Filipino seafarers are now perceived by many as among the best in the world, an international maritime official said on Thursday.
Graham Young, International Transport of Workers Federation (ITF) head of Maritime Operations in London said the Filipino mariners, which accounts for 25 per cent of the entire seafarers manning the merchant shipping fleet of the world, are being looked up because of their professionalism and unparalleled commitment towards work.
“There is now high regard for Filipino seamen. And with the strong supervision and support from (your) government, they will continue to demonstrate competence, professionalism and even bravery as risks and hazards are so inherent in their jobs,’’ Young told the Bulletin. - Manila Bulletin (source)
Ang pagiging barumbado o lasingero o magiging addict o nagiging dalagang ina ang isang anak ,yan ay mangyayari din kahit both parents nandiyan sa Pinas..I say that's why the mother who is left behind is the biggest social influence of the behavior of their children,,Yung mga Nanay na nagmahjong maghapon, puro social doon social dito walang trabaho, mga social climber, kadalasan sa mga anak nila ay failure sa buhay.I would like to share to all OCW this article i read from Inquirer ,i hope they will remember this story when they are working overseas and serve them well..http://blogs.inquirer.net/moneysmarts/

Depende....,
Quote from: Gener on June 18, 2010, 03:42:33 PM..To be a OCW we must have a strong personality, wide understanding about life and welfare to our family, good understanding about value of money,Honesty to our wife and children, and not a sentimental person..These are lists of few thing you need to be an OCW.If you think you don't have one of these things ,its better to stay at home lalo na yung mga seloso at selosa ..Baka magka problema pa at wala na si Dear Kuya Eddie..Kaya ang nangyayari nang ibang OCW umuwi sa Pinas sira ang ulo deretso sa Mental Hospital..Payong kapatid lang Kabayan if you have weak at heart and weak personality huwag na kayong mag OCW..
The link below mirrors one of the reasons why I say what i wnat to say to my son. This time, I'm expressing my self as a son to my father. This is for all of you fellow OFWs in our endless struggle to provide a better means for our family and to all the fathers as well, this is for all of us.

Quote from: Mike Ortega Ligalig on June 19, 2010, 01:27:42 AMtsk tsk tig inom ra ba ko ug tea unya naa sab ko arthritis..
A US study on more than 76,000 women found consuming tea raised the risk, while drinking coffee had no impact.
Tea-lovers who enjoyed more than four cups a day had the highest risk - being 78% more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis than those who drank none.
But drinking any amount of tea increased the chance by 40%, compared with people who never drank tea.
The findings were presented at the Annual Congress of the European League Against Rheumatism in Rome.
Professor Christopher Collins, from Georgetown University Medical Centre in the US, said he was surprised by the differences between coffee and tea. - Yahoo

people are so rude nowadays. maybe because they care too much of themselves rather than for others. my experience with this is so simple yet rude. i went shopping and i had so many plastic bags with me. i took the bus (1rmb only compared to taxi which is about 10rmb), and this young man just looked at me and did not stand up to offer his seat. so rude!

Quote from: Mike Ortega Ligalig on June 12, 2010, 05:40:57 AMCorrect me if i'm wrong In that case the seaman if proven guilty could be sent to Panama and serve his jail sentence there...??
Pinoy Bar Exam Review: Criminal Law
After drinking one (1) case of San Miguel beer and taking two plates of "pulutan", Binoy, a Filipino seaman, stabbed to death Sio My, a Singaporean seaman, aboard M/V "Princess of the Pacific", an overseas vessel which was sailing in the South China Sea. The vessel, although Panamanian registered, is owned by Lucio Sy, a rich Filipino businessman. When M/V "Princess of the Pacific" reached a Philippine Port at Cebu City, the Captain of the vessel turned over the assailant Binoy to the Philippine authorities. An information for homicide was filed against Binoy in the Regional Trial Court of Cebu City. He moved to quash the information for lack of jurisdiction.
Question: If you were the Judge, will you grant the motion?
Answer:
Yes, the Motion to Quash the Information should be granted. The Philippine court has no jurisdiction over the crime committed since it was committed on the high seas or outside of Philippine territory and on board a vessel not registered or licensed in the Philippines (US vs. Fowler, 1 Phil 614).
It is the registration of the vessel in accordance with the laws of the Philippines, not the citizenship of her owner, which makes it a Philippine ship. The vessel being registered in Panama, the laws of Panama govern while it is in the high seas.
