Kini si Grace, bisan sa telephone pa lang, you will immediately know nga buotan ning bayhana. She's one of the sweetest girls in Tubag Bohol that you will ever know. She bakes cakes and cookies for everyone. And for the first time of my life I saw a virtual cake. I think it was Mari's birthday.

Thank you, Mike, for the kind words.  And again, thank you for having created this virtual home called Tubag Bohol for all of us to virtually dwell in and give us cure for a heart that is missing our dear Bohol.

I have come to know very good and deep friends through Tubag Bohol.  Friends who stuck with me through tears and laughter!  Friends who believed in me.  Friends they will be until the end time.

May God continue to bless this home, Tubag Bohol, and the whole Tubag Bohol Family!

haha, well I'll be finished with finals tomorrow. But from Tuesday all the way till Friday is Senior's Week. There are events going around campus only for graduating seniors, 'te, like a pig roast, formal dance in Erie, some parties, and of course! The annual Traditional Burning of the Senior Composition. All of us seniors get to burn a copy of our research papers.
Graduation is on the 11th, pero I need to move things out of my apartment. And so does my sister, kai she's staying here pood for senior's week. :P

Mao lagi. Ma mingaw-mingaw na pood ta ani. LOL.

I was talking to Bryan last night, and it was one of those emotional convos guys have. He said something to the line as, "Its going to be different after this, man."

I'm just sad because I'm going to be leaving my bed behind, hahaha. 'te the beds that they give us in the apartment is like so comfortable. A man can have like 2 or 2 sleeping buddies and still have space to go around. hahahaha.

'te, how does your lantern look like? Show me please!

I bet you'll miss the comfort of your bed in that apartment, Dong, and of course, the friends you have there.  Change sometimes is not comfortable but it's inevitable.  You'll be fine.

Ok, I promise I will take a picture of my lantern - no one can disagree that this is Pinoy lantern! lol  I am leaving in a bit to meet some friends in downtown but once I get back, I will post the lantern here.

Dong, that looks so comfortable!  Yes, I noticed the Christmas decor but I don't want to say anything (like I didn't now  ;)) because I still have my Pinoy Christmas lantern hanging at my window!  It has become a source of direction for friends who come to the house for the first time - just in case they miss the house number.  "That house in Patton Avenue with Pinoy lantern."

Dong, so up to when are you staying there?  ARe you going back to NJ with your family?

I didn't know where Amarela Resort was and so I 'googled' the word.  So it's also in Panglao and it ranked number 1 in the 31 hotels/resorts in Bohol.  I checked their website but the first thing I saw the the 5.5k minimum room charge  a day!  But it looks like it's all worth it!

Thanks a lot, Bene san for this good news of seeing our dear Bohol featured in national newspaper!

Four weeks ago, my husband and I signed up for this Weekend Warriors band sponsored by Skip's Music! We were 7 in a band and practiced twice a week. Today, we get to perform at Harlow's that was originally scheduled at Hard Rock Cafe. Anyway, my husband and I had fun! My ever supporting family and friends came over to see us and we all had fun!

The Lame Excuses Band! This was our last rehearsal last Saturday, May 3rd!

Me with the band!

I'll post more pics of the guests tomorrow!   :o

I'd like you to take a look at the first picture and notice the young man in the far left of Hapon.  That's the same guy who was also next to Hapon in the stage when they were performing already. He's the one who was using the bass instrument.  He only got one arm or should I say, 1 1/2 arms.  He lost half of his right arm in a vehicular accident and his leg is also made of steel.  And yet it didn't stop him from rocking the stage!  I didn't even notice that he was the same guy I saw earlier with a missing arm!  He just had fun and rocked up there in the stage!

I wanted to eat KFC today.  We went to the outlet close to our house.  They were supposed to open at 10:30 but it was already past 11 and the store was still closed so I said, let's just go to McDo, thinking that McDos here are like Jollibee.  It's my first time to go to a McDonald's for over 10 years - well except to just drive thru for french fries.  Anyhow,  I asked the Mexican lady if they have Chicken Thighs and legs.  She said yes so I said I'd like 3 pieces.  It was so hard to understand what she was saying so I just kept on saying yes.  She gave me an emply paper cup so I supposed I was to get free drinks.  Murage paid 6 dollars.  The she gave me a paper bag containing the food.  I peeped in it and there was a large fries and a tiny box, I was thinking where my chicken thighs and legs were.  But the box was so tiny.  I checked it out when I got home kay na busy man pod kaon sa fries.  To my great surprise, I only had three small strips of chicken!  Murage was laughing.  He said, with the money you paid, you can already get a whole big o chicken! Then he added, I guess we are really on our way to recession!  :D

Life is tough na bitaw jud oi!

Sis Ging,

Salamat.

Our FGCA secretary is a PUP scholar ug daghan sab siya experience sa iyang pagka scholar nga among nabasehan.

So far ok raman. Sa sinugdanan sa pagsugod pa niya may gipakapin nga para sa iyang school uniform.

Sis A, salamat kaayo pag share sa imong input jud!  Wala bitaw na na consider  what you said about the close relatives of the Board.  Sige ato ra unya ning han-ayon jud ug ayo and I know naa ra mo diha to correct.

Grace, salamat kaayo sa imong time pag gama aning Guidelines, doing pretty good.

my comments:

I agree with A, it needs a lot of considerations to avoid an overlooked problem in the end that we hate to be sorry later on.

About your question Grace on how to say "poor" as one of the requirement, you can use the word " limited finances". And maybe interview the parents as well about their income status?

and lastly, please don't forget, the first reason why Manong Lindy suggested to have a scholar studying Agriculture is to have somebody who will lead in this kind of work. Which means, as soon as he/she graduated school, he/she is willing to work there and not anywhere else. After all, what's the purpose of having an agricultural scholar in Bohol, right?

Thanks, Beth!  I agree with all of you na di dapat pa dalos2x ta ani.  Dili man jud dayon ma perfect because we'll learn as we go along.  But at least jud plastado na atong guidelines, resources, applicants na gapilian, etc.

As to the socio=economic condition of our applicants, I find it subjective man gud ang "limited finances" or low-level income.  Let's pick up the scenario Gemma presented.  If there are 5 children in the family and 4 are already in college.  The fifth one is just way too much for the parents to send to school so na belong na sya sa "limited finances" although we really couldn't consider them as low-level income.  So I think, the selection shall be based, who among the applicants, needs the most of this scholarship award.

I know mao na atong intention of having this Agri scholar.  It was just a personal view that I had that doesn't go along with our intention here in providing this scholarship.

Again, salamat Beth for your input!  Ato man jud ko'g ma han-ay ug tarong if there are more "brains" contributing ideas here.  As they say, Two brains are better than one!   :D

Ganahan kaayo oi naghatag mo'g input kay mag maayo man jud na kitang tanan magtambayayong ani kay ato man ning Project.

Grace, What ages will qualify for the scholarship?

If there are 4 or 5 members of the family and all of them were going to College. None of them have high
grades. Can 1 of them qualify for the scholarship program?

It will be a big help for the Parents who are struggling and need help with tuition costs.
Were not only helping the students but helping the Parents as well.

Suggest lang pod na nako.

Gem, I don't think we are setting an age requirement basta lang nka graduate ug High School para maka proceed to college.  I think Gem, ultimately, ang atong pilion ang most deserving taking into consideration the grade and income level sa parents. Kumbaga kong kinsa jud tong mag nanginahanglan.   I am hoping we have a say sa selection process like i post ang essay sa mga applicants unya syempre maghatag atong TB representative ug recommendation basing sa ilang personal interview sa applicants.

BOC, You did a very good job.  Thanks.

By the way, this is only a suggestion:

If the applicant meet that qualified grade as requested ... only those applicant will be accepted if the Family really suffering under grinding poverty.  I mean... those who have a relatives who are working abroad need not to apply, is this okey?   A son and/or daughter from those  rich Bol-anons  and distinguished personalities have nothing to do with this TB program, right?

BOC, I totally agree with you.  I  thought of this but how do we put into words that one of our requirements is that they should be poor?  I was thinking that in their essay that the applicants are to submit, among other things, we will screen who is the most deserving and I think the socio-economic condition of our applicants will play a big role in the selection process.

That is what i thougt A kay naka bantay ko sa injung scholarship took much time of planning.

Just my opinion too (second the motion) too soon if we do it this june kay naa pay raising of money, plus ang pag pili pa.

kay ug mag dali2x ta maka kuha na dayun ta ug dili deserving nga student, and thus lessen the essence of our goal!

opinion ra ni.

I agree with you Sis A and Maring that June is too soon to start the scholarhip.  However, if we start now the process of selection - after of course finalizing the guidelines, setting up of account, selection or election of TB representatives to represent us in the school, etc., it is not farfetch that we can start already by second semester which is in October.

Unsay mahitabo kon babaye ang scholar unya mabuntis.
Madisqualified bapod?

Kon moabroad dayon ang scholar inig kahuman eskwela dili ba madisappointed ang naghatag sa scholarship?

Daghan pang ubang mga IFs..

Sis, for the first question, I think it shouldn't be a detrimental sa atong scholar kong babae atong scholar unya mabuntis or maminyo for as long as ma maintain niya iyang grades.  If not, she'll be dropped.

Sa second concern nimo Sis, you have a point there.  Do we need to let the scholar sign a document to only work in Bohol and if our scholar, after graduation decides to go and work somewhere else, he/she pays a certain amount. Ato sa jud ning iklaro aron walay loopholes.  Kon ako pabut-on, I don't want our scholar to feel obliged.  It would be nice if he/she can serve our province but if he/she has better opportunity somewhere else, then so be it.  But that's just me.  In most cases, ipa serve man jud sa host provice like about 2 years ba kaha.

A grade of 90 is, in my opinion, adequate enough. That is considered a B+ in many colleges here in the United States. I was even thinking about increasing the requirement to at least a 93 (an A-).

A 90, in my opinion, is doable. It is not hard to maintain an average of B+.

Maybe we can increase the monthly stipend. p1000.00 is, in my opinion, too little. Perhaps we can increase it to p2000.00 (around this?)

Boholanos are naturally smart. I have confidence that we can find above par student candidates quickly.

Best,
Bran Lorenzo

Thanks, Dong!  Agree pod ko nimo sa grade requirement.  I thought I was being considerate na for setting the grade requirement to 90.  Maybe I need to clarify that particular item na 90 average grade with no less that 87 as minimum grade to take into consideration the figure given by Sis Asianfairy.  What do you think?

As to the monthly stipend, I agree with you.  2k is more like it.  I based that estimate of 1k to our cousin's monthly allowance. :D

Three decades have passed since the movie Jaws sent terrified bathers scrambling out of the ocean. But as any beach lifeguard knows, there's still nothing like a gory shark attack to stoke public hysteria and paranoia.

Two deaths in the waters off California and Mexico last week and a spate of shark-inflicted injuries to surfers off Florida's Atlantic coast have left beachgoers seeking an explanation for a sudden surge in the number of strikes.

In the first four months of this year, there were four fatal shark attacks worldwide, compared with one in the whole of 2007, according to the International Shark Attack File at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville.

'The one thing that's affecting shark attacks more than anything else is human activity,' said Dr George Burgess of Florida University, a shark expert who maintains the database. 'As the population continues to rise, so does the number of people in the water for recreation. And as long as we have an increase in human hours in the water, we will have an increase in shark bites.'

Some experts suggest that an abundance of seals has attracted high numbers of sharks, while others believe that overfishing has hit their food chain. 'I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's a convenient excuse,' Burgess said. Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures. 'You'll find that some species will begin to appear in places they didn't in the past with some regularity,' he said.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida, is called the shark attack capital of the world. It has had more recorded incidents per square mile than any beach on Earth. So far this year there have been 10 attacks on surfers, including three in three days last week, although officials say most of the wounded were able to make their own way to hospital.

'It's more like a vicious dog bite, half a dozen stitches, a few bandages, that sort of thing,' said Scott Petersohn, a captain with the Volusia County Beach Patrol, which covers 47 miles of coastline including New Smyrna Beach.

'The sharks that inflict the most damage here, the black tips, can be about two or three feet long. There are some bigger ones along our coast, tiger sharks and bull sharks, but there's a sustainable food supply for them. People are not on the menu for sharks.'

At Solano Beach, California, where 66-year-old David Martin was killed last week by a great white shark estimated to be 4.5 metres long, and off the Mexican coast near Acapulco, where 25-year-old American tourist Adrian Ruiz fell victim to a suspected tiger shark, there were conflicting claims.

Meanwhile, the wildlife protection group Wildcoast has accused the Mexican authorities of 'international shark hysteria' over the slaughter of at least 10 near the beach at Troncones on the Pacific coast where Ruiz died. A navy spokesman said a 200-metre line with baited hooks was set up to catch any sharks threatening the beach.

'They more than likely had nothing to do with the attack. Since sharks are threatened in Mexico, this is the worst type of vengeance security imaginable,' said Aida Navarro, the group's wildlife conservation programme manager.

'It's the equivalent of stepping on to the plains of the Serengeti when you step into the water,' Burgess said. 'It's not like a swimming pool. This is a wilderness experience and with it comes a certain amount of risk.

'What's needed is some kind of system to prevent people and sharks coming together in a dangerous way.'

Thank you Ate Ethyl,

I was sad last week because my friend cannot go with us. His Mom left him and his Dad cannot
afford the cost. Each student will pay $650.00. I mention it to my Mom and Dad because I want
my friend to be with us. He is very smart too. Dad felt sorry so he went to our School and talk to our
teachers and ask them if he could pay my friend's ticket so he can be on our trip.

Our Teachers agreed and so did my friends parents so he will be coming with us.

Yahoo! Way to go Mom and Dad you're my heroes.

Kyle, stories of kindness and generosity like what you shared just make me weep.  It's not just for making your friend happy that he can join the expedition but also how you appreciated your parents' love to you by telling them they were your heroes!  Keep it up, my dear Kyle!

Enjoy your trip and think of us when you see beautiful things! God bless you, lil Kyle!  I love you!

Ako ning i hatag sa iya na link just in case mawala sya sa pasing, Maring!  Pretty bird knows more than 20 words, I think.  He or she is pretty quick in picking up new words like almost instantaneous.

Maring, speaking of birds, there's a nest in the front yard tree.  The bird's color is a combination of yellow gold and gray.  It seems like it's  tamed because it keeps following Murage while he is tending his garden.  That's just cool!

Journey, first welcome to Tubag Bohol.  Are you Tagalog?  The reason why I asked so I will refrain from speaking in Visaya if I am adressing my post to you.  About your question on DYHP, I checked on their website and I think they you can listen live through internet.  I don't know though if they air thru internet the dramas.   Below is the link of their website:

GEC, I now understand what Olintaha said about in the comment of his in the other thread.  It escaped my little brain the same reason why google became rich:  the Adwords and in the case of this 7wonder website, the Adsense.  They earn a little something from cents to dollars every time somebody click to their website.  That is why we see a lot of ddvertisements when we click the websites.

Yes, 'te. The Knights of Columbus is a Fraternal Knighthood based on the character of chivalry, religious order, and the protection of the Catholic Church. The KOC was established to increase the faith, and most of all, to protect the Church. Knights of Columbus are not used to fight, its main goal is to spearhead the needs of the church in the communities it is located in. Where there is hunger, they help to fight it, where there is need, they help to alleviate it. They assist in church activities and protect the parishoners who come to visit the House of God. Provide safety for those who come to church in their weekly pilgrimage to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.

:)

Thank you, Dong for the info!  Smiffy's father is a Sir Knight.  He was elevated to fourth degree 3 weeks ago.
