Bitaw, kidding aside, ngana mana basta muadto kag isla... like Cabilao. No big deal. Ila kang alsahon aron di mabasa. Labi na kung way pantalan ang lugar. Kung tibuok platoon, company o battalion ilang arsahon... kuwang pa! Siyempre, si General lang. They do the same for Governor, Congressman, Mayor, Padre Kura, etc. So don't lose sleep or spend your emotions on pic like this kay ikaw ray alkanse. Kadtong nag expose ani sa newspaper article, gasige ron ug bahakhak, doing what he/she does best... create issues for rating! And you? Us? They dragged us into their world... libak, panira, rush judgment, anger, resentment, finger-pointing, etc.

I'm more into slow, jazzy songs and i think the lyrics are not fit for jazz or mellow tunes. You can turn them into something fun. visit http://vidayt.multiply.com. thanks!

Nothing new, but a repost of My Tagbilaran City using the sung-poem instead of the instrumetal...

New Version: "My Tagbilaran City" by Romeo Mascariñas

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxk-Z-vHA8Q

Old Version: "In The Passage Of Time" by Mark Sloniker

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5GMZosNmcw

Gigam-an jog kanta aron mas mohaum hehehe...

MY TAGBILARAN CITY

It feels like a dream
A quiet I couldnt quite figure out just yet
A moment of silence that is
On a journey I know not the direction.

Peoples and machines moving thoughtlessly
In all direction -
No visible footsteps nor clear faces -
Nothing seems to make sense
Much like waking up at dawn for no reason at all.

The serenity just drowns on top of silence -
Silence incensed with movements -
I wonder if the gods have something to do with all these
Quite precious it seems I'm almost like sleepwalking.

This I conclude, I must be awake!
I must be home!
I must be where I need to be!
And want to be!
Where I dreamt to be...
And love to be...
Not sleeping but awake!
The City of Friendship,
My Tagbilaran City!

I love Tagbilaran but I still don't think it's a better place to put another big school or something. I've learned to think BIG and if we want to get big and prosperous we need to have an expanded mentality. The city is rather small in comparison to many a big cities. There's no more room to grow but to think "outside the box." International airport, golf course, mega malls, etc - they should all be erected somewhere other than at the heart of the city if Tagbilaran is to compete with other mega cities. (in fairness pod, my cuzin used to remind us: contest ba diay ni nga dili man hehehe). In fact, I'm personally against the international airport being planned in Panglao. I don't care if they say otherwise, but it will mess up the "sea life" (corals and all) when those big planes keep reverberating their big and noisy engines and, simbako, one crash would do 'em in (and probably all of us) being so close to it. When you get to visit major cities in the world, airports maybe named after that city but you hardly see one erected in that city itself, but in the suburbs or someplace else but bearing still the name of that major city.

It's also a fact, tourists from far-flung countries go to Bohol or tropics not for the excitement of a big city (like what they have back home) but to have a little peace and relaxation and for some appreciation of nature (not man-made structures that are already abundant from where they came). Sus no? Unya dia pa jud ning atong pakatok nga mag establish ug state university sulod gayod sa syudad? Well, if you think "parochial" that's what you're coming up with. It only shows who we are and our resistance to the "real" progress because we do think "small."

This event will negate to the  efforts by all sector in promoting Panglao as a tourist haven, now that the first blood has been drawn, just hope that there will be none anymore but the natural tendency of "vengeance" is not a distant possibility. A sad episode to all Panglaonons and of Bohol.

I don't believe it will totally negate all the efforts that had been done over the years but it sure does affect much like any other crime or mischievousness. The hard work goes on and hope to slowly eliminate anything that would make Bohol and Panglao less desirable than it is right now.

This word "Tanday or Tambid" morag di gani ma translate sa German language,  Father. They will say it - "Kuscheln" - to cuddle with (magdulog or magtandayay)

Ajo pa tong sulti ni Koddi nga "tanduay" kay di na kinahanglag e translate, lagokon o bahugon na lang dretso, and it doesn't lose it's good taste, not a bit, bisag asa pang dapita sa kalibutan. Bwahaha
#11930
"Tanday" o bisan pang unsa nga pinulungang bisaya dili jud mo haum/untop sa pinulongang english maski aduna pa kini'y direct translation. Simple as that. Kumbaga lain jud ang "dating"... for the sole reason nga "foreign" (dili lumad) language kini para kanato. Hasta atong "sense of humor" (pakiat) kung e translate, mo us-os gajud ang pagka interesting niani. Unsa na kaha kung e translate pa kini sa German, Frances or Espanyol, samot na siguro? So ato na lang paga dawaton ning kamatuoran-a nga di jud ika-tumbas, hehehe! IOW, the best language nga mopahiluna sa atong "psche" mao gayod tong atong kaugalingong pinulungan... sama sa "the best food is mom's cooking" ug "the best soap opera" there is, para sa mga Pinoy, mao katong pina hilak-hilak (bwahehehe) kay mao gajoy nay ganahaan ug naandan nato sukad pa sa una. We grew up with it and we were molded by them, in a way! Gawas kung di hinan-awog sine hahahaha!
#11931
As they said "education is of utmost importance," no matter what your lot in life, nakahuman ba kag korso o wa. And I do believe, too, in the slogan, "Reading is what makes a nation great." But my cuzin would like to add to that, too, "Retention of what you read makes it even better hahaha." Kay mag-unsa man pod kung daghan kang nabasa unya paluston lang pod sa pikas dunggan. Ako blema nuon is hingkalimtanon na jud nuon ko, kining nagka edaran ta ug daghan napong gibating di masabtan hahaha. So what I do is constant "repitition" syarog di ka motarok sa panumduman!!! Mao bitaw nang uban anad kaajo mokanta kay way undang balik2x kanta hangtod ma second nature na ang gi kanta o gibasa.

Suggestion, maghimo tag gamay'ng "library" sa atong kalibangan coz it's one of the best place and time to read... pwede pa managhoy!
#11932

Mao sad cguro sa laing bahin, galalis cguro pod sila sa ilang TB (Tubag Budapest o Tubag Bahrain ) kung angayan ba himoong national hero si so and so and kung nailhan ba sa laing dapit ilang national hero, bwahaha!
#11933
Natural man sad nang ma alarm ang faculty and in fact mga stakeholders... it's a possible disruption of the status quo (maski discussion level pa). A decision like that is usually a business decision but that doesn't mean they're right. It sure is a neglect of the student's welfare or future. Basin ang theory nga: daghang project, daghang kupit. Maybe CVSCAFT has been stagnant for quite sometime, kinahanglan napog pakulo o gimmick (just a thought).
#11934
Mark my word... it will never happen (CVSCAFT moving to Tagbilaran) except the CVSCAFT (former BSAT) that's already in the city which is not a big campus in relation to the big ones. It's all wishful thinking that perhaps made it to the discussion room. Bisan unsaog lalang ang Tagbilaran is not ideal for a big school anymore that what it has now (how many?). Too cluttered and over populated. Mosango na sa provincial government as well as the city. Gawas kong mo "tong" ug dinagko (LoL). UB bitaw decided to go for Panglao. That's my strong opinion on that and I'll stand by it. Hahaha!

Bad thing in Spain nobody knows Rizal or his writtings or his demandings to the kingdom while he was in Spain.

Not totally true. I believe Rizal has been recognized in Spain, even a town in Germany does, although people nowadays are indifferent toward heroes or history in general. Of course, we don't talk much about them anymore after all these years but that doesn't mean they never knew him. Maybe it's us who don't know much what people in that particular place/country know or what their history book has been saying all along. Maybe we need to read more or do some more research... but that's out of the question. A little more immersion maybe....

Ako bitaw karon pa kakita ani. Pero nakakita nako sa ubang opus ni Tiya Nene hilabina kadtong sa mga reception rooms sa mga hotels sa Panglao coz she's considered the best in Bohol. Maski iyang mga klasmeyts sa UP kaniadto, National Artists Napoleon Abueva, Jose Joya admitted she was one of the best in their class pero unsaon nagminyo man ug nahimong nanay intawon and having to take care of 10 children sa balay na lang nagkalingaw ug painting2x. Finally she got her recognition when UST published a book about her life and paintings, written by a Maribojocanon, Marjorie Evasco.

Mao sad akong take ani, kita rapoy magsige'g ingon mga taga Bohol "ija-ija, aho-aho." Nothing's farther than the truth than this one. On the contrary I see Bol-anons as one of the most united (considering the overall culture of the Filipinos) group of people  coming from the Philippines. Or maybe the world pa. I'll take anyone on this, maski Bol-anon pa!!!! Dare?!!

I'm leaning to this, too... kay mga tagawog hilig man sab sila ug sabaw pero inaslom pod ilaha (sinigang); labi na mga taga Central Luzon, kay na assigned baya pod ko didto for a while. Hilabi sinigang hipon, aguuuy!!! Kabaw (dili atong kabaw ha) pod sila mag bahog-bahog and they believe, too, nga hilig og ilado sila sa pagka hinabaw, maski sila ray nakahibaw, hahaha! Morag ngana pod ato sitwasyon, kita ray nahibaw ug gasige'g ingon "hinabaw jod ning mga taga Bohol."

Addendum: A little clarification. Or maybe I need one. I thought 1986 was People's Power? Then let it be... it was the people's power... not Ramos', not Enrile's, not Cory's, not Cardinal Sin's, not Honasan's, not any one's.
#11970
Is it possible that Cory was being used as a pawn by those who wanted change, both in political circles as well as those who had been suffering long from the Marcos regime, including the long-protesting street  Parliamentarists and not to mention the brain behind all of it, the US? And Cory succumbed to the wishes of them all and was forced to walk a path she never wanted, nor dreamed of, in the first place? Was she ever ready for the position of Head of State that was thrusted on her lap? Did she had vision for the country before? I'm not saying she wasn't a good person. She was indeed a good mother figure for the country, yes... but, hmmm, personally... this is where it all ends! You have to tell me what she had done. I did hear about the mahjong sessions at Malacanang where she signed some of the important administrative matters (it's purely hearsay, of course). At least she bore KA who made GKB famous and enjoyed by many all over the globe. The bad, I couldn't take pictures of Hacienda Luisita in 2004 coz the guard told me it was a private property and I was actually on the outside looking inside, huh! They should have covered the whole place with "TRAPAL" aron di makita sa gawas. But then you can take pic of Malacanang where the President of a country lives ;D

Maybe this is the thread I could put this on. Got this today from the email networks:

Subject: A DAY WITHOUT PINOYS!!!!

A day without Filipinos :

Let's imagine then, not just California, but the entire world, waking up
one day to discover Filipinos have disappeared. I'm talking here about the
six or seven million Filipinos currently working overseas in countries with
names that run the entire alphabet, from Angola to Zimbabwe.
Let's not worry first about why or how the Filipinos disappeared; in fact,
it becomes academic whether it's a day or a week. Just imagine a world
without Filipinos.

Think of the homes that are dependent on Filipino housekeepers, nannies,
caregivers. The homes would be chaotic as kids cry out for their nannies.
Hong Kong and Singaporean and Taiwanese yuppie couples are now forced to
stay home and realizing, goodness, there's so much of housework that has to
be handled and how demanding their kids can be and hey, what's this strange
language they're babbling in?

It's not just the children that are affected. The problems are even more
serious with the elderly in homes and nursing institutions, because
Filipino caregivers have provided so much of the critical services they
need. When temporary contractual workers are brought in from among
non-Filipinos, the elderly complain.. They want their Filipino caregivers
back because they have that special touch, that extra patience and
willingness to stay an hour more when needed.

Hospitals, too, are adversely affected because so many of the disappeared
Filipinos were physicians, nurses and other health professionals. All
appointments for rehabilitation services, from children with speech
problems to stroke survivors, are indefinitely postponed because of
disappeared speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists! .
Eventually, the hospital administrators announce they won't take in any
more patients unless the conditions are serious. Patients are told to
follow their doctors' written orders and, if they have questions, to seek
advice on several Internet medical sites. But within two days, the hospitals
are swamped with new complaints. The websites aren't working because
of missing Filipino web designers and website managers.

Service establishments throughout the world - restaurants, supermarkets,
hotels - all close down because of their missing key staff involved in
management and maintenance. In Asia, hotels complain about the missing
bands and singers.

In the United States, many commercial establishments have to close shop,
not just because of the missing Filipino sales staff but because their
suppliers have all been sending in notices about delays in shipments.  Yup,
the shipping industry has gone into a crisis because of missing Filipino
seafarers.

The shipping firms begin to look into the emergency recruitment of
non-Filipino seafarers but then declare another crisis: They're running out
of supplies of oil for their ships because the Middle Eastern countries
have come to a standstill without their Filipino workers, including quite a
few working for the oil industry.

Frantic presidents and prime ministers call on the United Nations to
convene a special session of the Security Council but Kofi Annan says he
can't do that because the UN system itself is on the edge, with so many of
their secretarial and clerical staff, as well as translators, having
disappeared from their main headquarters in New York and Geneva, as well as
their regional offices throughout the world. Quite a number of UN services,
especially refugee camps, are also in danger of closing down because of
missing Filipino health professionals and teachers.

Annan also explains that he can't convene UN meetings because the airports
in New York, Washington and other major US cities have been shut down.  The
reason? The disappeared Filipinos included quite a few airport security
personnel who used to check passengers and their baggage.

Annan calls on the World Bank and international private foundations for
assistance but they're crippled, too, because their Filipino consultants
and staff are nowhere to be seen. Funds can't be remitted and projects
can't run without the technical assistance provided for by Filipinos.

An exasperated Annan calls on religious leaders to pray, and pray hard.
But when he phones the Pope, he is told the Catholic Church, too, is in
crisis because the disappeared include the many Filipino priests and nuns
in Rome who help run day-to-day activities, as well as missionaries in the
frontlines of remote posts, often the only ones providing basic social
services.

As they converse, Annan and the Pope agree on one thing: the world has
become a quieter place since the Filipinos disappeared. It isn't just the
silencing of work and office equipment formerly handled by Filipinos; no,
it seems there's much less laughter now that the Filipinos aren't around,
both the laughter of the Filipinos and those they served.

I know, I know, I'm exaggerating the contributions of Filipinos to the
world but I'm doing what the producers of "A Day Without Mexicans" had in
mind: using a bit of hyperbole to shake people up.

As their blurb for the film goes: "How do you make the invisible, visible?
Make them invisible."

As I wrote this column, I did realize I was doing this not so much for the
Hong Kong Chinese and Taiwanese and Singaporeans and Americans who don't
appreciate us enough, than for us, who as Filipinos, are pretty good at
putting ourselves down, at making ourselves invisible.

Damgo Man Lang is one of my favorite Cebu Pop Musicfest winners. Originally performed by Albur's Arthur Ungab, it has become part of the repertoire of Filipino choirs in their performances abroad (naa ni sa youtube). Si Fr. Eutiquio Solis man tingali ang nag compose ani. My friend Jun Amora wrote the lyrics.

Kung ni Msgr. Rudy Villanueva (Ex-Chairman Cebu Pop Fest Board) pa, "grabe ning pagka komposa ni TQ, wa joy makadungog ani nga di makaihig colgate." Hehehe. This is no hearsay; it's a fact that he said it. In fact, Villanueva, even if he was part of the Music Fest (conflict of interest), did the arrangement himself sa maong awit nga gikanta ni Arthur Ungab... mao nga nireklamo tawon ang uban kay it has an appearance of pabor-pabor kuno.  He co-wrote this song with then seminarian, Atty. Antonio "Junmorj" Amora, Jr. (in law sa mga Dejaresco)

The version previous to this reply is sung by Fr. Edick Monreal and arranged by Fr. Arnold Zamora nga gikanta ug record sa SPOT (Singing Priest of Tagbilaran) in 1998.

So, mao pod ni akong ikatampo sa inyong DAMGO thread which I enjoyed reading very much. Salamat sa inyong mabulokong mga paghinuklog kabahin niini.

DAMGO MAN LANG

Words by Antonio Amora, Jr.

Music by TQ Solis, Jr.

Performed by Fr. Melchisedech Monreal

Arranged by Fr. Arnold Zamora

1
Damgo man lang
Gihikaw sa nagmata
Damgo man lang ug di tinuod
Nakita ko sa akong pagkatulog
Panagway mong matahum
Ug mapahiyumon.

2
Gilipay mo ang dughan kong nagsubo
Gidawat mo ang akong gugma
Sa akong pagmata sa sayong kabuntagon
Nahanaw lang ang tanan kay damgo man lamang.

Refrain:
Unsa bay lain kong mahimo
Niining gibati ko?
Kay dili mo man tuhuan
Ang mga pulong niining dughan.

3
Damgo man lang lumalabay ang tanan
Damgo na lang maoy kadangpan
Ang gugma ko kawang lang
Kun dili mo kaloy-an
Matuman man apan sa damgo ko lang.

Coda:
Ki'ng gugma ko kawang lang
Kun dili mo kaloy-an
Matuman man apan sa damgo ko lang.

My little take on Sandugo Festival: kung ma sustain nila ni for many years, let's say 200 years from now, ila na kana tawgon ug TRADITION (sama sa New Orelans Mardi Gras which started around 1872). Like everythign else, ginama ra jod hinoon nag tawo, to commemorate something associated with a place. Deri sa akong nahimutangan we have hundreds of festival and fairs, halos kada parokya (simbahan), lungsod or syudad... all about fundraising. Secondly, tungod kay na establisado na (calendared na sa state), nahimo sad ning mga events nga pwede bisitahog mga turista if they happen to be around during those schedules festivities. Pero, people here don't make a big deal out of them. Kung ganahan sila motambong, motambong sila (Americans love the outdoors and they love to get out maski lami na silag pagkaon sa ilang bay haha). Locals love to spend (concessions at football, NBA, baseball, etc). Kung di pod ganahan, they stay home doing BBQ or what-have-you. Festivities are not supposed to be competitive; iyahay lang god paningkamot nga makapundo sila for whatever purpose why they have their festivals.

Nan karon, kay ang Sandugo sa Bohol man ug pobre pod ta nga pagka lugar... maajo na lang naka huna2x silag aktibidades sama sa ilang gipangbuhat karon. Maski ubang lungsod are coming up with their little gimmicks (EAT DANAO, Katigbawan, etc) and not to mention our yearly fiestas (nga maoy gitawag natog TRADISYON). May be one mas establisado  ni sila tanan, or maybe dili. But for all I know (ako ra pod ni noh) naningskakay tawon pod ang atong mga kadagkuan/organizers nga mailhan ug nga tambungan sa daghang mga tawo. But of course, (Pinas style) we have to pay people (school and towns) para mo actively participate hehehe, kay tungod lagi puros ta mga pobre. Napugos nga mohatag ug incentive, otherwise di jud ma successful (same thing with election, kwartahay bah. Anything new?). While here in New Orleans, for example, the Krewes, nga moapil sa kasadya maoy mobayad ug FEE aron makaapil sa maong kalihokan (I know a lot of friends nga gusto mosakay sa Mardi Gras float, they pay around $1,000 per head para lang makaapil ug sakay, huh!) Hmmm... mao nay kalainan. But I can live with the kalainan kay unsaon man mao manay ato and that's our current economic situation. But I doubt if it attracts more tourists or not. Kadto ra sigurong naka timing nga naa sa Bohol anang panahona ang nakasud-ong. Taasa na oy, undang nako.

For a big province (10th largest island in the Philippines), 9 contingents/participants in street dancing ay napakaliit (though we don't expect to be as huge like Sinulog in Cebu).

The thing is, people were not as participative and enthusiastic because on the impression about the people organizing the TBTK ( parang elitist kasi - please refer 2006 happenings ) This impression still prevail as reflected with what transpired (commotion) in the past 3 years - previous celebration.

Ang gitaan ug attention dili ang kalihokan as participated sa mga tawo but personalities from the USA, so unsa gud intawon bation sa mga taga atoa, din moingon nalang, sila sila na lang. ( am I right?)

Sandugo Festival has nothing to do with TBTK nor TBTK has to do with Sandugo. It's all wrong perception. Makalibog jud hinoon kay nakig-uban ang TBTK sa Sandugo, coz it's a very opportune occasion para pod makakita sila sa festivities samtang nag bakasyon sa Bohol. In fact, a lot of bakasyonista wa jud motambong anang mga aktibidad nga gipang mention... but when I was there, daghan jud storya, nga di ikatinga basta naa kas lugar na gamatit. Naa gani deri hahaha!

BTW, nakadungog ko nga ila ibalhin ang TBTK sa bulan sa Mayo or June aron di pasanginlan sa mga commotion hehehe

Byaheng Bohol and many other Boholano sounds are included in the album. They (mga batan-ong banda) were very nice enough to allow us to use their songs para sa album. Just finished uploading the whole album  sa SC site so everybody can hear:

Hehehe we're back in da music business. Diay among gikalingawan ug record2x didto sa Tagbilaran last summer, July 4 to be exact, samtang uban ninyo nag celebrate sa bag-o ninyong ID4  ;D This particular song started out as a poem by a 9-year old girl, Karolina Nogues, usa sa akong mga servers sa Mass deri sa New Orleans, unya naka huna-huna lang pod kog dugang ug refrain aron iyawat mamahimong usa  ka kompletong awit... para pod sa mga bata.

Red is for the blood He gave
Black is for the sins we made
White is for the light He gave.

Oh colours... oh so beautiful
You make my life so full
Oh colours, all my favorites
Make everything so sweet
Oh colours, you're so precious
You make my life complete.
