As sad as the reality it is about may be, the woman for whom this poem was written committed suicide a few months ago.  However she may have died, she lived her life profoundly and those who knew her she affected very deeply.  Those she left behind will have lost the sun that shone upon them.

To put it more simply, what does being a citizen mean to you?
#1306
How extensive do you want your dynasty to be, GEC?  Do you want control over a barangay, a town, a city, a province, a country, an international region, or the world?

The position of editor may become a thing of the past but I hope human editing will continue.  Otherwise the quality of thought of what we're reading will quickly deteriorate and we'll soon be reduced to using "Wow! That's amazing!" for everything that astounds our by-then limited intellect.

Use it or lose it also applies to our brains.

I will not presume to know anything about the procedure of loading cargoes into ships or of security measures at piers and ports, but I know enough to congratulate a person for a job well done.

Five second-hand cars are just the tip of the iceberg of car-smuggling in the Philippines, and this accomplishment may even distract people from far more serious issues, but if you insult the police when they do something bad and insult them also when they do good, they soon won't care what the people will say of them.  Charity in word and in deed are far more encouraging than criticism at every turn.

I have.  And we're talking of an age difference that's more than ten years here.  Not that I'm attracted to every older woman I meet.  She just had that kind of appeal.  I made her cry and I still regret having done it but we're good friends now. ;)

Much is still to be desired of their performance, especially since they can be more efficient than they are, but I have friends who are cops and I know that they have a difficult time dealing with incompetent and sometimes corrupt superiors, sycophantic peers, lack of manpower, lack of logistics, self-important politicians, and the occasional well-connected criminal.

Like Benelynne-san, however, I also believe that the entire community primarily bears the obligation of watching over itself.

These past few weeks, though, ning-linaw-linaw na man pud gamay.  Let's pray that such crimes don't break out again in Bohol.  (Although it should be noted that the number of unsolved crimes is still somewhat high.)  Poverty is often made a reason for committing crimes but let's not come to a point where we accept it as a justification.

Not really a Japayuki.  The story the lyrics tell is that they grew up together as childhood friends and learned about love just as he was blossoming into a young man and she into a young woman while learning to dance the El Bimbo.  Somehow they are separated from each other.  Many years later, he learns that she is working as a dishwasher in Ermita and is a single parent.  He also learns later that she had been run over at a dark street corner.  He then laments that he can no longer tell her he loves her and that only in dreams can he take her in his arms and dance with her their last El Bimbo.  Tananan, tananan.... ;)

It is said that Magtangtang got its name because it is where Dagohoy would take off his armor after his battles with the Spanish forces, which, of course, sometimes included Filipino conscripts.

However, it is also said that the place got its name because it used to be frequented by bandits and it is where people's belongings, and sometimes lives, were involuntarily taken from them.

Ok.  Someone suggested that we come up with an eyeball event for Tubag Bohol members who are based nearby.  Now I cannot really qualify what is "nearby" since, because of circumstances, it may be easier for some Ubay-based members to participate than it is for, say, members based in nearer towns (depending on how busy you are), so anyone who is based in Bohol is invited.

However, an Executive Committee (EXECOM) of sorts will need to meet and plan and organize the activity.  So, any volunteers?  (And I do mean volunteers kay from our pockets ra jud ning atong organizational expenses.)

Updates will be posted in this thread. :)

"I see, " said the wife indignantly."And would you let her wear my old clothes?" "I suppose, if she wanted to" said the husband. "Really, " said the wife icily. When I was 11 y/o. I was being circumcised by an Indian doctor---and the analgesics weren't penetrating at all-----so he continued to cut as I was screaming and kicking. :)

By the way, Rico Blanco (the genius behind Rivermaya) has left the band and Bamboo has his own band, which has been doing well since their first hits in 2004, I think.

daghan baya gyud talented sa atua no?natingala ko nga wa kalusot sa america ang atong uban nga kanta. naa nuon mga mex nga bisan nagkalisod ug pronounce sikat man duon diri...

It all boils down to economics and demographics.  There are more Hispanics than there are Filipinos in the USA and it has been estimated that by 2016 they will outnumber African-Americans as the leading minority culture in the US.  Though Hispanics have varying ethnicity (Mexican, Spanish, Colombian, Puerto Rican, etc.) they all speak one language.  Whereas, though we may be classified as Asians, our languages (kay daghan ra ba jud) are distinct from that of other Asian countries.  Producing Filipino music in the US would be far less profitable for the players of the American music industry than producing Latin music.

Si, mi amigo.  Sensaciones obstinadas y muy dura cabeza. ;)  (Pardon my poor, limited Spanish.)  As for the rest of your message, of which I only understand half (and thankfully so, otherwise I might be more embarrassed than I already am), gracias but I feel unworthy of such words.  I think we may find them more fitting for benelynne-san than they are for me. :D
