.
We'll live forever,knowing together
that we did it all for the glory of love.

We'll live forever, knowing together
that we did it all for the glory of love.

THE ruling Communist Party's nationalistic tabloid newspaper The Global Times has suggested that China take on The Philippines in a "small-scale war" over a disputed island in the South China Sea, underscoring the growing tension in the region.

The two countries have been engaged in a two-week standoff at Scarborough Shoal, which China calls Huangyan Island, as political tension between the two nations continues to escalate.

Last week, Chinese law enforcement vessels prevented The Philippines navy from detaining Chinese fishermen, who Manila claims were poaching.

The editorial in The Global Times, which was republished widely in other Chinese media, comes as The Philippines government has warned that China's continued aggression in claiming the entire South China Sea could impair navigation.

The Philippines has called for support from other nations.

"I think the current standoff is a manifestation of a larger threat to many nations," Philippines Foreign Minister Alberto del Rosario said.

The dispute is just one of a raft that China - which claims sovereignty of the entire resource-rich area of 3.2 billion sq km - has with six other nations that border the maritime region.

"China should be prepared to engage in a small-scale war at sea with The Philippines," The Global Times editorial said.

"Once the war erupts, China must take resolute action and deliver a clear message to the outside world that it does not want a war, but definitely has no fear of it. Nevertheless, such a war cannot put the South China Sea issue to an end."

I have a friend at the hospital who is Chinese and we talked about this situation today during lunch. He believes that the islands are closer to the Philippines and that this stand-off is causing damage to both nations' diplomatic relations.

He also told me that most Chinese in China don't even have access to some of the websites that are available to people in the west; as the state can ban and block certain websites and can close down internet access.

If Manila continues to ignore this country's repeated offer of and appeal for peaceful dialogue, it should not count on eternal Chinese restraint.

As Sun Tzu pointed out nothing is more difficult than the art of maneuvering for an advantageous position, and in trying to do so in the South China Sea, the Philippines is only getting itself into hot water.

Manila going too far

2012-04-27
(China Daily)

Beijing's response to the Manila-instigated standoff at Huangyan Island in the South China Sea has remained restrained and rational. As a responsible power, China has approached the dispute with the overall picture of Sino-Philippine ties and the stability of the region in mind.

However, in contrast to Beijing's restraint, Manila has continued with its provocative words and actions.

After China withdrew two of its maritime surveillance vessels from the area on Sunday to de-escalate the situation, the Philippines' response was to send more vessels to the island waters.

Recent remarks from Philippine officials have only added more fuel to the fire. During his visit to the United States on Monday, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Albert del Rosario said China is a national threat in the South China Sea and the Philippines should stand up to it.

As his country's top diplomat, Rosario should feel ashamed for uttering such irresponsible words. He should be reminded that it is his own country that started the current standoff.

This week started my 2nd week  for my Ph.D class on Advanced Research Methods and Statistics. I recently turned in my my last paper with the help of Isles, who is my helper editor (way to go Isles, wohoo!) and after coming to class, I had to present the basic synopsis of my findings and on possible problems with qualitative methods. I presented possible loop holes and future research additions.

As soon as I finished and surrendered the floor to questions, I was literally attacked by questions by some of my classmates, I have one classmate who was continually repeating why I prefered qualitative research, and that i should have gone for a quantitative approach.

We had a conversation afterwards and compared our research pathway.

This guy is no joke; we had a lot to talk about and in the end of the day, i found another issue i should address in the upcoming final paper for this class.

PS. I would like to give a big thanks to Isles for reading over 2 of my Ph.D doctoral papers so far. She's really an angel. ;)

I could not help but feel empathy and understanding on your part, Vince. In case of friction and conflict at work, it's really good to address the situation and make it know that you hear what they are saying, as well don't be afraid to comment on your disagreements with them. I've been in a situation before at work as well as in the classroom where I have been lectured down as well as put down by some attending M.Ds who think that they know everything and have the priviledge to put down any requests by medical interns; or even have the audacity to think that we don't know what we're talking about. I remember one time, i was working shoulder to shoulder with an M.D in the Intensive Care Unit and as the Intern that night, he felt as if he could take advantage of me. I really got fed up and objected to him and reminded him of the allied health approach. He stopped baya.

In regards to your work situation, Isles is correct in that conflict resolution should be focused. However, if this same person continues to put you down and belittle you, make it known that you disagree with this person. I can understand that in a work place, there is a sense of competition and rivalry, but this should not be pretext to put others down.

I for one am in the position of stating your mind and standing up to principle.

Best of luck and feel better.

The use of incense in the ancient world was common, especially in religious rites where it was used to keep demons away. In Judaism, incense was included in the thanksgiving offerings of oil, rain, fruits, wine (cf. Numbers 7:13-17). The Lord instructed Moses to build a golden altar for the burning of incense (cf. Exodus 30:1-10), which was placed in front of the veil to the entrance of the meeting tent where the ark of the covenant was kept.

We do not know exactly when the use of incense was introduced into our Mass or other liturgical rites. At the time of the early Church, the Jews continued to use incense in their own Temple rituals, so it would be safe to conclude that the Christians would have adapted its usage for their own rituals

The purpose of incensing and the symbolic value of the smoke is that of purification and sanctification. For example, in the Eastern Rites at the beginning of Mass, the altar and sanctuary area were incensed while Psalm 50, the “Miserere,” was chanted invoking the mercy of God. The smoke symbolizes the prayers of the faithful drifting up to heaven: the Psalmist prays, “Let my prayer come like incense before you; the lifting up of my hands, like the evening sacrifice” (Psalm 141). Incense also creates the ambiance of heaven: The Book of Revelation describes the heavenly worship as follows: “Another angel came in holding a censer of gold. He took his place at the altar of incense and was given large amounts of incense to deposit on the altar of gold in front of the throne, together with the prayers of all God’s holy ones. From the angel’s hand, the smoke of the incense went up before God, and with it the prayers of God’s people.”

Ever since i was in college, whenever i am feeling down and feel the need for support and encouragement, I visit my church's adoration chapel, which is always open 24/7.

I remember when it was November 20, 2007, when I found out that my best friend had committed suicide because of his major clinical depression. I was so overwhelmed with grief and sadness of his unexpected passing that I could not stop crying. I was scared for him, so one day, I was compelled to visit St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, which is my home parish in Williamstown, New Jersey. I visited church in the dead of night, at 12 midnight. I thought the church was closed, but to my surprise, the building was open and the lights on. I poured my sentiments, my emotions, my grief and the emotion within me out and bared them open unto the Throne of Grace.

Tears poured from my face and  with supplication, I asked the Lord of Mercy, Jesus Christ, to have mercy on the soul of my best friend.

After finishing a novena for the soul of my friend, Robert, I felt a sense of comfort. Ever since then, I have offered novena for my friend and have visited church's perpetual eucharistic adoration to give my hurts and my troubles to the Throne of Grace.

For me, praying in perpetual adoration chapel gives me peace. It provides the perfect place for me to contemplate on my failures, my sins committed, and for me to reconcile with God.

Funny how you mentioned about running a race, I thought of the verse found in Philippians chapter 3 that says,

"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus."

and also on Hebrews chapter 12 that says,

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

So yea, Isles, keep on pressing forward ! ;)  8)

Bless your heart, Isles. Despite the health condition you have that prevents you from genuflecting, you still have this yearning within you to do so (and enjoy) , which I am sure our Lord sees clearly in your heart.

Genuflecting , for me, is one of the ways we express our reverence and Love for God...

It is one of the holy traditions that has been passed on by the Church throughout the centuries.

A gesture of reverence

This is peculiar to the Roman Rite, and consists in the momentary bending of one or both knees so as to touch the earth. Genuflecting, understood in this sense, has now almost everywhere in the Western Church been substituted for the profound bowing down of head and body that formerly obtained, and that is still maintained in the East as the supreme act of liturgical reverence. It is laid down by modern authorities that a genuflexion includes every sort of inclination, so that any bowing while kneeling is, as a rule, superfluous (Martinucci, Man. Sacr. Cærem., I, i, nn. 5 and 6). There are certain exceptions, however, to this rule, in the liturgical cultus of the Blessed Sacrament. The practice of genuflecting has no claim to antiquity of origin. It appears to have been introduced and gradually to have spread in the West during the later Middle Ages, and scarcely to have been generally looked upon as obligatory before the end of the fifteenth century.

The older Roman Missals make no mention of it. Father Thurston gives A.D. 1502 as the date of the formal and semi-official recognition of these genuflexions. Even after it became usual to raise the consecrated Host and Chalice for the adoration of the Faithful after the Consecration, it was long before the priest's preceding and following genuflexions were insisted upon (see Thurston in "The Month", Oct., 1897). The genuflexions now indicated at such words as "Et incarnatus est", "Et Verbum caro factum est", and the like, are likewise of comparatively recent introduction, though in some cases they replace a prostration that was usual, in ancient times, when the same sacred words were solemnly uttered (see, for instance, in regard to the "Et incarnatus", the curious passage in the work of Radulphus Tongrensis (De can. observ.). The Carthusian custom of bending the knee, yet so as not to touch the ground, is curious; and has interest from the historical point of view as testifying to the reluctance formerly felt by many to the modern practice of genuflecting. See also the Decree of the S. Cong. of Rites (n. 3402) of 7 July, 1876, insisting that women as well as men must genuflect before the Blessed Sacrament.

The simple bending of the knee, unlike prostration, cannot be traced to sources outside Christian worship. Thus, the pagan and classical gesture of adoration consisted in the standing before the being or thing to be worshipped, in putting the right hand to the mouth (ad ora), and in turning the body to the right. The act of falling down, or prostration, was introduced in Rome when the Cæsars brought from the East the Oriental custom of worshipping the emperors in this manner as gods. "Caium Cæsarem adorari ut deum constituit cum reversus ex Syria non aliter adire ausus esset quam capite velato circumvertensque se, deinde procumbens" (Suet., Vit., ii). The liturgical rules for genuflecting are now very definite.

    1) All genuflect (bending both knees) when adoring the Blessed Sacrament unveiled, as at Expositions.

    2)  All genuflect (bending the right knee only) when doing reverence to the Blessed Sacrament, enclosed in the Tabernacle, or lying upon the corporal during the Mass. Mass-servers are not to genuflect, save when the Blessed Sacrament is at the altar where Mass is being said (cf. Wapelhorst, infra). The same honour is paid to a relic of the True Cross when exposed for public veneration.

    3) The clergy in liturgical functions genuflect on one knee to the cross over the high altar, and likewise in passing before the bishop of the diocese when he presides at a ceremony. From these genuflexions, however, an officiating priest, as also all prelates, canons, etc., are dispensed, bowing of the head and shoulders being substituted for the genuflexion.

    4) On Good Friday, after the ceremony of the Adoration of the Cross, and until Holy Saturday, all, clergy and laity alike, genuflect in passing before the unveiled cross upon the high altar.

To genuflect [Latin genu flectere, geniculare (post-classic), to bend the knee; Greek gonu klinein or kamptein] expresses:

   1) an attitude
   2) a gesture: involving, like prostration, a profession of dependence or helplessness, and therefore very naturally adopted for praying
        and for worship in general.

"The knee is made flexible by which the offence of the Lord is mitigated, wrath appeased, grace called forth" (St. Ambrose, Hexaem., VI, ix). "By such posture of the body we show forth our humbleness of heart" (Alcuin, De Parasceve). "The bending of the knee is an expression of penitence and sorrow for sins committed" (Rabanus Maurus, De Instit. Cler., II, xli).

okay...hope he will continue to work on his unfinished business for the development of Bohol.  ;D ;D ;D

I'm actually excited on his concerted effort to rebuild the hospital systems in BOHOL. He is trying to update and rebuild the Gallares Hospital as well as other hospitals that are in dire need of update.

and the winner is.............CHATTO...

despite the black propa, the concerted effort to destroy the man, the people have spoken...resoundingly, they do not believe in LIES...they believed in performance, track records, the goodness of the man...that even in known opponent bailiwicks...Chatto made a good showing...for CHATTO had etched in the hearts of the people his goodness..ang pagkamatibangon, pagkamaligdon, sayon duolon ug maayong panglantaw sa ugma pohon para sa tanang Bol-anon...

MAO NA NI...

Well said. Action and deeds is what supports and builds character. Keep it up, Governor Chatto. :)

had tried practice shooting twice, once with .38 caliber guns (poor shot; i couldn't tell where the bullets went) and the other with an M16, and i promised NEVER to do it again, ever.  the kick of the M16 was painful on the shoulder.  i hate guns. :(

awww, the recoil is pretty pronounced noh? but you can get stock extensions to reduce recoil. i usually go shooting with my uncle to shoot. one time my sister came along, too.

where these ur hubby's guns?

In addition, before she starts talking about the conditions in Balilihan, she should focus her eyes on her own constituents in Carmen. She needs to effect better change and an increase in standard of living as well as introduce better infrastructural developments in her town before she can think about what is going on in neighboring towns, let alone, the entire province of Bohol.
