By the way unsa diay na model na camera nmo? Not clear on the question. Are you talking about the focusing points on the range finder or AF illuminator (this emmit a tiny light on a subject to measure read outs within the scene)

If you're shooting wildlife, when you're composing the image, don't frame it so close that the animal has nowhere to go. In other words, give the animal some space in front of the direction it's going for a much stronger composition one that tells a story. If you crop in too tight and don't leave room for the animal to exit the frame, it's almost like trapping them in your shot, and the photo will look uncomfortable to the viewer. When you're composing in the viewfinder, leave some extra space to "run" in front of your subject, and your photo will be that much stronger for it.

Bonus - behind the lens

With sports or action photography, most of the time you're going to want to stop the action, and to do that you'll have to switch to shutter priority mode (or manual mode if you're comfortable with it), and then shoot at a speed of at least 1/640 of a second (or faster) to stop the motion and keep your image sharp. The slowest you can generally get away with is 1/500 of a second. Go with 1/640 or higher for better results (there are times when you're going to intentionally want to shoot at slower speeds so you can blur parts of the photo to exaggerate the movement and speed, but for most situations, you'll want to freeze the motion with a faster shutter speed like we're using here).

About Portrait Photography 101

There are not many aspects of photography that have a specific focal length you should try to shoot with, but luckily portrait photography is one of them. Most pros shoot portraits with a short zoom lens, and one of their favorite focal lengths is the 85-100mm range. In fact, telephoto lenses in the 85-100mm range are often called portrait lenses because they let you shoot from a good working distance (10 to 12 feet from your subject, giving you and your subject some breathing room, while letting you still fill the frame with your subject), but more importantly, shooting with focal lengths between 85mm and 100mm eliminates the unflattering facial distortion wide-angle lenses are notorious for, while avoiding the compression long telephoto lenses give. Some portrait pros swear that the 85mm focal length is the portrait sweet spot, and others swear by 100mm, but that's the kind of thing pros debate in online forums all day long (and you can try both with your zoom lens and choose the one you like best, because they both give a pleasing perspective for portraits). Another reason these short zoom lenses are ideal is because you won't have to pick up your tripod and move it (or your model) each time you need to slightly recompose the shot. So, get yourself a zoom lens that covers the 85-100mm range, and you're good to go.

Ms da binsi ug Nikon,

got a D40. What do you reccommend as a nice lens that could give me the best perception of the DOF? or what remote strobe would you reccommend i buy? Please?

Hmmm.. here's my D40 before...

My Cute D40

Lock and Load Mode

Dli akoa lens, just borrowed it from a friend of mine. Well kung naa gyud ka wawart kini na setup nindot ug bokeh.

But I would suggest getting a Nikkor 18-200mm VR, basically cover na nmo most focal lengths and  a Sb-600 would be a starter strobe. Ang D40 is equipped with a commander na pwede nmo ma-gamit with the Sb-600. If you would shoot low light I would suggest  getting a 50mm 1.4G, kay ang 50mm1.4D dli mo fucos sa D40 kay wala man sya motor mechanism sa body.

There are third party lenses that gives you similar results but mas cheaper. There are considerations that affect DOF, one is the lens and the distance of your subject. Google lang about it.. :D

Again don't worry about your hardware focus on your skills una. And keep on shooting kay free man ang pixels...hehehehe

Be carefully cropping certain parts of the subject. Like the leaf on the bottom  ;D

Lighting is just soooo perfect! enough so i could see the detail of her French Nails! karon pa jud ko nag tan-aw sa picture ni Kate Hudson diri with that same kind of lighting...

heheh, dli tawn...and she is so young to be my GF (she's is 18), post post lang ko sa onemodelplace.com and she msg me to do a TFCD for her port. Bali akong gamit is Sb800 with shoot thru umbrella and one source lighting camera left lang na. The good thing about sa Nikon CLS kay built-in na man gud ang triggering system niya. Not sure sa canon pero what I know you have to buy the IR trigger para gamiton nmo ug trigger, tama ba? Naa man ka 580EX dba? Kaya na nmo oi...hehehe

Murag barato ra man ang shoot thru umbrella. The one I use is AUD$12.00, pero daghan siguro mapalit sa agora oi or sa mga shopping centers dha. Heheh, kasuway na gyud ko ug mga DIY lighting setup. Kasuway man gani ko kurtina lang akong gamiton as diffuser.

Not sure what was the reason but they say having an electric car would jeopardize the US Government's revenues. Kay murag majority sa revenue US government at that time and now is in OIL.

hmmm... I dont know the real story but libel cases murag bug-at na ni dah.

I agree with kiamoy dli lang pikon ba. Ug for me and most forums i have been thru I believe good ethics is still a must. I am new to this forum site and I believe in seniority when it comes to posting(dli nako pasabot ang age ha..heheheh).

But when I believe there is something wrong I would rather PM him/her instead posting it in a thread which is appropriate in my opinion. I would also expect be done the same on me when I make a mistake or I made a wrong post.

Cause I was brought up na dli gyud kasab-an sa atubangan sa mga tao, my dad would bring me sa daplin ug istorya-an. Murag "makasala ka now, latos later ok" heheheh  ;D ;D

I believe most of us can distinguish personal attacks from constructive criticisms. Depende ra siguro kung unsaon nmo pag-approach. :D

here's a candid shot using my ordinary digital camera

any suggestions to improve the shot?

My approach would be a tighter crop cause of the eye contact, i would give emphasis on the eyes cause of the joy within it. Tama sad na you should consider right composition but again its subjective not all can be included in rules of thirds. Again photography is also breaking the rules.

My processing approach would be subtle cause I want to retain the sense of candidness within the image and I would also darken the surrounding areas of the image making the viewers draw focus within the eyes and facial expression.

I hope you don't mind.

Technology / Re: Tips on buying a digital camera
January 29, 2009, 06:38:23 AM
Some additional Tips

Think about your need.
     - When buying a cam think about what you need it for. There are three types of digital cam in the market today. Point and Shoot, Pro-sumers, DSLR

P&S or (point and shoot) which is just point and shoot, kung dli ka nahan daghan og kuting-ting about sa settings and you want it to be light ug madala-dala lang this is a cam for you.

Pro-sumer cams have better image quality and can have more optical zoom. Mas dako ni siya compared to P&S but not as bulky as a DSLR's. It give you power to override the settings and a little bit of tweaking to take good images. Mahal ni gamay tungod pod sa daghan sa mga features ani.

DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera have superb image quality and gives you the power to be creative. The most unique feature of a DSLR is if ganahan ka i-blur(bokeh) ang background and just focus on your subject mas dali buhaton sa DSLR and you can vary your optical zoom tungod sa interchangeable lens capability ani(only lenses that are compatible sa camera body). The only draw back is mahal gyud ni and you need to buy a particular lens for your particular photography subject. Bulky ni gamay pero it gives you superb results that a P&S and  Prosumer can't give.

But anyway karon with technology booming, you can buy smaller P&S with a features of a prosumer. Prosumer have greater optical zooms and a little smaller now. There are cheaper DSLR which are the same sizes of a prosumers. It all depends on how much you would spend.

These are some tips and will add more.. :D

Iam proud BIT Mech Engineering Graduate. Hhehehe, now im in Australia working as a CAD Engineer. The way I see it most companies in other countries don't mind which schools you were studying, as long you have a good credentials and good character you will get the job. Cheers people. :D

mas dako og kita ang lan games kaysa magchat og browse
and also pwede man isumbong if naay cafe sa Tagbilaran
nga nagpasulod og elementary og high schools students
within class hours sigurado ma raid jud na

Bitaw, I believe murag 70% sa income sa cafe is gkan sa lan gaming. Well its up to the discretion sa cafe owners na lang gyud.

Hahha, nag-kawise pud mga HS students ron. Kay mag ilis ug uniform or balon daan ug sanina usa musolod sa Cafe. Mao na lusot japon. :D

I think banning student in cafes will not help. To be honest internet is a technological breakthrough and Cafe's in most municipalities bridges the gap between local and worldwide information. Imagine sauna iskwela pa ko mautas nalang ko ug pangita og info sa amo school library and hubakon nalang tawn ko ug mga abog na books na karaan na kaayo. Karon pwede na nmo ma-access millions of library in the world with a few cliks lang. Internet has its benefits, I was watching my nephew a grade 6 updating his friendster site. Kuyawan ko kay mas nindot pa iyang site kontra sa akoang friendster..heheh, what im pointing out is that the development of his creativity is impressive which i believe is not taught in school nowadays. Internet is good medium of learning. Mao siguro mag-cutting mga students kay boringan sila sa ilang maestra mo-tudlo..(joke lang)

Instead of banning the users, the cafe owners should limit the amount of service that they provide. Usually pataka lang gud ang owners (dli tanan) ug tukod ug mga cafe's na wala no how to setup sa ilang workstation basta lang makakwarta.

Cafe owners should implement like:
1. No Lan games!!
2. Limit access to Chat!!
3. Implement parental control on there browsers and servers. Daghan na man ron mga software's na mo-prevent to access sa mga unwanted sites.

Municipalities should also do random checks if these cafe establishment are implementing the law.

With technological advance ron mostly the generation of this age are fast growing techcy savy. And parents should also guide their kids and be involve to technology as well.

IMHO lang po...heheheh...
