Precautions

People who intend to use apple cider vinegar should ensure that it is heavily diluted. Ellison suggests 10 parts water to one part vinegar as a safe mixture.

In more concentrated doses, apple cider vinegar can erode tooth enamel or burn your mouth and throat. A 2012 study found that drinking one glass of apple cider vinegar each day caused significant tooth erosion. "Make sure you rinse your mouth with water afterwards," says Ellison.

You can find plenty of positive testimonials on the effects of the apple cider vinegar diet, even if there is little scientific evidence to support these claims.

#10004

What Are Some Other Benefits?

While vinegar seems to have an acidic quality to it, it actually does just the opposite in your body. "Apple cider vinegar helps the body maintain an alkaline pH, which is widely regarded as anti-cancer and promotes general vitality and wellbeing," says Ellison.

Your body’s pH is a measure of your body’s acidity and alkalinity. Severe acidity can lead to a number of health problems, like acidosis â€" which affects the kidneys and lungs â€" and kidney stones. Recent studies support the observation that apple cider vinegar is beneficial for managing post-meal blood sugar levels. This can be very helpful for people with diabetes. Keeping it balanced is essential for maintaining good health. Severe acidity can lead to a number of health problems, like acidosis and kidney stones.

Apple cider vinegar â€" as a supplement or applied topically â€" can also be good for the skin.

"When applied topically, it regulates the pH of the skin and has a great effect fighting age spots, acne, and even warts," says Ellison. "It has a detoxifying effect on the liver which will show up in a glowing healthy complexion. Its beneficial bacteria will contribute to healthy skin as well, because our skin is a reflection of what is inside us as well as what is outside us."

What Do the Experts Say?

Not all experts are convinced. There is very little evidence to prove the claims that apple cider vinegar actually helps to burn fat and increase weight loss. Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D., health expert at the Mayo Clinic, says losing weight on the apple cider vinegar diet "isn't likely.”

In a 2014 review, researchers found that while there is some evidence that vinegars can help with hyperglycemia and obesity, there is no evidence that it positively affects metabolism.
#10006

How Does It Work?

So how does apple cider vinegar help people lose weight?

"Apple cider vinegar accelerates the body's ability to break down and derive nutrients from fats and protein efficiently and quickly from the digestive system, which means a faster metabolism and more vitality," says Ellison.

Both apple cider vinegar and raw apples contain the fiber pectin. There is evidence to suggest that fibers like pectin can increase a person’s sense of fullness after they eat it, which lowers their desire to overeat or compulsively snack.

Apple Cider Vinegar Diet: The Truth

Written by Joe Bowman | Published on September 19, 2014

What is the Apple Cider Vinegar Diet?

Apple cider vinegar has been around for a long time. Its use dates back thousands of years. It’s been used for detoxification, treating pneumonia, and weight loss. Some claim that ancient Greek physician Hippocrates used it to cure a host of ailments.

When it comes to weight loss, the apple cider vinegar diet isn't like a lot of the others on the market. All it requires is adding a little bit of apple cider vinegar to your (hopefully already) sensible diet.

"Recommendations vary, but sensible approaches involve either drinking several teaspoons of apple cider vinegar before meals and/or adding apple cider vinegar to meals," explains Jaimi Ellison, personal trainer and president of Santa Cruz Core in California. "Apple cider vinegar can be incorporated into the diet in a balanced and sustainable way, integrating this valuable substance into your nutrition."

Tips on Taking Apple Cider Vinegar

Don't drink it straight. It’s so acidic that it could harm your tooth enamel and your esophagus.

Don't use a lot. “Dilute 1 to 2 tablespoons in a big glass of water, and sip it along with your meals one or two times a day,” Johnston says.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Digestion

If you drink apple cider vinegar with a starchy meal, then the starches you don't digest will feed the good bacteria in your gut, Johnston says.

Davis recommends using unfiltered apple cider vinegar, “the cloudy kind, where you can see a blob in the bottle.”

That blob is known as “the mother,” and it’s full of probiotics and other beneficial bacteria. “This kind of vinegar can support immune function and, for some people, even help with constipation,” Davis says.

If you have gastroparesis, a common problem with diabetes that slows stomach emptying, be careful. Early research shows apple cider vinegar may make this problem worse.

"I’m concerned that drinking vinegar, even diluted in water, increases acid in your system, which puts a strain on your kidneys and bones,” Dansinger says.

If you have diabetes and want to try apple cider vinegar, let your doctor know, and keep an eye on your blood sugar levels.

Johnston stresses that if you are on medication for diabetes, you shouldn’t stop taking it and substitute vinegar. If you're thinking about using it to help manage your blood sugar, talk to your doctor first.
#10011

Not every expert feels as confident about apple cider vinegar’s power.

"Trying to use vinegar to treat diabetes is like trying to bail out a flooded basement with a teaspoon," says Michael Dansinger, MD, director of Tufts University’s diabetes lifestyle coaching program.

He advises patients to focus instead on their overall diets -- a strategy backed by a lot more research, he says.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Blood Sugar

While apple cider vinegar probably won’t make you skinny, it does appear to help with diabetes and blood sugar control.

Carol Johnston, PhD, directs Arizona State University’s nutrition program. She has been studying apple cider vinegar for more than 10 years and believes its effects on blood sugar are similar to certain medications.

“Apple cider vinegar’s anti-glycemic effect is very well documented,” Johnston says.

She explains that the vinegar blocks some of the digestion of starch. “It doesn’t block the starch 100%, but it definitely prevents at least some of that starch from being digested and raising your blood sugar,” Johnston says.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Weight Loss

Have you heard that apple cider vinegar will help you lose weight?

The only study to test the idea in people was done in Japan. In the study, 175 obese but healthy people took either vinegar or water daily for 12 weeks. Their diets were similar. They kept food journals. At the end of the study, those who used vinegar had lost slightly more weight. On average, the vinegar group lost 1-2 pounds over the 3-month period. They gained it all back after the study was over.

The researchers suggest that vinegar may turn on certain genes involved in breaking down fats.

The effect is probably very subtle, says Chicago dietitian Debbie Davis, RD. “It may have some benefits in terms of weight loss and weight management, but it is definitely not a quick fix."

If you want to lose weight, you’ll still need to exercise and practice portion control.

Yet another super-worthy stat: Apple cider vinegar enhances the nutrition of bone broth. “Add it to the bones, water, and seasoningsâ€"1/8 cup for 1 pound bones, ¼ for 2 pounds of bones, and so onâ€"about a half an hour before boiling. This helps pull more minerals from the bones,” says Stolz.

How To Try It: Stir a couple teaspoons into a glass of water and sip before meals. Another trick: Add 1 to 2 tablespoons to seltzer water then add stevia to taste (optional). “It’s like drinking a non-alcoholic, non-caloric sparkling cider,” says Stolz, who advises keeping your daily ACV dose to 2 to 3 tablespoons max.

Some advocates favor the pungent tonic first thing in the morning, but pairing it with your starchy meals may be your best bet. “Research shows apple cider vinegar can help prevent blood sugar spikes because it interferes with starch and carbohydrate absorption,” says Stolz. Pros agree that reducing the glycemic response in the body is especially important if you’re diabetic or have insulin resistance, but anyone can benefit. Notes St. Pierre: Ingesting it with a higher carbohydrate meal can decrease post-meal blood glucose levels, which can also lower inflammation and protect blood vessel linings.

“My digestion improved when I added it to my diet so I started recommending it to clients. One had chronic bad breath that may have been linked to an imbalanced digestive system, so I got her on a daily apple cider vinegar protocol and her breath, digestion, and skin improved within weeks.”

Consistent ingestion of apple cider vinegar has been tied to moderate weight loss as well. “Some studies suggest the acetic acid in it can boost satiety between meals so you may eat less,” says Brian St. Pierre, R.D., a fitness and nutrition coach with Precision Nutrition.

The research, published in the journal PLoS ONE, examined the genealogical information of more than 3,000 members of the Spanish Habsburg family over 16 generations.

They found nine of the 11 marriages within the Habsburg dynasty over 200 years were between biological relatives including two uncle-niece marriages.

Furthermore, despite their power and wealth the study found there was also a high rate of infant and child mortality in the Hapsburg families.

Only half of the children born in the dynasty during the years examined survived to age one, compared to about 80 per cent in Spanish villages of the time.

#10028

'During the last years of his life he barely can stand up, and suffers from hallucinations and convulsive episodes. His health worsens until his premature death when he was 39, after an episode of fever, abdominal pain, hard breathing and coma.'

The cosanguineous marriages also contributed to the development of the 'Hapsburg jaw' which featured in paintings by Titian and Velazaquez. This disfiguring condition is where the lower jaw grows faster than upper jaw.
As well as having this trait, Charles II's tongue was so big he had difficulty speaking and drooled.

#10029

Charles II's father King Philip IV, left, with the 'Hapsburg jaw' and, right, his mother Maria Anna. King Philip was her uncle

'He was short, weak and quite lean and thin. He first marries at 18 and later at 29, leaving no descendency.

'His first wife talks of his premature ejaculation, while his second spouse complains about his impotency. He looked like an old person when he was only 30 years old, suffering from edemas on his feet, legs, abdomen and face.
#10030

He was born on the 11th of November 1661, and was the only surviving son of his father's two marriages - a child of old age and disease, in whom the constant intermarriages of the Habsburgs had developed the family type to deformity.

Study leader Professor Gonzalo Alvarez, of the University of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, said: 'He was unable to speak until the age of four, and could not walk until the age of eight.
#10031

During that period several European powers, including Great Britain, combined to stop a possible unification of the Kingdoms of Spain and France under a single Bourbon monarch, upsetting the European balance of power.
Monarchs tried to consolidate their power by intermarrying and Charles II was the son of Philip IV by his second marriage with Maria, daughter of the emperor Ferdinand III, his niece.

The study shows that he was the offspring of a marriage almost as genetically inbred as a relationship between a parent and child or brother and sister.

Nicknamed El Hechizado ('The Hexed') because people at the time thought Charles II's disabilities were down to witchcraft, it is believed he suffered from at least two inherited disorders.

One was a hormone deficiency and the other a kidney malfunction which could explain his impotence and infertility which led to the extinction of the dynasty.
#10032

Mothers and fathers who share their ancestry make their offspring more vulnerable to birth defects and harmful DNA mutations.

By the time King Charles II died in 1700 without any children from his two marriages, the male line of the Spanish branch of the family, which produced rulers in Austria, Hungary and the Netherlands, died out.

His failure to produce an heir, despite having married twice, sparked the War of the Spanish Succession between 1701 and 1714.

How keeping it in the family spelled the end of the line for the Hapsburg royal dynasty

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER
15 April 2009

Charles II who is believed to have suffered from two inherited disorders which prevented him from fathering an heir. This resulted in the end of the Hapsburg dynasty

The Hapsburg dynasty, one of the most influential and celebrated in Europe was driven to extinction because of inbreeding, say researchers.

The kings who ruled Spain and its empire from 1516 for almost 200 years during the most glorious period in its history frequently married close relatives such as nieces and first cousins. This in turn led to ill health and a high rate of infant and child mortality.

The first scientific evidence for the significance of inter-marriage in this major European family shows that down the generations successors to the throne were much more likely to receive copies of two identical 'homozygous' genes, one from each parent.

Charles II (1661-1700), the last Habsburg King of Spain had the most extreme case of Habsburg Jaw recorded.  He was also mentally disabled. An analysis of the previous marriages that led to his birth reveals multiple uncle-niece marriages and first cousin marriages.

Malinois dogs, which physically resemble German Shepherds, are used as bomb-sniffers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and known for both their intelligence and work ethic, according to Animal Planet.

Benno, meantime, has diligently returned to his old ways. Since his surgery, Brassfield says, Benno has consumed yet another of his wife's bras.

"My first concern was not an explosion but poisoning," said veterinarian Dr. Sarah Shelton, who feared Benno’s stomach acids would attack the metal to fatal effect.

Shelton removed 16 cartridges from Benno’s stomach and left two in his esophagus rather than prolong the two-hour surgery, correctly calculating that the animal would soon expel them.

In all, the dog had eaten 23 rounds.

She said Benno’s prognosis is “excellent.”

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Reuters) - After devouring a television remote, a lawn mower gas filter and bras, Benno, a 4-year-old Belgian Malinois dog, outdid himself by consuming nearly two dozen bullets.

“He acted like nothing was wrong until he threw up," Benno’s owner, Larry Brassfield of Mountain Home, Arkansas, said on Friday adding that is when he discovered a nearly three-inch long bullet in the puddle.

Brassfield noticed several 308-caliber rounds missing and rushed Benno to a veterinarian, where x-rays revealed a small arsenal in the animal's stomach in the late April incident.

However, you have more control over your stress than you realize, according to Robinson. “You have the power to consciously activate that parasympathetic nervous system, which will calm you down,” she says. “People always say, ‘Just breathe.’ It’s actually really true. Something as simple as slowing down your breath is a really sound physiological strategy.”

When your body is dumping adrenaline, she says, there’s a feedback loop. Continue to stew in stress, and you’re telling your body there is an imminent threat. Practice methods of calmness, and you’re signaling that all is well. The moment you break the pattern of stress, is the moment you send a message to your brain that you are OK â€" slowing down that release of chemicals.

So, next time you’re stressed? Remember: you’re in control, and channel those inner-superpowers.

Finding An Outlet

Bottom line, says London: Stress, whether chronic or acute, is a big deal if you don’t find an outlet. “The best way to handle stress is to expel it,” he says, suggesting outdoor exercise foremost. “Exercise can reduce stress hormones, flooding the body with endorphins that improve mood, boost energy, and provide a healthy distraction. Yoga is another effective [outlet] for your anxiety.”

If you cannot find a solution that works for you, seeking a therapist’s advice can be helpful â€" especially before stress becomes “chronically debilitating,” says London.
#10057

Scientists call this psychoneuroimmunology, where stress can actually alter the immune system in a big way. “There are several cytokines that transport information throughout the body, particularly important here are interleukins,” says Robinson. “When you are chronically stressed, they are overpopulating, overworking, and sending mixed messages throughout the body.”

Your immune system doesn’t know what to do with those messages, leading to real, worsening, even lasting changes in immune function. “This is why we often see autoimmune conditions develop after periods of chronic stress,” she says. “Sometimes we see Crohn’s disease, sometimes we see shingles.”

London has also seen how ruminating in moderate stress long-term can have catastrophic impact. “It can lead to a host of destructive health issues â€" depression, headaches, and gastrointestinal problems like heartburn, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome,” he says. “It can also impact your ability to concentrate. It can cause insomnia. Your ability to focus on work and relationships will also be affected.”
#10058

And everyone responds to varying degrees of psychological stress differently. “Our systems are so unique physiologically,” she explains. “We all have our own internal needs, sleeping well and eating well for our own bodies, and they have massive implications on our health. If these needs aren’t being met adequately, you can have a full-blown incident.”

The Slow Burn Of Stress

Yet, there’s more to it. If stress is not intense and acute for a time, but slow, steady and chronic over time, you can also encounter some major health problems â€" a buzzy topic of study right now in the field of psychology. “Stress day in and day out, on end, can change the brain chemistry,” says Robinson, “and it has huge implications for our immune systems.”

#10059

However, sometimes during periods of acute stress, the switch for the sympathetic nervous system “gets jammed on,” says Robinson. This means you’re in an extended version of fight-or-flight mode. Non-essential processes will continually be in shutdown mode, from digestion to immune function. “You’re not worried about fighting a cold virus when your body perceives an immediate threat and you’re suffering acute stress,” Robinson says.

This can happen if you’re stuck in prolonged stress mode â€" maybe a big project at work is taking up all your time, or a troubled relationship is requiring all your energy. Your body may perceive the rigors of these situations as immediate danger. “If you interpret getting very little sleep and less food as life-threatening, then this can trigger a panic attack,” says Robinson. “It’s because your system is being triggered to fight â€" but you’re not. You’re just sitting there, with heart pumping out of control.”
#10060

Within that system, there are the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system, which work in tandem during your average day, says Robinson. The sympathetic system works to overcome the threat, aka your average stressor. Lungs expand to ready the body for movement, and non-essential functions like the digestive system shut down to funnel glucose to the muscles as you prepare to “flee.” Your heart rate rises.

Let’s say your stress is work-related. You go home. You meditate, do yoga, take a nap. “This person can usually recover quickly,” says Robinson. “The parasympathetic nervous system is activated, telling your body to calm down. Think about it like a lullaby, or like a car where you brake, accelerate, brake, accelerate.” Your heart rate slows, your eyes un-dilate, your body releases energy.
#10061

Stress As A Signal Of Danger

Biologically speaking, since caveman days, our bodies have been primed to respond to stressors indicating danger â€" even though “danger” today no longer includes saber-tooth tigers, says Diane Robinson, PhD, a neuropsychologist at UF Health Cancer Center - Orlando Health.

If you don’t immediately tap into calming powers after a stressful situation â€" meditation, yoga, sleep, whatever works for you â€" your body will enter fight-or-flight mode. “With intense stress on a short-term basis, your body thinks there might be a threat, which triggers a release of chemicals,” Robinson tells Yahoo Health. “You’ve got fast-acting adrenaline affecting every organ in the body. Your cortisol levels are rising. At the same time, the autonomic nervous system is also triggered.”
#10062

“Short-term stress can be valuable in situations that require an immediate response,” he tells Yahoo Health. “When you’re preparing for an exam, the anxiety you feel will motivate you to focus on your workâ€" or stress can help push you when you’re trying a new activity where you may be fearful, producing a ‘live-saving,’ flight-or-fight response when you feel you’re in immediate danger.”

But acute stress and chronic stress can invoke a sense of danger â€" and some serious effects on the body. From crying to sweating, panic attacks to mental breakdowns â€" and even physical illness â€" relentless anxiety can swing a person into a tizzy. (Think: extreme responses to a disaster or traumatic event, or celebrities who have crumbled under the spotlight’s glare.)

btw, congratulations, koko.  the country that you purport to come from beat our country, your current host, in almost everything in terms of economic data.  but note too that you also beat us in HIV/AIDS deaths and prevalence.

HIV/AIDS Deaths:

Philippines:    200
Thailand:    28,000

HIV/AIDS Adult Rate:

Philippines       0.1%
Thailand          1.3%

next time, koko, if you can't watch your manners as a guest in a foreign country, at least watch your english grammar if you must convey, in the english language, your arrogance and false sense of superiority.  and hide your ugly face from the internet, please.  it's pathetic.

look closer at that face, especially in this instance when he's pigging out.  he may not be a pignoy, but he's a cross between a pigthail and a hippopotamus, with my apologies for insulting pigs and hippos. :)

pignoys?  a term coming from a pigthail?  no sweat.  he's alone.  singular.  unlike his plural pignoyS.  most thais aren't like him.  they're more educated and cultured than this pigthail, and it shows.

rather, i expected the company that he's working for, in the philippines, knows how to vet their employees better.

Pfeiffer says he lost seven days of work at $45 an hour and has to take Ambien and Trazodone to sleep. He’s suing for unspecified damages.
A spokesman for the city said, “the lawsuit will be reviewed.”

The real Banksy, who’s never revealed his true name, peppered New York City with “exhibits” at unannounced locations every day throughout a 31-day self-styled “residency” in the fall of 2013.

He also sold his work for $60 a pop to unsuspecting tourists in Central Park. Auction houses later said the pieces would sell for up to $160,000 each.

Pfeiffer’s attorney, Ilissa Brownstein, said her client was merely admiring the artwork with his fiance when police pounced.

Cops thought they’d found their culprit because Pfeiffer was carrying a marker, but the engineer showed police that the image wasn’t fresh because it didn’t smudge, Brownstein said.

He also explained that the tip of his marker didn’t match the wall drawing.
But the officers weren’t buying Pfeiffer’s story and he was locked up for 24 hours before a judge released him, according to the suit.

The case against Pfeiffer, who had no criminal record, was tossed in October, the filing says.

Is the mysterious British graffiti artist known as Banksy a 33-year-old Brooklyn freelance engineer?

No, but cops arrested Richard Pfeiffer anyway, last summer, accusing him of drawing a smiley face on an East Village coffee shop wall, when he was merely admiring the work, which he claims was put there by the famous “street artist,” according to his new lawsuit.

Pfeiffer filed suit ion Manhattan Supreme Court against the city and six police officers citing false arrest after he was nabbed outside the Third Rail Coffee shop at 159 2nd Ave. near 10th Street on July 12.

While the press release seems confined to Twitter for the moment, a few publications seem to have fallen for the hoax.

Complex wrote earlier this afternoon:

While the rumor swirls around often, this time it may be true. Banksy was supposedly arrested yesterday in London under charges of vandalism and counterfeiting. He has been revealed as Paul Horner, a 39-year-old male born in Bristol, England.

He is said to be currently held without bail. We will report more details as they are revealed.

Jezebel also seem to have taken the bait, though they swiftly added a caveat acknowledging it may be a hoax.

Tellingly, the contact address for the release is an email address at the domain name www.iywib.com, a humor site (it's currently down).

We have to give the writer some credit, though â€" the details in the press release are pretty specific. It claims that Banksy is Paul William Horner, a 39-year old male born in Bristol, England.

And it says that he's "currently being held without bail on charges of vandalism, conspiracy, racketeering and counterfeiting."

The Report Of Graffiti Artist Banksy's Arrest Is Definitely A Hoax

JULIE ZEVELOFF
FEB. 22, 2013

There's a press release making the rounds on the internet this afternoon saying that London police have arrested famed graffiti artist Banksy and revealed his identity.

Don't believe it â€" the whole thing seems to be a hoax.

We just placed a call to London's Metropolitan Police, who confirmed that the Banksy is still safely under cover.

And there are no reports about the alleged arrest on BBC or CNN, which both supposedly covered the story according to the press release on PRLog.

Banksy Arrested In London, Identity Revealed

London Police Chief Wayne Leppard speaking to reporters about the arrest of Banksy.

London, England â€" The England-based graffiti artist, political activist, film director, and painter that for years has gone by the pseudonymous name of Banksy, was arrested early this morning by police in London. After hours of questioning and a raid of his London art studio, his true name and identity have finally been revealed.

The City of London Police say Banksy’s real name is Paul William Horner, a 39-year old male born in Bristol, England. The BBC has also confirmed this information with his PR agent Jo Brooks and the website that acts as a handling service on behalf of the artist, Pest Control.

London Police Chief Wayne Leppard held a press conference to answer questions about how Banksy was finally apprehended. “We had a 24-hour Anti-Graffiti Task Force monitoring different groups known to have associated with Banksy. We received word that around 2am a group of individuals left a flat speculated to be one of Banky’s art studios...

Through his talent and his dedication to art and his personal statements, Banksy has become perhaps the most famous anonymous artist ever. Banksy’s work is applauded by many, but some critics say that it oversimplifies issues to appeal to the masses. Other critics â€" most notably, representatives from Keep Britain Tidy â€" believe that Banksy’s street art is a crime and that he is setting a negative example for other would-be graffiti artists.

guerrilla art banksy chimp detonator

Just as controversial as his methods is Banksy’s take on the art world at large. He has been known to deride other artists for their self-importance and “inferior” art forms. He has even taken on the people who buy his art. Following a 2006 Sotheby’s auction of several of his works, he produced an illustration of an auction on his official website featuring the words “I can’t believe you morons actually buy this s***.” He is a vocal opponent of the organized art world, though he now produces some work that is more conventional than his street art roots.
