I've been away for three days and had no internet access. When I logged-in to Tubag Bohol I was swept with disbelief that one of our dearest members has already gone over to the other shore.

Orchids, I can't imagine you were just one year younger than me and you left too quickly before we get to know more about each other.

My condolences to the family...

Hello, Agaw Ireen,

My guess is that at the time the song was written by Ben Zubiri, Nelly, the fourth daughter, was not yet a teenager  :) . So, ang dalaga sila pa lang si Lola Nena, Lola Luz, and Lola Carol.  I'm a bit confused of the details myself so I'll clarify this with my mom.

Si Lolo Jeto is their youngest.

I spent a few Summers in Buenavista  when I was still very young. I remember catching some bugs with the other kids, tying them on strings with both ends tied to a twig pushed to the ground, and gleefuly watched the bugs fly in circles.

Yeah, it's a must that our families meet this December. See you then.

Sa akong huna-huna, tingali dili makapost ang ubang users online tungod kay:

1. Guests pa lang sila ug wala pa mo-register as member.

2. Kadaghanan sa mga members mo diretso click sa "Show new replies to your posts." Naturally, kon wala pa ang member maka post sukad sa thread nga bag-ong gisugdan, dili pud ni niya makita.

3. Kon mo click ang member sa "Show unread post since last visit", tingali nahitabo nga  ang thread nga imong gihimo tua nahimutang sa second page mao wala dayon makit-i; ug nahitabo nga adunay mga topics sa first page nga naka-interest sa users.

4. Maayong pagkasulat and post ug ang mga members nga nakabasa wala nay ikadugang pa.

5. Walay sila'y ika comment.

Mahupay-hupay ang kaguol kon makita nimo ang "Read ____ times". Dili tingali daghan ang mi post og reply pero pero daghan man pud ang mibasa, di ba?

Cheer up! Let's spread the sunshine! ;D

I'm not sure there is a prohibition of nominating a wife of a TOBAW awardee. Just the same, I'll bring this up with the Search Committee.

I hope you will have a grand time with the Daquipas next week.

You can email me at delaguna@tubagbohol.com.

Thanks!  :)

PS. You can drop the "atty." here. Just call me plainly delaguna  ;)

hello, delaguna! i hope this message finds you well... i've been browsing for websites re:other del rosario family members in bohol. my mum's a del rosario as well (from the line of solomon) and i was really sorry to have missed the reunion.
i have a multiply site where our other relatives are on as well. you might want to join up.
by the way, who are those in the old black-and-white photo?
i was just wondering if you're in tagbilaran. i go there often and my childhood summers and vacations were nearly all spent there (and buenavista too). i either stay at uncle rolly's (mum's bro) or lolo uriel's (my lolo's 1st cousin) or my relatives from the nunez side(my lola's).
my family and i are going to the phils this dec so i hope to meet you... mama el (my mum) would be a good guide as she knows most of the senior citizens (hope i didn't offend anyone-   ;)) . hope to get a response from you... ciao

Hello, iryt. I'm so glad you stumbled upon this thread. Sayang you missed the reunion but don't worry, there will be another reunion in the coming years.

The persons in the black and white photo are Spouses Bebiana del Rosario-Butalid (my great grandma and sister of Solomon) and Claudio Butalid and their children: Nena (eldest), Luz, Carolina (my grandma) and Nelly.

We look forward to seeing you this December  :)

Paging Atty. Handel, I can't send you pm kay puno na daw imong inbox.

Dear Grazie7y,

I can't access my private messages, either, so I could erase the old ones. Can you please relay this technical problem to Mike or Ginger?

Macky,

Thanks for the link on Atty. Glenn. We used to work in The Varsitarian together. I was a freshman and he was already a senior student and one of the section editors, if not the associate editor of the student paper.

I know you still have a few details about them which I do not have so please send me a PM (private message) of an overview of their involvements and, if you have the information, how they can be contacted.

If you know a few more persons who would qualify for the award, please post their names here.

When I was a high school freshman at UB, we attended a Provincial Jamboree at Doljo Beach, Panglao, Bohol. There was a big turn out of boy scouts (elementary and high school) from every town and city. Many exciting events were lined up for the event. In the morning of the second day, a huge Japanese cruise liner anchored offshore. Moments later, about a dozen motorized boats were deployed from the ship and headed for shore. The boats weren't able to come near the shore because the water in Doljo is very shallow.

This was long before the tourism boom in Bohol. Then, as if on cue, about fifty meters away from the shoreline, the boat passengers disembarked... and what we saw were about a hundred Japanese tourists in two-piece bikinis and swimming trunks, young and old, walking from the boat towards the shore. They frolicked on the beach, they sunbathed, played games... and I can still clearly remember an elderly Japanese painting the scene with water colors.

All the boy scouts and scout masters stood idly and enjoyed the scene which was perhaps a first time experience for most of those who were there.

No scouting event lined up for that day took place. Calls from the camp master to assemble were ignored. We were all glued at the beach scene the whole day.

By sunset, one of the Japanese motor boats ran aground as it was ferrying the last batch of frolickers back to the cruise ship. The tide was too low. The crew had to spend the night in the boat. They were able to get back to the ship only the following morning when the tide was high enough for the boat to navigate.

It was the Summer of 1985 and I was one of those who underwent a special training to qualify for the Scout Citizen Award (now reverted to its old pre-war title of Eagle Scout). We spent a week at the Pres. Roxas Park in Garcia-Hernandez where our proficiencies in knot tying, morse coding, first aiding, map reading, mountaineering and other camping skills were tested.

Then came the day which I hoped would never come. The test for swimming. Swimming is not really my forte.  Days before the scheduled camp, I tried to improve my swimming skills at the Family Beach in Booy, about 300 meters further from Cainget Beach. I had no coach or trainer. It was just me, my brother, and a few childhood neighbors.

The swimming test was set in the early morning. We were called out from our tents and we rushed out to assemble as one platoon. We stripped to our waste and marched towards the swimming pool. The instructions were given: Each of us, set by batches, will have to swim to the other end of the pool and make it back to the starting line.

The morning air was chilly. My name was called with the other scouts whose turn was next. We positioned ourselves at the edge of the pool. At the blow of the whistle, we dove into the water. The chill tore into my bones like a hundred jagged knives. I broke into the surface and gasped for air. I kicked my legs furiously to keep myself afloat. I started losing what little confidence I had in me. I lunged my right arm forward and then my left. I kept the rhythm and willed myself to go on but the coldness of the water soon became unbearable. I was already halfway through when my arms started to weaken and my legs were failing me. I kicked and paddled but I only found myself getting below the surface instead of moving forward. I tried to gasp for air but sucked in water. I was going down and starting to drown.

Were it not for a pole that Blair Panong held out to me, I might not be making this post right now.

Bambi, Gemma, Grazie... of course the Administrator and Founder Mike ( thanks for the attendance of your Mom my kumare )... and for the long list ( sa sunod nako usasahon ha... pasensya sa karon nga dili ko ka spend og dugay online kay busy pa gyod ko - mga aftershock sa big events ).

Basta I'll be spending more with you in the coming days.  In the meantime, CIAO and TAKE CARE.

Sir Jun,

Thank you for organizing last Sunday's Grand Eyeball. It was a very delightful experience, especially meeting TB members who are based outside the country, and a pleasant surprise getting to know TB members based in Bohol.

I wish I was able to join the tour on Saturday but my schedule was full. Although I would have wanted to stay longer last Sunday, Monday was already a few hours away and I need to prepare . . . I'm no longer young as I used to be and no matter how I wanted to think young, age has a way of catching up with daydreams  :)

To the TB members that I've met for the first time, the pleasure was all mine. To the TB members I've met again, seeing you once more is always a rewarding experience.

RT BELL DID NOT WRITE THIS EMAIL

Art Bell is as much a victim of this hoax as you are. In fact, he is married to a Filipina and has the highest regard for the Philippine people. He is as offended by the contents of this email as you are. He has posted these facts on his website and has responded to every single email from any of you with the truth and the facts. Still, the vicious anti-Filipino email keeps circulating and angry Filipinos keep emailing Art!

ART BELL DID NOT WRITE THE HATEFUL ANTI-FILIPINO EMAIL

Most recently, on July 1, 2001 the email attributed to Art Bell surfaced in a show business column in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, without the writer bothering to check the validity of the story. Two days later, July 3, the same column was taken up by a retraction and an apology, which the paper will run every day of the week, through July 8th. Please go to http://www.artbell.com/filipino.html to see this retraction, as well as the statement from Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates Art Bell’s radio program, Coast to Coast, and Art’s statement about the most recent developments in this
outrageous fraud.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer has now become a victim of this same hoax. They are doing the right thing by printing a retraction. Now, we need you to do the RIGHT THING.

http://bargainprofessor.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/art-bells-response-and-a-retraction/

On your word that Art Bell denied having written the email, Kiamoy, I will remove the post.
Mr. Bell's alleged letter aside, the insights of May Munoz on the achievements of the Filipinos is truly inspiring.

An urban legend about Hinagdanan Cave: A Japanese scuba diver once explored the depths of the water inside the cave (which is surprisingly fresh despite the fact that a few meters away is already the sea). The Japanese diver found a huge pile of feces at the bottom which could have belonged to a giant eel.

A bit information I got from a lady old-timer way back in the late '80's: The old entrance to the cave are the two holes shown in the picture. Long bamboo ladders were used back then. The present entrance was only discovered after the ancient balite tree withered and fell exposing the hole it had been guarding for centuries.

It was Vida May who told me Mr. Bene would be at ICM and that she would be meeting her in the evening yet. It was a pleasant surprise for me, who was with my 3 kids at Jollibee, to be spotted by Mr. Bene.

Although our meeting was brief, it was warm and very pleasant. I look forward to the future meetings with the very profound, emphatic and articulate Mr. Bene.

Hello everyone,

I was so glad I made it when the group was having its late lunch at Cafe Atanacio, Bohol Topics. I was tied up with the Rizal Day Celebration that morning of December 30. Fortunately we had had lunch at the Harbor View also at Bohol Tropics. So when Paul texted me where they were, I lost no time to tie up with the TB peeps after our affair.

I had a great time finally meeting and interacting the wonderful people behind the usernames. I may not be able to log in most of the time but I tried my best to be there when there's an eyeball.

Happy, Happy new year to all!

Inspiration & Hope / Of Flowers and Love
November 07, 2007, 11:33:38 AM
As requested by Grazie...

Excerpt from the "Flower Talk" Ceremony of the Order of DeMolay:

My body fed your body, son
But birth's a swift thing
Compared to one and twenty years
Of feeding you with spirit's tears
I could not make your mind and soul
But my glad hands have kept you whole
Your groping hands
Bound me to life with ruthless bands
And all my living became a prayer
While all my days built up a stair
For your young feet that trod behind
That you an aspiring way should find
Think you that life can give you pain
Which does not stab in me again?
Think you that life can give you shame
Which does not make my pride go lame?
And you can do no evil thing
Which sears me not with poisoned sting
Of all the things that I had done
Remember me in life, O, son
Keep that proud body, fine and fair
My life is monumented there
For my life, make no woman weep
For my life, hold no woman cheap
And see you give no woman scorn
For that dark night when you were born.

Who were the others at the EB? Stay tuned....

Truly kung magkahugpong ang tanang OFs and OFWs around the world, as i said, 10 millions and counting, not to mention their dependents, relatives and friends in the motherland PPP is a very potent force to address its concerns and help shape a government for the people, by the peope and of the people.

sama sa usa ka silhig: kung ang usa ka tukog imo kining gamiton mabali na lang ug maupos dili gayod magsilbi pero kon ang mga tukog imo kining bugkuson mohinlo kini sa dakong nga hawan.

padayon PPP!

Sir Knight Dong Bonite,

Welcome to Tubag Bohol. I hope you can interact often with the members of this site. You and your BOWACC are doing a great and wonderful initiative. I look forward to seeing you in Bohol once again.

The original orientation of the Panglao airport was at zero degrees, straight south to north. At this orientation, the approach path from the south would pass over the Alona beach area in barangay Tawala where most of the tourism-related establishments are situated.

This is no longer the orientation to avoid disturbance over the tourism areas. The new orientation is at 30 degrees north where the approach path of the aircraft will no longer be over  Alona but over barangay danao where there is not much tourism activity.

Only 55 houses (mixed materials of light to concrete) are within the 215 hectare area to be acquired for the airport.

The airport will be developed in two phases. First phase - with a runway length of 2.5 kilometers. Phase 2 - runway will be increased to 3.6 - 3.8 kms.  At the present layout the project site to be acquired is about 4.3 kms in length. This excludes a strip of land at both end for approach lights and the apron for the terminal building.

The airport in Tagbilaran can no longer be feasibly expanded. The cost for expansion that would proactively meet the requirements of the Province in the coming years would already be enough to build a complete new airport.

Acquisition cost of the land at panglao for the airport is sixty pesos per square meter. Land in Tagbilaran for airport expansion would be not less than three thousand pesos, plus the many houses and buildings that will be paid for just compensation.

Mitigating measures on the environmental impact are always considered and put in place in mega projects such as an airport. The environmental compliance certificate (ECC) would not have been issued if there were no mitigating measures.

The construction of the airport in panglao is a national policy that is already set into motion. It is not dependent on the demand of international airlines but rather an initiative to put Bohol, which is a key area in the Tourism Super Region, in the best advantage. If the government can build airports in far-flung areas with no guarantee of return of investment as a "missionary" project, with more reason to consider Panglao as a good place to build one.

Yes, pictures were taken to document the event. Ako lang ang walay camera :)
Either El Mundo, Junayag or SigbinII will upload it.

Junayag is a friend of two of my uncles who were his school mates back at the University of San Carlos.

El Mundo has been an old neighbor and a school mate.

SigbinII is the younger brother of a colleague at the provincial government.

I've just had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Junayag, knowing the face behind the newspaper which belongs to SigbinII, and seeing El Mundo by chance. I met Fiel Gabin having dinner with her family as I was on my way to the EB site.

It was not really men only because Sigbin said Melrose would have come if she were here in Tagbilaran but, at that time, she was in Cebu. According to Mr. Junayag, Mari is busy setting up her internet cafe.

It was a wonderful evening and the exchange of ideas of how Tubag Bohol has become significant in many ways has encouraged me to spend a bit more time on this site whenever I can.

Warmest regards to all.

Philippine History / 11th Wedding Anniversary
October 01, 2007, 03:34:49 PM
I blog this to mark my marital bliss with Lucille, a journey we embarked on September 23 eleven years ago. With three beautiful children we playfully named after our favorite vegetables, Carotz who is 9; Cabbage, 7 and Brocolli, 4; life, indeed, is worth living and sharing.

The celebration was a simple, low-key, private affair and just for two of us love birds flying out together to strengthen our vows.

Arriving in Manila on Sept. 22 via an afternoon Cebu Pacific flight from Tagbilaran, we checked in at the UCCP Shalom Center in Malate then headed out to the Mall of Asia. It was my first time, Lucille's second. After savoring a sampler of Thai food, the IMAX giant 6-storey 3D theater was at the top of the agenda. It was my first time, Lucille's third. Then, it was Indonesian food for dinner before heading back to the hotel for the night.

Sunday morning of 23rd September came. It was The Day. Wishing the kids were with us, we called the little tots and hearing their voices was enough to brighten our day even more. The cloudy sky and cool breeze provided a pleasant walk to the UCCP Elinwood Church. The message exhorted us to do the ARK (acts of random kindness/love).

After spending about 3 hours at the nearby Robinson's Place, Lucille and I hurried off to the Cultural Center of the Philippines to catch a 3:00 o'clock showing of "Mulan". From the theater we strolled leisurely about, taking in the skyline of Manila. We would have strolled all the way to The Luneta but then it was about to rain. We hopped into a taxi like high school students sneaking out from class just when the sky released a downpour.

Monday morning started early at 4:00 dawn. I made a final check of the documents we will be bringing. We started dressing up for the event, the opportunity of which came unexpectedly, and for which we have been tirelessly preparing for the past two weeks with fervent prayers. By 6:15 AM, we took the waiting service vehicle and headed for the U.S. Embassy...

I was in a dreamlike state when I pushed the iron gate to let myself out. Lucille followed right behind me. I took her hand. Our footsteps were light feeling unbelievable it was over that soon.

"Should we take a ride here?" Lucille asked. My mind played back how well the interview went. God has paved the path for us. "No," I replied. "Let's take a walk...  Let's relish this moment", I said with a smile.

benelynne,

Welcome to this forum.

I am based in Bohol. Indeed the incidents of robberies and killings in the past few weeks was a shock to all Boholanos. We are just not used to this kind of events happening at close intervals. We still maintain a positive outlook on our peace and order situation. We hope that the capture of the suspected robbery gang members -- a joint effort of the community, media, law enforcers -- sent a strong message that the Boholanos don't take things sitting down, nor do we cower in fear in the face of the rampage of those criminal elements. As it is said, eternal vigilance is the price of freedom... so must we all continue to be vigilant to protect our peace.

About improving your kids English communication skill, I suggest you try "Barney" the purple dinosaur. I'm sure there are vcds or dvds available there. There are many volumes to choose from.

The sad reality is that the present airport in Tagbilaran has no more room for expansion due to area limitation. The runway can no longer be extended to accommodate larger aircarfts.

Location wise, an airport at the heart of the city is not advisable. The risk factor is just too great.

Proactive planning is needed. According to Sec. Mendoza, The entire Southeast Asia including Japan, China and Korea will adopt open sky by 2015. Bohol's new airport should be able to accommodate these aircrafts from other major airlines, otherwise, our province will be left behind.

There has been no mention that the Panglao Bohol International Airport will be constructed through Build Operate and Transfer (BOT). The fund for the construction will be provided by the government itself, not from a private investor or lending institution.

The latest development as of August 17, 2007 is that GM Al Cusi said, "The money is in the vault".  It is noted that the news that PAL will pay MIAA in monthly installments for 7 years is dated November 2006 yet. Perhaps there were already positive developments in the interim.

Macky,

That makes you 5 years older than us (obvious, isn't it :) ). Yeah, we all missed those days when we were in high school. Life was much simpler then. And fun.

But we all have to grow up and do our part in this world -- either the easier part of creating the problem, or the harder part of solving it.

#186
Boss Ed,

I appreciate your insight. Me, I am always the optimistic kind...  Funds will be available to complete the project, di ba?

Olin,

The airport will cover the barangays of Danao, Tawala, Bolod and Lourdes at an orientation of 30 degrees North. This has been adjusted from the original orientation so that the aircarft approach will not pass over the resorts at Alona.

Thanks for your inetesting discussions and childhood memoirs about Peanut Kisses :)

I earned my first "salary" in the summer before I entered the third grade working for one week at the old Peanut Kissess factory at my grandma's house at Booy. Dipping my tiny fingers into a cup of water, I then started to delicately mold the lumps into hill-shape forms. My grandma was there, too, molding the lumps into shape together with the workers as a drama story blared  loudly from a transistor radio.

Yes, there is a slight change of the Peanut Kisses taste -- for healthier reason. Less sweetness to meet the international market's taste.

Bucarez, the corporation that manufactures of Peanut Kisses, means BUtalid CArolina alvaREZ, in honor of my lola who developed the delicacy during the second world war and perfected it in the 1960s. Bucarez is now part of the Alturas Group of Companies which owns the majority of the shareholdings.

Capitan Berong,

I am optimistic that funding will be available for the civil works for the runway, terminal building,  navigational equipment and other peripherals for the Panglao Bohol International Airport Development Project.

If PAL's payment to MIAA will not be made in lump sum but by installment, I'm sure the government can find other sources to meet the financial requirement.

The start of the civil works for the airport is crucial because many investors are waiting for this to happen before they will start their own development.
