Of course, there is no place like home.

With the influx of foreign students in the country, I will not be surprised if in the future our graduates will have nowhere to find employment.  Year after year, we are producing diploma mills; where our graduates are forced to work in labor or if not domestic help in foreign lands. Time comes this will not even available because they will be hiring their own. Typical example is the hiring of nurses in the US.

In one of my visits to Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam in the 90’s, I asked an official of the Ministry of Agriculture what made them top producer of rice in Asia, where, at that time we were heavily importing rice from Vietnam. He told me, “They are sending their scientists and technocrats to study and train in the Philippines and applied what they learned in their country."

The answer slapped me.

So very true, Ate Belle. So very true, i agree with you 110%.

It was hard for me recently because I had to pay off a bill that I had since college. It took almost 2 years but I paid off my credit card bills. One thing I learned the hard way is that..it really is best to buy with cash. One is tempted to buy via credit, but in the end, what we bought for $200 via credit becomes $300 because of surcharges and extra fees. I am now very wary in purchasing things through credit.

If I don't have the capital in my debit card or in cash, then i won't buy it jud. I learned this the lard way. And sometimes, its via the hard way that one learns best!

I only use credit card  when I go home, mas convenient man god siya dalhon kay isuk-sok lang nako sa akong bra pag naa ko sa Manila, magdala lang ko og gamay nga cash.

But when I come back sa US bayaran gyud dayon nako kay sayang ang interest, bugas na kana sa mga alipores nako didto.

Lim Commits to take Full Advantage of Mandate

(Source: http://www.boholtimesonline.com/2010-lim-commits-to-take-full-advantage-of-mandate.html)

Tagbilaran City Mayor Dan Lim yesterday made a commitment to take full advantage of the overwhelming mandate given to him by the city constituents.
“You have my word that I will work hard to surpass my previous performance because this is my way of expressing appreciation for the trust you have given me,” he declared.
The mayor recalled that when he first won as mayor in 2004, it was probably out of pity for his six successive electoral defeats.
Lim noted that he worked hard to implement his pro-people programs particularly the support for education which included free school uniforms, school bags and school supplies for all elementary public school pupils.
In addition, he also proved his concern for senior citizens initially by paying tribute to them on their birthdays and providing for their health requirements including free maintenance medicines.
The mayor also introduced free hospitalization services through the Blue Card which was all it took for a beneficiary to receive prompt and free medical attention at accredited hospitals.
“When you gave me my second term, it was more than just giving me something for my epitaph,” he said with a laugh.
Lim said that his 2007 win was made sweeter because he won it over his long-time nemesis, ex-Mayor Jose Torralba by a margin of more than 4,000.
Since it was the biggest margin then in the city’s history, Lim said it more than made up for all his losses at the hands of Torralba including the 1998 elections which he won on appeal at the Supreme Court but which became moot and academic because the decision came out only months before the 2001 election.
Lim said his victory last May 10, however, was more meaningful because it came in the face of a concerted and vicious campaign waged against him by the most powerful media organization in Bohol.
In spite of this, the mayor handily won his match-up with Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso.
Lim overwhelmed Veloso’s accumulated votes by a wide margin of 8,335.
The mayor said he is humbled by the trust and confidence given to him by the majority of the people of Tagbilaran.
“I will work harder than ever because I want to express my gratitude for the city that gave me this privilege to prove my worth,” he added.
Lim said that the last three years had exacted a heavy toll not only on him but also on the city in terms of programs and projects that were frustrated not because they were not good but because his opponents did not want him to succeed.
The mayor is confident that things will change for the better in the next three years because of the change of administration.
“We are confident that there will be no more harassments and persecutions like those in the previous administration,” he added.
Lim said the people deserve better service than the ones his opponents would like them to have.

Mao bitaw. If one elects to interact with other human beings, one should be circumspect in the needful duty of assuming a role, otherwise one finds oneself at the receiving end of the unforgiving judgment of one's superiors.

............. And defeats the mere definition of communication of which to me is very unhealthy owing to the fact that we live in a world where freedom to speak and express our opinions are guaranteed (well at least in writing).

Participants of forums, debates, discussions and all other format for interactions become less informed in some areas, and should at all times respect and if not recognized their own limintations. I learned in life that ignorance is better than pretentions.  When you are ignorant on the subject you can ask or do research, while pretenting to be knowledgeable is a crime to yourself.

My little tribute to all the fathers out there on Father's Day... sung early today (Saturday, 5PM Central)

Father's Day 2010 - Tribute To Fathers

UNANSWERED PRAYERS

Written by J. Roel Lungay and Romeo C. Mascariñas

1
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night
Thought of things that meant so much
For me and my wife -
Children, school and house, livelihood and life
I can’t stop thanking God for these
Unanswered prayers.

2
When I was young my dreams were
Diff’rent from what I have now
I took a lot for granted, never cared so much
Dreaming far away, I could never stay
But now I’m thankful, God,
For these unanswered prayers.

REFRAIN:
[You/they] are the answer to my unanswered prayers
I swear to God [you/they] are my unanswered prayers
I may not have known
Coz I was so young and alone
But now I realize you are the answer
To my very prayers.

3
Funny but it seems like God had made plans all along
Took a lot of twists and turns, had to let go of my own
Funny it may seem, you know, how lucky have I been
Now I have you all beside me, my unanswered prayers.

BRIDGE:
God, I can’t thank enough, You're Lord of my life
Coz I owe You so much, I fall down on my knees
I couldn’t bear the thought of it
Had You answered all my dreams
I wouldn’t have my wife and kids
Your very answer to my unanswered prayers.

(Interlude)

(Repeat Refrain except last 2 lines)

CODA:
But now I realize you are the answer
To my very prayers.

Naay daghang walay common sense. To make matters worse, naay walay sense of their limitations. Or if they do have, they are too dumb to see their place in the hierarchy of intellectual giftedness such that they remain immovably smug in their self-delusion.
You said it all. Sometimes, I wonder how a spouse survives living with a dumb person. To me intellect is very important. In my entire lifetime, I met lots of people the so called "know it all" type, and what is bad about it, they are not even aware that people around them  despised their ideas to the point of calling them idiot.

The Vain Jackdaw

Jupiter announced that he intended to appoint a king over the birds, and named a day on which they were to appear before his throne, when he would select the most beautiful of them all to be their ruler. Wishing to look their best on the occasion they repaired to the banks of a stream, where they busied themselves in washing and preening their feathers. The Jackdaw was there along with the rest, and realized that, with his ugly plumage, he would have no chance of being chosen as he was: so he waited till they were all gone, and then picked up the most gaudy of the feathers they had dropped, and fastened them about his own body, with the result that he looked gayer than any of them. When the appointed day came, the birds assembled before Jupiter's throne. After passing them in review, he was about to make the Jackdaw king, when all the rest set upon the king-select, stripped him of his borrowed plumes, and exposed him for the Jackdaw that he was.

Moral lessons:

"It is not only fine feathers that make fine birds."

"Pretenders will be exposed in the end."

Very Nice

A Poem for All Dad
( I want to post a pic but I am not successful with that yet)

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,

He called it ... Dad

I'd say it has its advantages, though...

Of course there are no "BS" on week-end since Bosses are out. You can save money by not going to the mall or some places that are week-enders.

I agree. It can be said that the style understands the human form. And human aesthetics, for that matter.
True, and as a matter of fact I am a repeat customer. There was a time I bought this online because I cant find it in the local store.

Ikaw gamhanan
Ngano man intawon misugot ka nga yatakyatakan.

the river is the best in the Philippines!

Ecologically, I like it. My Loboc adventure was really sweet.

My trip to Pagsanjan Falls, OMG the rivers full of rapids, rocks and all kinds of natural barriers. I feel sorry for the boat operators, they have to manually operate the boat.

I am looking forward the one in Abatan now. Three years ago, my uncle took me for a ride along the Abatan River all the way upstreams, it is also very beautiful.

Na-miss nako kadtong 501 nga Levis' sa Philippines. Wala pa gihapon mikupas ang Levis' kaya lang daghan kaayog peke labi na gyud sa Divisoria.

Here is a clip from forbes.com

The most expensive jeans fall into the category of custom made or vintage. Levi Strauss & Co. spent $46,532 buying a pair of its own jeans on an eBay (nasdaq: EBAY - news - people ) auction in May 2001. The jeans were found in a Nevada mining town and date back to the 1880s. The company has no plans to resell them, because Levi's says they are priceless and one of a kind. For that reason, these and other "vintage" jeans were left off our list.

WOW!
