In Bild the photograph was accompanied by a caption declaring that the future queen had a "beautiful bum".

It shows the Duchess of Cambridge's blue and white summer dress lifted by a gust of wind when the royal couple got out of a helicopter in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.

The British press initially reacted with outrage to Bild, with the Daily Mail calling it "a breach of privacy" while blasting the "crude" caption that appeared alongside.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail took a different approach, publishing the picture with the offending area pixellated alongside a piece by Australian-born columnist Amanda Platell urging Kate to dress differently to avoid "another embarrassing wardrobe malfunction".

The Times' columnist Carol Midgley meanwhile described the decision by foreign newspapers to use the picture as "sleazy and creepy" and described the fascination as perplexing "as if people somehow expected to find something else under (her skirt)".

The image was widely available on the Internet and Twitter.

British press maintains Kate photo blackout
AFP News â€" Wed, May 28, 2014

The British media maintained a blackout Wednesday on a photograph showing the bare bottom of Prince William's wife Kate, despite the picture being used in other countries.

One of Rupert Murdoch's Australian newspapers published the photograph on Wednesday, saying it was refusing to follow the "ridiculous" ban imposed by the British press.

The Sydney Daily Telegraph published the photograph the day after Germany's biggest-selling newspaper, Bild, became the first publication to use the image.

The Kohler NUMI Toilet

Daily Ticker

First there was the smart fridge, then the smart television and now the smart…toilet? 75% of Japanese homes already own these toilets and now two companies, Toto Ltd. and Lixil Corp. are setting out to bring the biggest craze in Tokyo stateside.

Imagine a toilet seat that lifts and closes automatically, heats up, adjusts to your size, and even has an automatic bidet, if so inclined a user can even link their smartphone to the bowl to play music and keep a record of comings and goings.

This isn’t a new concept. The toilets can run more than $5,000 and have been in the homes of the rich and famous for years, but now one man, Yoshiaki Fujimori, wants to bring these appliances to the masses. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal he said he aimed to be the Steve Jobs of toilets and so far so good. These smart toilets are growing twice as fast as the overall industry.

Fujimori is planning to launch a multi-million dollar advertising campaign within the United States to advertise these bidet-equipped toilets and some luxury hotels are installing them in their guest’s bathrooms.

“Industry presents iPhone,” Fujimori told The Wall Street Journal, “Industry presents shower toilet.”

“I would call this an absolute, unequivocal sign of the bubble except for the fact that it’s huge in Japan and that economy hasn’t gone anywhere in forever,” says Yahoo Finance’s Jeff Macke.

“If this becomes a trend in the United States that will certainly be a sign that the economy is coming back and the housing market will be coming back,” says Yahoo Finance editor-in-chief Aaron Task.

“When 10% of U.S. toilets are smart toilets and they cost more than $4,000…I will short every single stock, equity, and real estate opportunity I can get my hands on,” agrees Macke.

January 2015 will be a significant month for the Philippines, as it will get a visit from no less than Pope Francis.

The Pope said he plans to visit the Philippines and Sri Lanka in January, Catholic News Service reported Tuesday.

While no other details were immediately available, the CNS said the Pope "announced he plans to visit the Philippines and Sri Lanka in January."

Last May 19, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle told CNS in a separate interview that plans are underway for Pope Francis' visit to the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

At the time, however, Tagle said the visit would be in "early 2015."

"The Vatican has not yet announced the dates and the specific itinerary that the pope will observe, but I am confident it will happen early next year," he was quoted in the interview as saying.

Visit Yolanda, quake victims

In the same interview, Tagle said one purpose of the papal visit could be "to come close to the people who suffered from the recent typhoon (in November) and the earthquake (in October)."

"We will see how that could be done. But he, I think, would want that to be a defining character of his trip," he said.

On the other hand, Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said there is no problem with making preparations on short notice if the visit pushes through.

“The pope is welcome anytime. The time to prepare is not an obstacle,” Villegas said in an article posted on the CBCP news site .

The same article said that should the visit pushes through, Pope Francis will be the third pope to visit the Philippines, after Pope Paul VI (1970) and now St. John Paul II (1981 and 1995).

Villegas said many Filipinos will pitch in for the preparations because “Filipinos love the pope.”

On the other hand, he said security would not be an issue. “There is no problem without any solution,” he said.

The CBCP said Pope Francis will travel to South Korea from August 14 to 18 this year for the Asian Youth Day (AYD).

It noted the pope earlier indicated he wants to visit areas in Visayas hit by super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) last year.

Also, the CBCP said it invited the pope to attend the International Eucharistic Congress set in Cebu in January 2016. â€" Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News

The Department of Justice is poised to file child abuse and trafficking charges against an Italian diplomat, who allegedly sexually abused three minors while on vacation in the Philippines.

In a nine-page resolution, Biñan city prosecutor Agripino Baybay III said he found probable cause to charge Daniele Bosio, the Italian ambassador to Turkmenistan, with violation of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Anti-Child Abuse Law.

"Most revealing... are the sworn declarations given by complainants by way of reply stating that while they were all given a bath by respondent at his condo unit in Eastwood before proceeding to Splash Island, the latter fondled their sex organs causing the same to be erect," read the resolution.

"Certainly, respondent's aforesaid act is imperative and telling of a concealed objective on his part of exposing complainants to sexual exploitation, taking advantage of their vulnerabilities as minor children, by affording them short-term respite and amusement in order to obtain their consent and have control over them," it added.

Bosio was apprehended while on holiday in the Philippines last March 5. A police report confirmed the arrest of one "Daniel Bosio" in Laguna. It described him as an Italian national but did not identify him as a diplomat at the time.

The police report said Bosio was arrested at a resort in Biñan after the police received complaints from Catherine Scerri and Lily Flordelis of Bantay Tuluyan Foundation alleging the foreigner had with him three male children aged 12, 10 and 9.

According to the victims, who were street children in Caloocan City, they were sleeping when Bosio woke them up and invited them to go swimming. Bosio and the children first ate a fast food chain and headed to his condo unit, before going to the Laguna resort.

In his defense, Bosio had argued that he "merely acted in the performance of his social and moral duty to afford them their rights to play and recreation, as well as their basic rights to food, clothing, and cleanliness."

The city prosecutor said Bosio's defense would be "best ventilated during a full blown trial, not in this proceeding where the quantum of evidence needed to warrant the filing of an information in court is only probable cause."  â€"NB, GMA News

He said that recently, their group was in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental where local officials from the city down to the barangay (village) levels have signified their intention to join the crusade that is calling for Duterte to run for the highest position in the country in 2016.

“We were also invited at the session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dumaguete City where we were given a chance to talk about the movement,” Masanguid said.

The movement will also target around eight million votes from the Visayas which, Masanguid said, would not be difficult to achieve due to the overwhelming support they received in the area from government officials and ordinary citizens that include drivers, farmers, and even market vendors.

He said that in Cebu, most of the taxi drivers and ordinary vendors knew Duterte due to his hard stand against drugs and campaign against all forms of criminalities.

Some folks in Leyte and Bohol also owned Duterte, noting that the mayor’s ancestors had once thrived in the two provinces.

Masanguid also told the Manila Bulletin that during the last week of this month, the movement will finalize their networks in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro City, and Surigao del Sur.

Some of their workers are also working closely in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao for the movement to roll starting next month.

Manila Bulletin â€" 22 hours ago

Davao City â€" Several months after setting-up their networks in Mindanao, the Duterte for President Movement is now reaching the Visayas areas, the organizers disclosed yesterday.

In an interview with the Manila Bulletin yesterday, village chieftain Mar Masanguid, movement head, said that they are now setting up their networks in at least seven provinces in the Visayas.

These include Leyte, Cebu, Iloilo, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, and Biliran.

“Local residents in most provinces in the Visayas warmly welcomed us, signifying their intent to support the candidacy of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for President in 2016,” Masanguid said.

He added that networks in most parts of Mindanao had already been installed, which include the areas of Davao Region, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan and Surigao provinces.

“We are targeting about eight to nine million votes here in Mindanao,” Masanguid said, adding that at present, the group already garnered almost six million signature votes endorsing Duterte for president.

Weird and Extreme / Thomas Berdue
May 26, 2014, 03:52:04 PM
On February 19, 1851, two men robbed San Francisco dry-goods merchant C.J. Jansen & Company and assaulted the proprietor before making off with $2,000 in gold coins. The following day, police arrested James “English Jim” Stuart, an infamous Australian career criminal. Stuart was identified as the robber, but there was one problem: The suspect denied he was James Stuart, calling himself another Australian immigrant named Thomas Berdue.

Authorities refused to believe this story, especially after several witnesses positively identified Berdue as James Stuart. Both Berdue and Stuart just happened to have a small scar over their left eye and an amputated section of their left forefinger.

Since no one believed Berdue’s claims, he stood trial for Stuart’s crimes. He received a 14-year sentence for the robbery, and things then got even worse for him. James Stuart was also wanted for the murder of a sheriff in nearby Marysville, so Berdue was found guilty of this murder and got a death sentence.

However, before Berdue’s execution could be carried out, he finally caught a lucky break. The real James Stuart was apprehended while attempting to rob a ship in San Francisco. Stuart confessed to the sheriff’s murder and the robbery, and on July 11, he was hanged a mere two hours after being sentenced.

Once news of Stuart’s execution reached Marysville, Thomas Berdue was finally exonerated of Stuart’s charges and released.-- http://listverse.com/

Health and Food / Vinegar: the next superfood?
May 25, 2014, 10:12:31 PM
AFP Relax â€" Fri, May 23, 2014

Between the balsamic, sherry and red wine vinegars on our salads and the alcohol vinegars in our cleaning products, the applications for the acidic liquid are virtually endless. But can vinegar be considered a health food?

A report published by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) in the Journal of Food Science shows that certain types of vinegar could actually offer significant health benefits.

According to the studies cited in the article, vinegar is rich in antioxidants, which could reduce accelerated aging and even slow the development of certain cancers or degenerative brain disorders. The authors of the report also point to vinegar's antibacterial properties, its ability to reduce the effects of diabetes, and its contribution to improved cardiovascular health and blood pressure. Vinegar is also said to help athletes recuperate after intense physical effort.

Finally, the report notes that individuals who consume certain types of vinegar on a daily basis have been shown to have lower appetites: a finding that could be applied when developing weight loss plans for obese patients.

The authors at the IFT nonetheless indicated that further research will be necessary to validate any claims regarding vinegar's health benefits.

“We hope to give justice to the victim and we don’t want this case to be part of the unsolved killings in Cebu. That’s why I am calling Mayor Cortes, the NBI and other groups to look into this case with focus”, matod ni Tan. (dugang taho ni EOB sa Sun.Star Cebu)

“The plan of the girl was to get us all out of the house while my father's in Europe for a month,” Maegan explained, referring to Freddie’s trip abroad this month.

She knows the feeling because Meagan is no stranger to black magic herself.

“Ako nakulam din ako at some point in my life. I had an ex (-boyfriend) that did the same to me. And I was the same way. Anything he said, ‘yun ang nangyari.”

She recalls how she recovered from the “spell”: “I just snapped out of it because my titas (the sisters of my dad) and my lola (the mom of my dad), they know about that... about black magic, kulam. It does exist. We can't deny it na nandyan. May studies about it.”

Dad in danger

While acknowledging that her dad could be in danger, Freddie’s 35-year-old “anak” said she won’t be on her dad’s side anymore.

“He's in danger because he puts himself in that situation. And now na pinalayas niya ko sa bahay, lalo nang walang tao doon to stop what is happening.”

Maegan added, “He’s like under some weird spell. He doesn’t listen to anyone anymore.”

No reconciliation in sight

Maegan, recalling an incident when she left home 17 years ago, stressed that she’s prepared to be disowned by her father this time around.

"It was about rebellion. I was young and I was angry. And now I'm 35… I know why I'm angry. I have reasons now. And pwede kong isa-isahin lahat ng dahilan ko for being mad, being angry and being regretful about being an Aguilar."

It’s been over a week since her dad threw them out of the house because of “rotten veggies” and an unpaid P1,500 debt. Quite embarrassing and pathetic, Maeagan conceded, since she comes from a well-off family, with yayas attending to their needs.

She still vividly remembers how her fatherâ€"with eyes glaring and skin turning redâ€"screamed, when they parted: “Ikaw ang pinakamasamang anak ko. Akala mo ba proud ako sa'yo? Hindi. Lumayas kayong lahat!”

Series of unfortunate events

It’s like her 61-year-old father is under his teenage wife’s spell.

“Malakas 'yung kutob ko na kinulam si Tatay o ginayuma. Kasi 'yung family ni Jovie na sinasabi niyang family niya, hindi niya kamukha. Mukha silang mga mangkukulam. 'Yung mga hitsura nila mukhang hindi gagawa ng mabuti.”

Maegan said she could sense something “strange and shady” invading a once normal household.

Her suspicions grew as days before she was evicted, Maegan said Jovie also had their cook and maid kicked out of the house.

Yahoo Southeast Asia Newsroom/Yahoo - Maegan Aguilar speaks to Yahoo Philippines in a tell-all interview on Tuesday

Maegan Aguilar, singer Freddie Aguilar’s estranged daughter, couldn’t blame anyone about her father being “out of character” but her 17-year-old stepmom Jovie Albao.

“What happened to this house? I have no one else to blame but the wife,” she told Yahoo Philippines Tuesday in a hotel in Pasay City where she and her family are living in transient since they were kicked out of the house on May 12.

Maegan thinks everything in the Aguilars’ Fairview residence has become stranger by the day since Jovie became queen of the household.

“My father was never like that in his whole life. And I have known him for 35 years. He had never been this way,” Maegan stressed.

May 20, 2014, 07:13:38 PM
Dendrites are crystals that form in a repeating pattern that gives them a tree-like appearance. In mineralogy, dendritic crystal formations are created whenever manganese- and iron-rich water flows along the fractures and bedding planes of various rock types. In chemistry, a dendrite is any crystal that branches into two parts during growth.

These fractal patterns give objects the appearance of an intricately made tree branch, and the imagery is made into an arguably more impressive winter aesthetic when it is made with ice.

With ice, these patterns are made when moisture from the surrounding atmosphere condenses almost instantaneously. The result is a series of patterns that will continue to repeat themselves until environmental conditions change. Dendritic ice crystal growth is similar to that of a living thing, with the crystal becoming infinitely more complex over time. -- http://listverse.com/

This early, some policemen have expressed concern regarding the government’s plan to detain the lawmakers at the Custodial Center.

“I think they’re too much for us to handle,” said a junior police officer.

“It’s very possible that they will use their influence to enjoy some perks for their convenience. If that will happen, we might be at the mercy of powerful politicians,” he lamented.

Besides guarding the prison complex, the 100-strong Custodial Service Unit also provides security to detainees attending court hearings.

Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, spokesman of PNP Director General Alan Purisima, insisted that the renovation in the detention buildings at Camp Crame was just part of the PNP’s regular program to upgrade its facilities.

“This is not intended for a particular group. The PNP just wants to be ready for any situation,” Mayor told reporters.

The source said detainees occupying Building B have been told that they would be transferred to Building C apparently to ensure that individuals linked to the multibillion-peso fund scam would be occupying the same area.

On Monday, HSS personnel were seen conducting a security survey at the unoccupied Building C.

Currently detained in Building B are communist leader Benito Tiamzon and two other alleged communist rebels who were arrested with him and his wife, Wilma, in Cebu last March.

Also occupying the detention building are former policeman Rizal Alih, the longest detainee at the complex who was arrested for the killing of two senior Army officers during the 1989 siege of Camp Cawa-Cawa in Zamboanga City, and several Moro rebels.

The detention building, located at the back portion of the one-hectare compound, was previously vacant, the source added.

The building is one of the eight detention bungalows within the prison compound, which holds several prominent individuals, among them retired police generals, facing various criminal charges.

It has eight detention cells each measuring about 10 square meters, according to the police official.

The individual cell also has its own toilet and bath which is only “half covered.”

“Like prison cells, it is designed like that to allow prison guards to check what the detainee is doing even while he is taking a bath or using the toilet,” he said.

“Those who will occupy those cells will be literally like birds inside a cage because they’re surrounded by steel bars,” he added.

He said the HSS had also ordered policemen assigned at the detention facility to vacate their barracks located near the building.

“The painting job has been completed. The lighting fixtures of Building A have also been replaced,” the source said in an interview.

It was possible, he said, that the building was being prepared for Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Jinggoy Estrada in case the Sandiganbayan order their arrest.

The three had been identified by witnesses and documents as among the lawmakers who made available their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocations to nongovernment organizations of alleged pork barrel scam operator Janet Lim Napoles.

“We were told that the building was being renovated for the senators and congressmen who may be arrested because of the pork barrel scam issue,” he said.

MANILA, Philippines â€" Ready for occupancy.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready to welcome the newest batch of VIP jailbirds to its prison complex at Camp Crame after completing the renovation of a detention bungalow intended for lawmakers facing plunder charges in connection with the P10-billion pork barrel racket.

A police official, who agreed to talk with the Philippine Daily Inquirer on condition of anonymity, said on Monday that workers hired by the Headquarters Support Service (HSS) finished the construction at Building A of the PNP Custodial Center last week.
