Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers.

Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you.

Let us not adopt any foregone conclusion -- into thinking that Almighty God would punish a man who fought hard for transparency in local government units. The death of the late Mr. Robredo was attributed to the failure of his aircraft, not Divine Punishment. Let us not give judgement as to the reason of his untimely death, but more so, accept the fact that all men are called to depart this life whenever the Will of the Most High deigns it to be his or her time to depart.

There have been a great many leaders who departed this earth at such a young age. An example was that of President Ramon Magsaysay, who fought for the preservation of the Republic against the Huk War, and sought to preserve Philippine Democracy from a Communist Rebellion.

Robredo was a good man, a man of faith, and an upright man. The reason for his siding with the RH Bill was because of his progressive view. His view regarding the RH Bill may be different to others who were anti-RH, but that does not negate the fact that this man had worked long and hard for the improvement of his local constituency and also to lead other LGUs throughout the country to adopt and enforce transparency and honorable leadership.

This man departed this world as a loyal servant of the people, a loving father, a loving husband. We commit his soul to a loving and merciful God, The Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the soul of Mr. Robredo justly and , with hope, mercy.

To be honest, what I would like the Philippine Navy to acquire within the next 10 years is a patrol submarine. The Scorpene Class Submarine would be perfect for the Navy. It's fast, sleek, and it can render death to any foreign navy ship that threatens Fleet-controlled waters.

Green,

I was actually very happy to hear that the Philippines is purchasing 2 of these large frigates. These frigates are larger than normal and are almost the size of the USN's ARLEIGH BURKE AEGIS Destroyers.

These Maestrale Class Anti-Submarine Frigates have a multifaceted platform in countering submarine threats, at the same time, has a powerful surface to air and ship to ship defense / offense battery platforms.

These 2 frigates carry a powerful punch and can even be considered Destroyers for the Philippine Navy.

among the claimants country in the west philippines, china is more focus on us

Understandably because the Chinese military command sees the Philippines as an American ally. By disrupting and challenging the territorial integrity of the Philippines, it indirectly affects American strategic calculus in the Western Pacific.

This is the pretext for increased American-Philippine military activities ; and the catalyst for the increased American military support for the Philippines.

For years the Philippine Armed Forces focused on internal issues in quashing muslim separatist rebellions and communist insurgencies and left its external defense capabilities at a minimum. By modernizing , the Armed Forces of the Republic of the Philippines is now able to establish a credible defense platform by which the Navy, Air Force and Army can collaborate to neutralize any external forces that will dare challenge the integrity of the territories of the Republic.

Never shall invaders trample our sacred shores...

Im glad that President Aquino is serious in modernizing the Armed Forces

We need more. The Philippines needs to purchase 10 more Hamilton classes , and hopefully 5 more Maestrale Classes.

It should be a national prerogative to modernize the Philippine Navy so that by 2020, the Combined Philippine Fleet will be the strongest naval power in South East Asia.

THE PRAYERS OF THE ROSARY

Sign of the Cross:
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Apostles' Creed:

Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead, on the third day he rose from the dead, ascended to the heavens, sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the remission of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life eternal. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer:

PATER NOSTER, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

OUR FATHER, who Art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

The Hail Mary:

AVE MARIA, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus. Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

HAIL MARY, full of grace, the Lord be with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen.

Glory Be:

GLORIA PATRI, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto. Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

GLORY BE TO THE FATHER, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. (Literally, "into the ages of the ages".)

Oratio Fatimae (The Fatima Prayer)

Domine Iesu, dimitte nobis debita nostra, salva nos ab igne inferiori, perduc in caelum omnes animas, praesertim eas, quae misericordiae tuae maxime indigent.

Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy.

Hail, Holy Queen:

SALVE REGINA, Mater misericordiae. O clemens, o pia, o dulcis Virgo Maria. Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genitrix. Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN, mother of mercy. Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we lift up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Oh clement, oh loving, oh sweet virgin Mary. Pray for us, Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promisses of Christ.

Meditation for Day 4

Dearest Holy Mother, you are generous with all who seek you, have mercy on me. I entrust into your hands this knot which robs the peace of my heart, paralyzes my soul and keeps me from going to my Lord and serving Him with my life.
Undo this knot in my love...., O mother, and ask Jesus to heal my paralytic faith which gets down hearted with the stones on the road. Along with you, dearest Mother, may I see these stones as friends. Not murmuring against them anymore but giving endless thanks for them, may I smile trustingly in your power.

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me.

Mary is the Sun and no one is deprived of her warmth

(Closing Prayer)

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exists in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exist in my life.
You know very well how desperate I am, my pain and how I am bound by these knots.
Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life.
No one, not even the Evil One himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone.
Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot...I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all, You are my hope.
O my Lady, you are the only consolation God gives me, the fortification of my feeble strength, the enrichment of my destitution and with Christ the freedom from my chains.
Hear my plea.
Keep me, guide me, protect me, o safe refuge!

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me

Philippine Started Negotiations for the Purchase of 2 Italian Navy Maestrale Class ASW Frigates

Philippine Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin announced that the country entered negotiations with the Italian government for the purchase of two Maestrale class Anti-Submarine frigates in a deal estimated at 11.7 billion Philippine pesos (280 Millions USD).

Eight vessels of this class are currently in service with the Italian Navy. The two Frigates to be transfered to the Philippine Navy are expected to be refurbished first, and likely see some of their systems and weapons upgrade or modernized.

The Maestrale class frigates primary task is Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), however their weapons and systems provides them with a high degree of flexibility which makes them capable warships in Anti-Surface (ASuW) and Anti-Air (AAW) warfare roles.

If the deal goes through, the two Frigates will be purchased as the solution to the Philippine Navy Deep Water Patrol Vessel and will significantly boost the Philippine Navy capabilities, especially in terms of Anti-Submarine Warfare.

The Philippines and China have been embroiled in a growing dispute over territorial claims in the South China Sea. The Philippines has launch an extensive modernization program for its Armed Forces as a consequence.

besides, they tend to continue acting.  so we have elected officials who suddenly have movies during election time (holding 2 jobs?) and others who have tv appearances in cooking lessons or comedy shows.  acting has been brought even to the august senate halls lately, as you may know.

You're right, Isles, actor-turned-politicians tend to star in movies while still in office. It's just plain preposterous because its a Conflict of Interest. An example would be Manny Pacquiao, who is currently a congressman , yet at the same time still boxes. It's a conflict of interest.

When Arnold was governor of California he was not allowed to act or star in movies while he assumed the position of Governor; it was a conflict of interest. After his tenure ended, then he joined the Hollywood bandwagon.

An example of how proper educational background in public policy and fiscal administration can help train a public servant was that of the late Secretary Jesse Robredo, who was the Director of the DILG [Department of Interior and Local Government]. Mr. Robredo, a community leader of Naga City and an effective administrator of the DILG, and was also the recipient of over 140 awards in good governance and the recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award of Government Service for his good governance. The late Mr. Robredo held a Master's degree in Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He also held a Master's in Business Administration from UP Dilliman.

This is an example of how educational training prepares a public servant for the analytical, operational, tactical, and strategic decisions one must be expected to make in regards to public policy. An understanding of governmental policies and the laws helps in the evasion of breaking the law.

PS. The late Mr. Robredo was an opponent of Jueteng policies. To the dismay of his uncle, former Gov Luis Robredo Villafuerte of Camarines Sur, who was a proponent of Jueteng policies.

The government is full of elected officials who are supposed to have knowledge of the law - lawyers kuno sila. But they are the very persons who brought us to this mess in the first place!

It is erroneous to placate a blanket judgment that all attorneys are corrupt. There are a plethora of trial lawyers in this country who are not corrupt. Just as how there are some incorruptible judges in this country. One example is our very own Judge Gabriel Ingles, the Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals. He is a former trial attorney and a former Dean of College of Law at San Carlos University. There are many others like him throughout the Republic who are not corrupt or fall into that erroneous assumption that all lawyers are corrupt.

#11247
Quote from: cardinal on August 20, 2012, 11:04:27 PM
And your point is . . . because they are actors and actresses they are not qualified? Knowledge in law? The government is full of elected officials who are supposed to have knowledge of the law - lawyers kuno sila. But they are the very persons who brought us to this mess in the first place! A person who wants to help his/her community by running for public office should not be ridiculed because he/she is an actor or an actress - specially if he/she wins. Ronald Reagan was "only" a former B movie actor and he proved to be one of the better US presidents of the second half of the twentieth century. Ferdinand Marcos was a bar topnotcher and you know what he did to us.

My point is that there should be some kind educational training prior to running for office. A thorough knowledge of the processes of the law and the workings of government will allow a politician to work responsibly with the power he or she received by public mandate. The instances of minute examples of exceptions to that particular rule does not negate the fact that knowledge and specific training is necessary for the proper dispensation of duties.

If one is suffering from a dilated coronary aneurysm, one would seek help from a Cardiothoracic Surgeon who has expertise in vascular surgery, which requires a minimum of 5 years general surgery surgical training, an additional 3 years of cardiothoracic surgery fellowship and additional 2 year fellowship in a supraspecialization in vascular cardiothoracic surgery. A patient with a dilated coronary aneurysm will receive treatment / care from the surgeon who is trained in cardiothoracic surgery, not from a dentist , or a podiatrist. Or should the patient with a vascular pathology consult the expertise of a pedicab driver?

The same context applies for the election of officials. One should be trained in the knowledge of the law and in the specifics of political science. A thorough knowledge of it is the basis for a proper understanding in the dispensation of duties as a politician.

The same way as how Medical Doctors require an understanding of Biology & Life Sciences in order to understand the complex processes of Medicine and its subspecialties. All Medical Doctors should demonstrate a solid proficiency of Biology, Anatomy & Physiology prior to acceptance into Medical School and in the practice of Medicine. The same should hold true for Politicians and the thorough understanding of political science, government policies, constitutional law, etc.

To reiterate Isles' point, Joseph Estrada was a prime example of how actors shouldn't join politics.

Sincerely,
Dr. Lorenzo Lucino

MASBATE CITY, Philippines (UPDATED) - The body of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has been located and retrieved Tuesday, August 21, ending nearly 3 days of intense search off the Masbate City coast after their plane crashed in the area Saturday, August 18.

He was 54.

"May malungkot tayong balita. At 7:25 this morning, yung volunteer divers natin nakita ang fuselage. May mga katawan sa loob pero di nila talaga maidentify. Nung nakalapit sila at about 7:45 am, may mga indications na isa doon sa mga katawan sa loob ng fuselage ay kay Sec Robredo. At that was at about 7:45 (am)," Transport Secretary Mar Roxas said in a press briefing shortly after 9 am Tuesday in Masbate City.

Matt Reed, a volunteer British technical diver, was the one who saw Robredo's body underwater, said Roxas.

President Benigno Aquino III, who is back in Manila, personally relayed the news to Robredo's widow Atty Leni Gerona-Robredo via a phone call at around 8:20 am, Roxas said.

Roxas said Robredo's body has been brought back to land already.

They are seeking the help of the Army and Police forensics in handling the late secretary's remains, he added.

The plane's fuselage was found 800m offshore, at a depth of 180ft, Roxas told reporters.

Meanwhile, the bodies of pilot Jesse Bahinting and co-pilot Kshitiz Chand are still being retrieved. The pilots are at the cockpit, which is at the far end of the wreck; Robredo, meanwhile, was at the cabin, so he was first recovered.

The operations have been switched now to search and retrieval, Roxas added.

Robredo, Bahinting, and Chand went missing after their Piper Seneca plane plunged into the waters off Masbate City, just a few hundred meters short of the Moises Espinosa Airport in the city.

A fourth passenger, Jun Abrasado, Robredo's aide-de-camp, survived the crash. He was rescued by local fishermen moments after the crash.

The plane, coming from Cebu's Mactan International Airport, was on its way to Naga City when it encountered engine trouble.

The plane was attempting an emergency landing when it crashed into the waters of Masbate Pass, between Masbate and Ticao islands.

The DILG chief was on his way home to Naga for the long weekend.

Visionary

Jesse Manalastas Robredo was known as a visionary for his non-traditional approach in government. He is credited with transforming Naga City and reenergizing the government there.

In 1988, he won the election for mayor of Naga and became the youngest Philippine city mayor at the age of 29. Robredo went on to serve a total of 18 years as local chief executive.

Under his watch the city was recognized for the transparency of its government.

Robredo, a member of the Liberal Party, was the awarded the 2000 Ramon Magsaysay Award which honors those who are a shining example of integrity and idealism in government.

He is survived by his wife Leni and their daughters Aika, 24; Patricia, 18; and Jillian, 12. - Rappler.com

Jokes and Humor / The Three Ph.Ds and the Three M.Ds
August 21, 2012, 06:09:15 AM
Three PhDs and three MDs are going to a conference and must travel by train to get there. At the station, the three MDs buy their three tickets and watch as the three PhDs buy only a single ticket. "How are three people going to travel on only one ticket?" says one MD. "Just watch and you'll see," answers a PhD.
They all board the train and the MDs take their seats and watch as all three PhDs cram into a restroom and close the door behind them. The train departs and shortly afterward, the conductor comes around collecting tickets. He knocks on the restroom door and says "Ticket,
please." The door opens just a crack and a single arm emerges with a ticket in hand. The conductor takes it and moves on.
The MDs see all this and agreed it is quite a clever idea. So after the conference, the MDs decide to copy the PhDs on the return trip and save some money (managed care and all that). When they get to the station, they buy a single ticket for the return trip. But to their astonishment, the PhDs don't buy a ticket at all.

"How are you going to travel without a single ticket?" says one MD. "Just watch and you'll see," answers a PhD.
They board the train. The three MDs cram into a restroom compartment and the three PhDs cram into an another one nearby. The train departs. Shortly afterward, one of the PhDs leaves his restroom, walks over to the MDs stall, knocks on the door and says, "Ticket, please".

Most probably the body of the passengers are still inside the airplane. May God be merciful on their souls...

Good thread, Isles. For those who are pursuing their Bachelor's, Master's , and Doctoral degrees, it is important to make sure to cite any references in their papers. Always protect yourself when regarding academic writing by citing frequently and citing appropriately.

One can use the APA or MLA format for citation. I prefer to use the APA format. :)

Catechism of the One, Holy, Roman Catholic Church

Article 12: Belief in Life Everlasting

1020 The Christian who unites his own death to that of Jesus views it as a step towards him and an entrance into everlasting life. When the Church for the last time speaks Christ's words of pardon and absolution over the dying Christian, seals him for the last time with a strengthening anointing, and gives him Christ in viaticum as nourishment for the journey, she speaks with gentle assurance:

Go forth, Christian soul, from this world
in the name of God the almighty Father,
who created you,
in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God,
who suffered for you,
in the name of the Holy Spirit,
who was poured out upon you.
Go forth, faithful Christian!
May you live in peace this day,
may your home be with God in Zion,
with Mary, the virgin Mother of God,
with Joseph, and all the angels and saints. . . .

May you return to [your Creator]
who formed you from the dust of the earth.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints
come to meet you as you go forth from this life. . . .
May you see your Redeemer face to face. 591

1021 Death puts an end to human life as the time open to either accepting or rejecting the divine grace manifested in Christ.592 The New Testament speaks of judgment primarily in its aspect of the final encounter with Christ in his second coming, but also repeatedly affirms that each will be rewarded immediately after death in accordance with his works and faith. The parable of the poor man Lazarus and the words of Christ on the cross to the good thief, as well as other New Testament texts speak of a final destiny of the soul--a destiny which can be different for some and for others.593

1022 Each man receives his eternal retribution in his immortal soul at the very moment of his death, in a particular judgment that refers his life to Christ: either entrance into the blessedness of heaven-through a purification594 or immediately,595 -- or immediate and everlasting damnation.596

At the evening of life, we shall be judged on our love.597

Meditation for Day 3

Meditating Mother, Queen of heaven, in whose hands the treasures of the King are found, turn your merciful eyes upon me today. I entrust into your holy hands this knot in my life...and all the rancor and resentment it has caused in me. I ask Your forgiveness, God the Father, for my sin. Help me now to forgive all the persons who consciously or unconsciously provoked this knot. Give me, also, the grace to forgive me for having provoked this knot. Only in this way can You undo it. Before You, dearest Mother, and in the name of Your Son Jesus, my Savior, who has suffered so many offenses, having been granted forgiveness, I now forgive these persons...and myself, forever. Thank you, Mary, Undoer of Knots for undoing the knot of rancor in my heart and the knot which I now present to you. Amen.

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me.

Turn to Mary, you who desire grace.

Amen.

"Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it at all."
-Mark 10: 15
#11283
13. When you have finished praying through the hurts you have suffered, pray this prayer of faith: "Lord Jesus, by faith, I receive Your unconditional love and acceptance in the place of this hurt, and I trust You to meet all my needs, I take authority over the Enemy, and in the name of Jesus, I take back the ground I have allowed Satan to gain in my life because of my attitude toward _____________. Right now I give this ground back to the Lord Jesus Christ to whom it rightfully belongs."
#11284
12. Pray. This is a suggested prayer to pray as you "talk" to each person: Because I am forgiven and accepted by Christ, I can now forgive and accept you, _____________, unconditionally in Christ. I choose now to forgive you, _____________, no matter what you did to me. I release you from the hurts (take time to name the hurts), and you are no longer accountable to me for them. You are free.
#11285
11. Thank the Lord for using each person as a tool in your life to deepen your insight into His grace and conforming you to the image of His Son.
#11286
10. If the person is still a part of your life, now is a good time to accept the individual without wanting to change aspects of their personality or behavior.
#11287
9. Release the person from the debt you feel is owed you for the offense. Say, "You are free and forgiven."
#11288
8. Choose by an act of your will to forgive that person once and for all time. You may not feel like being forgiving. That's all right. Just do it and the feelings will follow. God will take care of that. Do not doubt what you have done is real and valid.
#11289
7. Imagine that the first person on your list is sitting in the other chair. Disclose everything you can remember that the person has done to hurt you. Do not hold back the tears or the emotions that accompany the confessions.
#11290
6. Take two chairs and arrange them facing each other. Seat yourself in one of the chairs.
#11291
5. Make a list of everything the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, even if it seems trivial to you. (Do not rush through this step: allow the Holy Spirit all the time He needs to speak to you.)
#11292
4. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to bring to your mind all the people you need to forgive and the events you need to forgive them for.
#11293
3. Select a time and place when you can be alone for a season of time.
#11294
2. Understand that it is often unwise to forgive face to face. This tends to make the other person feel "put down" and make you look holier-than-thou.
#11295
1. Understand that forgiveness is not: Justifying, understanding, or explaining why the person acted toward you as he or she did. Just forgetting about the offense and trusting time to take care of it. Asking God to forgive the person who hurt you. Asking God to forgive you for being angry or resentful against the person who offended you. Denying that you were really hurt; after all there are others who have suffered more.
#11296
