Anonang, BOHOL â€" Right after the October 15 earthquake that laid waste to much of Bohol, residents of this remote northern barangay noticed a long earthen wall that suddenly appeared in their community.

A team of state volcanologists confirmed Monday night that the newly formed natural structure represents a previously unknown fault that triggered the magnitude 7.2 earthquake.

“When we saw it, eureka! This is it,” said Dr. Teresito Bacolcol, the scientist who led the Phivolcs team on Monday to check out sightings of the lengthy earthen wall, which turned out to be the “face” of a fault that currently does not exist on the active fault map of the Philippines.

@ Bran, Lorenzo you should check this out!!
The lyrics are so uplifting!!:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIECVb9zkM0

Searching for a day, a simple life
Among the clouds, the sky is blue
Water, stars falling around at night

My dream, your dream
Dreams come true,
Trying hard

Always follow what's in your heart
Always listen to what's inside
Always fly high & don't come down
And don't come (down)

Don't push yourself far over the limit
Push your mind ahead with your spirit
Push it to where you never thought you
could go right
And never come down

You run away from a very stressing life
And take some time to think of you
Try to change the color of your life

My dream, your dream
Dreams come true,
Trying hard

Always follow what's in your heart
Always listen to what's inside
Always fly high & don't come down
And don't come (down)

Don't push yourself far over the limit
Push your mind ahead with your spirit
Push it to where you never thought you
could go right
And never come down

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. â€" A neighbor said the Tyler Hadley she knew was the one who played basketball in the driveway with his dad â€" not the one accused of bludgeoning his parents to death with a hammer and then throwing a party while their bodies lay hidden in the master bedroom.

Police said dozens of people attended the party advertised on Facebook, apparently unaware of the bloody scene locked away in the house.

Manila (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN) - The crime was described as "the rape of the ocean."

Poachers decimated an entire "reef complex"--almost twice as big as Manila--off the coast of Cotabato province when they harvested more than 21,000 pieces of black coral and killed 161 endangered turtles and other marine life, officials said.

One of the turtles killed was a male aged 80 to 100 years old.

Bureau of Customs officials intercepted the contraband two weeks ago and recovered 134 bundles, or 21,169 pieces, of "sea fan" black corals and 15 bundles, or 196 kilograms, of "sea whip" black corals.

"The Moro Gulf and the Sulu Sea off Cotabato are supposed to be unexplored reef areas but with this collection, we can see that they have also been disturbed," said Ludivina Labe, a senior marine biologist of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

"It's like a forest that has been cut down," Labe said. "One reef complex was decimated."

Labe spoke with reporters during the turnover of the seized black corals, dead sea turtles and 7,300 pieces of sea shells to officials of BFAR and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources at the port of Manila.

2 container vans

Customs Police Director Nestorio Gualberto said wildlife trader Exequiel Navarro, consignee of the contraband, appeared at his office on Tuesday and indicated that he was prepared to identify the financier of the project and the people who harvested the corals.

Gualberto said the contraband was concealed in two container vans and declared as rubber.

Only two or three colonies of black corals-each represented by a piece of black coral-are found in one hectare of sea bed, Labe explained.

With 21,169 black coral pieces recovered, this could mean that the area harvested could be as big as 7,000 hectares, or an area almost twice the size of the city of Manila.

"These web-like colonial organisms are not lush or bushy. They're found on reef walls or reef slopes. One piece is equal to one colony," Labe said.

"One piece of black coral is not just one organism. There are thousands of other organisms who live there," she added.

35m-peso contraband

Theresa Mundita Lim, director of the DENR-Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau, said one of the turtles killed measured 40 inches and was aged "80 to 100 years old."

"There were also small ones who were only juveniles or just 4 years old," Lim said.

"This is saddening because we have reduced this illegal trade and now we catch something as big as this," she added.

Environment officials said some of the contraband could be given to marine biology schools while the black coral, although already dead, could be returned later to the sea.

Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez said the seized goods had a market value of "at least 35 million pesos (US$804,000)."

The World Wildlife Fund estimates that the "economic cost over a 25-year period of destroying one kilometer of coral reef is somewhere" between $137,000 and $1,200,000.

"It took 25 years or even more for these corals to grow like this. They grow only one centimeter a month," Labe said.

Exotic jewelry

The Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora has banned the harvesting of black coral but the practice continues.

"(The illicit trade) is being fueled by the demand of the multibillion-dollar marine ornamental industry for exotic decorative species and the increasing popularity of coral-accented jewelry and fashion accessories," Alvarez said.

"While the Bureau of Customs does not have the means to serve as a first line of defense against the so-called plunderers of the marine ecosystem, we are determined to play the role of a deterrent by making it unprofitable for illegal wildlife traders to move their prohibited cargoes through our air and sea ports," he said.

"Nobody should profit from the rape of the ocean," Alvarez added.

The Fisheries Code of 1998, which bans gathering and selling corals, punishes violators with imprisonment from six months to two years and a fine from 2,000 pesos ($46) to 20,000 pesos ($459).

Health and Food / Avoid slimming tea with Senna leaves
October 14, 2010, 02:45:52 AM
Many people drink tea made from Senna leaves because they believe it speeds up their metabolism for weight loss purposes. The Senna, in fact, is causing you to lose water weight because of the constant and powerful diarrhea. Dehydration is not far behind and the teas are also quite addictive. You may soon find yourself unable to have a bowel movement without taking more Senna and then your body has effectively stopped working on its own.

Another reason many people use Senna leaf is for colon cleansing. Senna leaf is absolutely not recommended for this! It can be confusing when someone spends a lot of time in the bathroom due to the diarrhea and you tell them they’re not really cleansing their colon after all. You see so much “product” coming out from the Senna so you think it’s effective, but you have to understand-forcing you to have a harsh bowel movement isn’t cleansing your colon out at all because it addresses the symptom (the waste) not the underlying condition (the weakened colon). Senna just gives you diarrhea and dehydrates your body in the process.

Cleansing your colon is a great idea but to do it right, you need to use a product designed specifically with that goal in mind. Senna leaf stimulates the colon like a drug. It doesn’t cleanse anything.

Asia | Middle East / 9 Days in Traffic Jam... Kaya?!!!
August 23, 2010, 09:46:52 PM
(CNN) -- Think you had a hellish commute this morning? Just be thankful you're not in China, where a traffic jam stretching more than 100 km (62 miles) has forced drivers to keep their feet planted on brake pedals for nine days.

The gridlock, which started August 14, involves thousands of trucks between the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and the Chinese capital of Beijing, according to state media.

Fender-benders and broken-down vehicles are adding to the chaos, state media reported.

Some drivers played cards to pass the time, while others fumed about nearby vendors taking advantage of their predicament by gouging food prices.

Still, some opted to not take detours to avoid farther travel and toll costs.

Traffic congestion is a common problem in China. But construction on a section of the Beijing-Tibet Expressway has forced more traffic to National Expressway 110, which runs roughly parallel.

Roads leading to Beijing are particularly notorious for turning into parking lots.

"If there's no traffic jam in the city, that would be news," Niu Fengrui, director of the Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told state media.

Screaming Tunnel The worlds scariest legends on some placeThe Screaming Tunnel, Warner Road

A local legend recounts that the tunnel is haunted by the ghost of a young girl, who after escaping a nearby burning farm building with her clothing ablaze, died within its walls. Several variants of the legend exist locally, one version has the girl set on fire by her enraged father after he loses custody of his children after a nasty divorce. Another tells of a young girl being raped inside the tunnel and her body burned to prevent any evidence from being found.  All variants involve a claim that a match struck within the tunnel’s recesses will produce the sound of the young girl’s dying screams, this purported phenomena is alleged to be the origin of the tunnel’s name.

bridge The worlds scariest legends on some placeBessie Little Bridge,  Dayton

The ghost of a murdered girl named Bessie Little returns regularly to this bridge on Ridge Street. She was murdered there on August 27, 1896, by her boyfriend, Albert J. Frantz.

Bessie was pregnant and Albert didn’t want to have to marry her, so he shot her in the head and arranged the scene to suggest a suicide. For some reason, however, he shot her twice, so it was obvious that she hadn’t done it to herself.

On November 19, 1897, Albert J. Frantz #28896 was strapped into the electric chair at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus and put to death for first degree murder. Back in Montgomery County, Bessie Little’s ghost continues to haunt the bridge.

Ohio University The worlds scariest legends on some place

Ohio University,  America

Wilson Hall, famous for a girl (a supposed witch)who killed herself moments after writing satanic and supernatural things on the wall in her own blood. The five cemetaries that form a pentagram that surrounds the campus, with the administrative building being in the center of the devil’s sign. Washington Hall, which is famous for housing a team of basketball players who all died in a terrible crashm their ghosts still haunt the hall, and you can sometimes hear them dribbling. The catacombs of Jefferson Hall, where numerous ghost sightings have occurred. And finally, for The Ridges, an abandoned insane asylum that was known for thousands of labotamies and electro shock treatments. Also, a patient who disappeared, and was found five weeks later, her body decomposed onto the floor and left a stain that outlines her body. This stain can still be seen today.

Kelly Road, Ohioville, Pennsylvania

A one-mile section of Kelly Road, Ohioville, Pennsylvania is an area that has had numerous reports of paranormal activity and bizarre happenings. Reports say that when animals have entered this haunted stretch of road they suddenly turn from peaceful and quiet to violent, going after other animals and even people. The road is surrounded by dark, thick and creepy forest where white apparitions and noises that can’t be explained have been seen and heard. No one is quite sure why this short section of road is haunted but theories suggest that is could be somehow connected to cult activity that was once taking place in the area and curses that have been put on the land for some reason.

Alcatraz Prison, San Francisco

The island, believed to be an evil place by Native Americans, has seen centuries of death from accidents, murders, and suicides. With this dark history, it’s no wonder Alcatraz is said to be one of the most haunted places in the nation. If ghosts return to haunt the places where they suffered traumatic experiences when they were alive, then Alcatraz must be bursting at the seams with spirits. For years there have been reports of mysterious happenings on Alcatraz Island. These reports come from visitors, former guards, former prisoners, and national park service employees. From the original lighthouse reappearing on occasion to clanging, screaming, and sobbing, there are too many tales to put into this short article. It would definitely take a book to tell them all. Some of the strange occurences are recounted in the following paragraphs. The Lighthouse â€" There have been several reports that on foggy nights the old lighthouse, built in 1854 and torn down after it was damaged in the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake, will suddenly appear, accompanied by an eerie whistling sound and a flashing green light that makes its way slowly around the island and then vanishes as suddenly as it appears.

edinburgh castle The worlds scariest legends on some placeEdinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

This magnificent castle is typically medieval, perched atop a rocky crag, giving it an amazing vista of  Scottish hills. But inside the empty halls and narrow streets of Edinburgh, there are the echoes of the dead. At least, that’s what has been reported. Hot spots for specters include the castle’s prison cells, the South Bridge vaults and Mary’s King Close, a disused street used to quarantine and eventually entomb victims of the plague. There are also reports of ghost dogs, a headless drummer, and the bodies of prisoners taken during the French seven-year war and the American War of Independence.

Discovering A New Earth 430 Light Years Away

It took billions of years and the perfect conditions for our Earth to grow and form. Now, those same conditions can be seen in space, shaping a similar planet. Ivanhoe explains this exciting space discovery.

Far, far away, something amazing is brewing in space. Swirling around a giant star similar to our sun, astrophysicists have spotted the very early stages of a planet taking shape.

"What we think we're seeing is the actual formation of a planet -- terrestrial planet -- a rocky planet like the Earth, around the star," Carey Lisse, Ph.D., a senior research scientist at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., told Ivanhoe.

PORT-AU-PRINCEâ€"Musician Wyclef Jean jetted into Haiti on a private plane Thursday and officially launched a bid for president, ending weeks of speculation about whether he would run.

A crowd of young supporters sporting red and white t-shirts gathered in the Demas neighborhood of the capital to escort Jean as he filed his documents at the electoral council office.

He was also joined by several advisors and his wife and daughter.

Jean's bid for the presidency of quake-hit Haiti has won support from some in the impoverished nation, where many hail him as a hero, but has also drawn sneers from politicians skeptical of a hip-hop star in the national palace.

The Haitian-born Grammy award winner was expected to announce his campaign on CNN's "Larry King Live" show later Thursday, after resigning as chairman of his NGO Yele Haiti.

Philippine Provinces / Plastics Used as Legal Tender
August 03, 2010, 09:37:22 PM
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippinesâ€"In Tabon-tabon, a poor town in Leyte, if it’s plastic, it’s legal tender.

The town’s government started accepting plastics as payment for services, food or as barter item for financial aid in a bid to promote its recycling campaign.

Rustico Balderian, mayor of the fifth class municipality about 30 km south of here, said the town government started accepting clean plastic materials in March 2009 as payment for services from the municipal government.

Plastics such as bottles, sachets, broken parts of chairs and others are accepted as payment by the town.

If a resident has a kilogram of clean plastic materials, he could exchange this with medicines or a kilogram of rice.

Licenses, permits

Plastics, according to the mayor, are also accepted as payment for marriage licenses or business permits. Residents needing an ambulance may pay for the service with a kilogram of plastic. The use of an ambulance would otherwise cost a resident P300 for its fuel load.

The municipal government, according to Balderian, also dropped its program of dole to poor residents.

Now, any resident in need of cash may bring used plastic for cash. A kilogram of used plastic would fetch P300; 2 kg, P500; and 3 kg, P1,000.

Balderian recalled that the scheme was used in the recent boxing match of Manny Pacquiao. Residents who wanted to see the live broadcast of the fight were asked to pay in used plasticsâ€"2 kg for front seats and 1 kg for other seats.

The mayor said the recycling program worked wonders as residents learned to segregate plastics from their daily trash.

He said it also weaned away some residents from resorting to stealing during lean monthsâ€"July to Augustâ€"when there’s no work to do in the farms as harvests are over.

Plastic savings

Husbands who have pregnant wives start saving early clean plastic materials so they would not pay in cash for the diesel of the ambulance.

As in all programs, however, there’s a downside to Balderian’s recycling campaign.

“There is now a shortage of plastic materials in town,” Balderian said in an interview Sunday in his hometown.

The used plastics are turned into bags, slippers, bricks and tiles that are sold in markets outside town.

“This provides income to the municipality and jobs to some of our people,” said the mayor.

Workers in three-wheeled vehicles, known in the town as “pogpog,” collect the used plastics.

They are brought to a facility in the town that has a shredder, a boiler and a bioreactor (some sort of a machine) that process garbage, including the used plastic.

Aside from making recycled products, the town also produces fertilizer from organic trash that it sells for P5 per kg.

Balderian said he presented his town’s solid waste management program at the “Zero Basura” caravan held in this city last week and was attended by town mayors in the region.

“Many of them want to replicate it in their towns,” he said. Vicente Labro, Inquirer Visayas

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said on Friday that it will spend P200 million for the immediate renovation of the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park, Manila where President-elect Noynoy Aquino will hold his inauguration on June 30.

DPWH Undersecretary Romeo Momo, who is in charge of Luzon operations, said that the amount covers the retrofitting and repainting of the building together with the repair works on the structure's canopy, floor and concrete slab, and girder.

“We would also hang a presidential seal, put red carpet on the floor and set up the monobloc chairs in the grandstand,” said Momo, when asked about DPWH preparations for the oath-taking ceremonies.

He added that the carbon fiber, a material which is seven times stronger than steel, had arrived from abroad and it would be used to strengthen the structure.

As construction crew members made their way through the midday sun at the grandstand last Friday, siblings of the next president checked the ongoing renovation of the structure.

Present were the Aquino sisters namely Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Pinky Aquino Abellada, and TV host and actress Kris Aquino. They were joined by the Makati Mayor JunJun Binay Jr. who represented his father Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay during the inspection.

This is the second time Public Works officials and the camp of Aquino inspected the grandstand this week and they will make a final walk through on June 28 or June 29 when its renovation is completed.

During the event, Aquino's youngest sister said that the Madrigal singers would sing the national anthem. Pop singers Charice Pempengco and Arnel Pineda have been invited to perform at the inaugural.

Plumb - Worlds Collide: A Fairy Tale

We never talked about it
Cause you never even cared
And what you really wanted

Cause what may seem right
And what may be wrong
Seems out of sight
In this place we belong
Giving everything

Giving everything for love
I'm finding out that its not enough
Theres nothing left between you and I
I'm finding faith but losing us (I'm losing us)
When worlds collide

Together we seem perfect
A fairy tale for sure
And looking on the outside
You'd never even know
We're just not right
When compromise is wrong
Seems out of sight
In this place we belong
Giving everything

Giving everything for love
I'm finding out that its not enough
Theres nothing left between you and I

WASHINGTON DC, United Statesâ€"A US-based study on Monday linked eating white rice to higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and backed long-held claims that brown rice is healthier than the white variety.

People who ate at least five servings of white rice per week had a 17 percent greater risk of developing diabetes than those who consumed less than one serving per month, Harvard School of Public Health scientists found.

How Bad Are Your Health Vices?

Cigarettes: Regrettable

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women. It turns out that the 4,000 chemicals in tobacco appear to be even more lethal when ingested by women than by men.

Lung damage from emphysema or bronchitis can't be reversed, but your cardiovascular system can bounce back. "Within 24 hours of stopping smoking, there is improvement in the function of the blood vessels. After 1 year, there's a 50% reduction in the risk of having a heart attack," says Sharonne Hayes, MD, director of the Women's Heart Clinic at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Thirty minutes of exercise a day will speed the return to normal heart function.

Although everyone should eat at least 5 to 7 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, ex-smokers should consider making one or two of those servings strawberries or black or red raspberries, which may prevent the onset of esophageal cancer, according to research at Ohio State University. Getting one to two times the daily value of folate (found in whole grains and greens) and B12 (in meat and dairy products) can reduce cell damage that may lead to cancer.

Pot: Regrettable

Sorry, Cheech, but scientists have determined that this habit is as unwholesome as tobacco.

"We used to think that marijuana was safe, but it contains many of the same cancer-producing chemicals as cigarette smoke and has the same health-harming effects," says Diane Stover, MD, chief of pulmonary service at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Ex-tokers would be wise to follow the same advice given above for ex-smokers.

Too Much Coffee: Forgettable

Don't worry too much if you can't stop jonesing for java.

"There's no proven link between caffeine and heart disease or cancer as long as you stay under six cups of coffee per day," says C. Noel Bairey Merz, MD, director of the preventive and rehabilitative cardiac center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Even better, long-term coffee consumption may reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes. And an alkaloid in coffee may prevent cavities. However, more than 300 mg of caffeine a day combined with insufficient calcium could contribute to bone loss, so coffee, tea, and cola drinkers should compensate with a calcium supplement. The final word on caffeine from one bone-health and nutrition expert: "Stick to two cups a day, and add milk for the calcium," advises Jasminka Ilich-Ernst, PhD, an associate professor of nutrition at Florida State University.

Sunburns: Regrettable

Although dermatologists know that ultraviolet (UV) radiation alters DNA, which can eventually cause cancer, they don't know how much UV exposure it takes to cause DNA damage.

They also can't say for sure who will get cancer, or how soon after a blistering burn cancer could develop. All the more reason for former sun worshippers to follow this four-point plan: 1) See a dermatologist every year for a skin cancer screening. 2) Wear SPF 15 sunscreen every day; use 30-plus when spending time outside. 3) Avoid being outdoors between 10 AM and 4 PM. 4) Try to cover yourself with a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and a broad-rimmed hat if you must be in the sun.

Loud Concerts: Regrettable

If you spent college weekends swaying to live Grateful Dead jams, don't blame your ringing ears and hearing loss on age.

One-third of the 28 million Americans with hearing loss can attribute the problem to noise exposure, according to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Loud sounds destroy the ear's sensory nerve cells, sometimes so gradually that you don't even notice it. Although you can't repair this damage, you can preserve what you have left. The golden rule: "If you're in a noisy room where you have to raise your voice to be heard by someone 3 feet away, then it's too loud," says Greg Flamme, PhD, an assistant professor in the department of speech pathology and audiology at Western Michigan University. Also, play your iPod on the lowest volume that's audible to protect against further damage. And if you return to the concert arena or climb onto the back of a roaring motorcycle, please do so sporting protective earmuffs or musicians' earplugs.

Fast Food: Forgivable

Studies show that just hours after you've eaten a typical fast-food lunch, fat globules start to obstruct your blood vessels. Continued consumption of these unhealthy meals can trigger heart problems, obesity, and diabetes.

That's not to say that if you enjoyed regular drive-thru meals when your kids were young, you should check in to the hospital now. Much of the damage from a poor diet can be undone. "A general rule: As long as it took for you to get to an unhealthy state, that's about how long it takes to become disease free," says Merz. Research suggests that taking 1,200 IU of vitamin E and 500 mg of vitamin C before an unhealthy meal can help your heart by alleviating fat-induced inflammation. Over the long run, following either a low-fat vegetarian regimen or a Mediterranean diet that's rich in healthy fats, whole grains, and vegetables has been shown to reverse heart disease risk. Getting 30 minutes of aerobic exercise at least three times a week works, too.

"Women who eat a fast-food diet tend to miss out on calcium, which helps build healthy bones, because they don't drink milk," says Judith S. Stern, ScD, RD, a professor of nutrition and internal medicine at the University of California, Davis. Premenopausal women should be vigilant about getting 1,000 mg of calcium per day; older women need 1,200 mg. Weight-bearing exercise, such as walking, hiking, or lifting weights, also boosts bone density, and is a must for former junk-food junkies.

Alcohol: Forgivable

First, be honest about your drinking days: Did you occasionally overdo it on weekends? Or were you a problem drinker who downed up to four drinks a night, several times a week, for an extended period?

The former is repairable, says Robert M. Swift, MD, a professor of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University, because the major organs affected by alcoholâ€"the brain, liver, and pancreasâ€"are fairly resilient. Moderate amounts, about one drink a day for women, may even prevent heart disease and certain cancers and could make you live longer. However, if you put yourself in the latter category, ask your primary care doctor for an ALT (alanine transaminase/aminotransferase) test, which detects liver damage. And make sure you watch your waistline. Scientific research has found that more than four drinks a day predisposes you to belly fat, which can increase your risk of heart disease; the same amount of alcohol can put you at risk of stroke.

Also, be sure to get an annual mammogram. In a study by researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, older women who had consumed two or more drinks a day for 20 yearsâ€"and were still drinkingâ€"had 3 times the risk of getting hormonally sensitive breast cancer than did abstainers. Finally, drinkers should know that one study found that just two drinks a week can raise the risk of certain types of cataracts by 13%, so visit an ophthalmologist every year.

Yo-Yo Dieting: Forgivable

This is generally defined as gaining and losing 10 pounds at least five times in your life.

Though there's no definite evidence that this is harmful, "some studies have suggested it may be," says Sharonne Hayes, MD, director of the Women's Heart Clinic at the Mayo Clinic. One University of Michigan study found that people with a history of yo-yo dieting had reduced blood flow to the heart; another study suggested it may also lead to decreased bone mass. The potential upshot: heart and bone problems after menopause.

However, experts aren't sure whether the yo-yoing itself is the culprit or whether extreme diets lead to nutritional deficiencies that can affect long-term health. To break the cycle, set your sights on a realistic goal and try to maintain that weight. If you must diet, "aim to lose only a pound or two a month and try not to gain 10 pounds over the winter," says Hayes. Get yearly cholesterol and blood pressure checks to detect early signs of heart disease.

Fasting: Forgettable

If you've ever been suckered into a weekend detox fast at one of those high-priced spas where supermodels go to slim down for Fashion Week, relax.

The effects of fasting once or twice a year won't make you illâ€"and you won't lose bone mass the way you might with yo-yo dieting. On the downside, despite the claims, doctors say that fasting won't rid your body of toxins or result in lasting weight loss.

OTC Diet Pills: Forgivable

The FDA continues to recall various OTC diet pills because of health and safety concerns.

Most recently, it pulled the plug on Hydroxycut because of liver injuries (complaints ranged from jaundice and elevated liver enzymes, an indicator of potential liver injury, to liver damage requiring liver transplant). Others may contain untested active pharmaceutical ingredients, including antiseizure meds and diuretics. Yet another substance found in some products (sibutramine) can cause high blood pressure, seizures, tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), palpitations, heart attack, or stroke, or interact with other medications that patients may be taking. A few years ago, the FDA banned ephedra after 16,000 reports of adverse events revealed two deaths, four heart attacks, nine strokes, and one seizure.

If you're concerned about whether you will experience longer-lasting effects from these drugs, ask your doctor. In many cases, the chemicals leave your system quickly so there's less of a long-term damage risk. For example: "Ephedra, like most stimulants, is out of your system after 12 hours," says Shari Midoneck, MD, an internist at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Kabul, Afghanistan -- About 60 schoolgirls in Afghanistan's Balkh province appear to have been poisoned and required hospitalization, the Ministry of Health said Sunday.

The victims ranged in age from 9 to 14. Most suffered minor reactions, ministry spokesman Sakhi Kargan told CNN.

It's at least the third suspected poisoning of girls attending schools in Afghanistan this week.

Nearly 90 people were poisoned in attacks on three schools in April. There have been no known deaths to date in any of the attacks.

The Taliban banned girls from going to school when they ruled Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001.

Since girls' schools began reopening after the Taliban were overthrown, facilities, female students and teachers have been the victims of attacks.

Five Reasons Why It’s Time to Ban the Vuvuzelas

Read more: http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/06/14/five-reasons-why-its-time-to-ban-the-vuvuzelas/soccer-fifa-world-cup-2010-fans/#ixzz0qpa3dg6z

1. TV Viewers Hate Them
As the majority of us aren't fortunate enough to be on the ground in South Africa, the vuvuzela's sheer annoyance during the World Cup broadcast is the primary reason they should go. The horns - blown by ardent supporters in the stands by producing a raspberry sound with their lips - are a droning, persistent whine in the background of every match, sounding like nothing so much as a buzzing swarm of bees. Viewers are so fed up that some have released guides to changing TV audio settings to minimizes the horns.

2. They Can Damage Hearing
Vuvuzelas are also loud. Really loud. A recent study found the horns could produce sound at 127 decibels -- that's more than an air horn (at about 123). There are concerns prolonged exposure could damage the hearing of those in the stadiums or drown out emergency announcements.

3. (Most) Players Hate Them
The French team blamed their 0-0 tie in their opening game against Uruguay in part on the horns. "We can't sleep at night because of the vuvuzelas," said the French captain, Patrice Evra. "People start playing them from 6 a.m." (It's worth noting that the South African team are big proponents of the horns, encouraging fans to play them all the louder during the home team's matches.)

4. Broadcasters Hate Them
Some of the vuvuzela's biggest critics in the World Cup run-up were the broadcasters, who worried that the horns would be a distraction to their ability to call the games. In earlier tournaments, the horns have drowned out the play-by-play calls. That hasn't happened yet in this tournament, in part because ESPN has altered the sound mix of its broadcast to minimize the crowd noise.

5. They Overpower the Other Noise
No one wants soccer to be like tennis, with a crowd sitting in reverent, silent observance. The vuvuzelas may be a tradition, but they're drowning out the other noises of the game: singing, chanting and cheering. Even Danny Jordaan, the World Cup's organizer who has so far refused to ban the horns, admits as much: "I would prefer singing," he said. "It's always been a great generator of a wonderful atmosphere in stadiums. In the days of the struggle [against apartheid] we were singing, all through our history it's our ability to sing that inspired and drove the emotions."

The future of Apple is no longer centered around the Macintosh. You Mac guys just got kicked to the curb, relegated to the steaming dung heap of the past.

The future, for Apple, is all about iPhones and iPads, and, more important, the operating system software that powers themâ€"the sexy new iOS 4, which these days seems to be getting most of Steve’s attention.

History / John Dillinger
June 13, 2010, 11:50:45 PM
John Herbert Dillinger Jr. (June 22, 1903 â€" July 22, 1934) was an American bank robber in the Midwest during the early 1930s. He was considered to be a dangerous criminal who was involved in the deaths of several police officers, robbed at least two dozen banks and four police stations, escaped from jail twice and was idolized by some as a modern-day Robin Hood. The exploits of Dillinger and his gang, along with those of other criminals of the Great Depression such as Bonnie and Clyde and Ma Barker, dominated the attention of the American press and its readers during what is sometimes referred to as the public enemy era (1931â€"1935), a period which led to the development of the modern, more sophisticated Federal Bureau of Investigation.

History / Geronimo
June 13, 2010, 11:49:26 PM
While Geronimo said he was never a chief, he was a military leader. As a Chiricahua Apache, this meant he was one of many people with special spiritual insights and abilities known to Apache people as "Power". Among these were the ability to walk without leaving tracks; the abilities now known as telekinesis and telepathy; and the ability to survive gunshot (rifle/musket, pistol, and shotgun). Geronimo was wounded numerous times by both bullets and buckshot, but survived. Apache men chose to follow him of their own free will, and offered first-hand eye-witness testimony regarding his many "powers". They declared that this was the main reason why so many chose to follow him (he was favored by/protected by "Usen", the Apache high-god). Geronimo's "powers" were considered to be so great that he personally painted the faces of the warriors who followed him to reflect their protective effect. During his career as a war chief, Geronimo was notorious for consistently urging raids and war upon Mexican Provinces and their various towns, and later against American locations across Arizona, New Mexico, and western Texas.

Time To Pretend- Multifandom

I'm feeling rough, I'm feeling raw, I'm in the prime of my life.
Let's make some music, make some money, find some models for wives.
I'll move to Paris, shoot some heroin, and f*** with the stars.
You man the island and the cocaine and the elegant cars.

This is our decision, to live fast and die young.
We've got the vision, now let's have some fun.
Yeah, it's overwhelming, but what else can we do.
Get jobs in offices, and wake up for the morning commute.

Forget about our mothers and our friends
We're fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend

I'll miss the playgrounds and the animals and digging up worms
I'll miss the comfort of my mother and the weight of the world
I'll miss my sister, miss my father, miss my dog and my home
Yeah, I'll miss the boredom and the freedom and the time spent alone.

There's really nothing, nothing we can do
Love must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.
The models will have children, we'll get a divorce
We'll find some more models, everything must run it's course.

We'll choke on our vomit and that will be the end
We were fated to pretend
To pretend
We're fated to pretend
To pretend

Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

there you were staring at me again
i saw, i knew, how all the feeling began
might be thru your eyes that gawked like a vulture
about to slay it's prey in rapture and allure

i noticed your stolen gaze and smiles
your attempts of small talks all the while
a refill of water, a call to settle
an argument within me, you tend to meddle

"still not sleeping? you're such a busy bee"
"let's go home together", you once asked me
are you awake? have you eaten?
all these concerns, never forgotten..

you with your white shirt!
which never had a dirt
hearing your seraphimic voice
to not be captured is the vaguest choice!

dangling keys in every step you take
towards me or away from me gullible with ache
eagerness arised, exciteness reigned
butterflies soar, still snottiness reigned.

i guess you know why i noticed all these
for a thousand times im sure you missed
the way i reacted when you passed me by
you've hit me real good i can't defy

the subtleness of your want
great persuasion of a man
the weakness of my guard
and yes i did surrender in your arms

i love to stare at your face all day.
i love to smell your scent if i may
i did imagine vacations wherever
but to dream and long it'll be forever

waking up with you by my side
"a beautiful wolf!" i couldve cried
twas wrong yet the sweetest
we fought all night but we also loved endless

i won't wish to change everything
im never the type who does some begging
i dared, i risked my own fragility
yet bravely i conquered w/o certainty

i am, i do, i feel so sorry
our love, our times, will BE in memory
thru all that i am, in all of my whole
love burnt my heart like a fire of coal.

Gerald Anderson

In the showbiz world, Gerald Anderson is a heartthrob, a hunky cover boy, and an actor with promising talent to boot. But to his neighbors he is just Gerald, the concerned boy who braved deep floodwaters caused by typhoon Ondoy to check if his neighbors were okay.

Now, if you happen to be a neighbor of Gerald Anderson looking out the window, you may think that the young man was acting out a rescue scene for a telenovela, ready to plunge down in the muddy waters and pull out the leading lady from the depths. But this is reality. There are no lights and cameras and leading ladies, only action and reaction in an unavoidable situation in which lives were at stake. Gerald had to calculate decisions and do what was right.

QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD TURNED DISASTER AREA. Dr. Divina Gracia Rosales-Murao is a neighbor of Gerald in Vista Real Classica, Quezon City. That Saturday morning, the rain that started as a drizzle escalated in a steady downpour that eventually turned the village street into a wide pool. For Dr. Divina, it was something worth worrying about and it was a concern shared by Gerald as well.

She tells PEP thru email, “Even before the water level started to go up, Gerald and his brother Kenneth were already visible, perhaps trying to assess what’s going to happen next. He was still carrying his dog that time.”

She watched the entire scene from her veranda. As one hour passed, the water was already rising at an alarming rate. At about 2 p.m., the water had become level with her house’s ground floorâ€"a scary revelation considering that their street is on higher ground. For Dr. Divina, it was safer to stay put in the veranda. For Gerald and a few male companions, however, theirs was a responsibility they took upon themselves to check on people.

“Gerald and company tied ropes over trees para maging guide nila since the house in front of us is getting more damaged,” describes the doctor. “They really tried to cross the raging waters but it was a little difficult na…they were nowhere in sight na rin since I also have to check on our place.”

Undeterred by the increasing current, Gerald looked for help. Before dark, he arrived with Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani, who live a few blocks away. By this time, the water level was going up but the group managed to scramble up Dr. Divina’s wall to ask if they needed assistance in evacuating.

“Actually we are still okay pa,” said Dr. Divina. “They were asking if we plan to evacuate since they saw we have kids inside the house. Actually mas concern ko was my brother who lives a Queensland Street just a few houses away from director Jun Flores and Jean Garcia.”

As it turned out, that part of the village was more damaged and the current, stronger. Gerald himself told Dr. Divina that they had a hard time getting through. And then they again left for help and returned in an hour, this time with a rescue team who would eventually check on the other homes in need of rescue and food.

THANKFUL FOR HIS INITIATIVE. For the doctor, the celebrity glitz in Gerald that fans see in everyday life was unrecognizable. In its place was a wet, cold and dirty person who chose to disregard personal safety for the assuring knowledge that his neighbors were out of harm’s way.

“I give compliments to Gerald…that he gave his own self, his time, his concerns to check on his neighbors,” Dr. Divine added, “including me and my family. He tried to be the ordinary person he is…just like usâ€"just like everyone else with the humanitarian heart.”

We are very resilient..

While watching the heartbreaking news about Manila's fate yesterday, I can't help but notice our countrymen's smiles and waves to the camera.. And when one is being interviewed, people at the background can't help but wave and cheer to the camera... (especially those lining up to claim their share of the donations..)

What is that?! It somehow lifted my heavy heart.

The good thing about us is that we laugh our problems off. We have so much faith in God..

Bisag nasunog na ang whole barangay, or galutaw ang mga gamit. smile / katawa gahapon..
A man was interviewed on how he sleeps and where he urinates or put his body's waste despite the chest-deep water in his barangay for 3 days already,, he laughingly answered "linalagay sa plastic tapos tinatapon nalang namin sa ilog sir, pero minsan lumulutang..sa pagtolug, naka upo lang.." and his neighbors cheered.. LOL

[Kanye West]
Keep rockin and keep knockin'
Whether you're louis vuittonin it up, or reebokin
You see the hate that they serving on a plater
So what we gon have dessert or disaster?

[Keri Hilson]
I never thought I'd be in love like this
When I look at you my mind goes on a trip
Then you came in and knocked me on my face
Feels like I'm in a race but I already won first place

I never thought I fall for you as hard as I did (as hard as I did, yeah)
You got me thinking about our life, our house and kids (Yeah)
Every morning I look at you and smile
Cause boy you came around and you knocked me down (knocked me down)

[Chorus]
Sometimes love comes around (love comes around, love comes around)
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)

[Ne-Yo]
I never thought I'd hear myself say
Ya'll go ahead
I think I'm gonna to kick it with my girl today
I used to be commander in chief for my pimp ship flying high
Till i met this pretty little missile, who shot me out the sky

Hate to know i'm crashing don't know how it happened
but i know it feels so damn good
Said if i could go back and make it happen faster
don't you know i would baby if i could
Miss independent, to the fullest, the load never too much
she helping me pull it, she shot bullet that ended that life
I swear to you the pimp in me just died tonight
girl sometimes love

Sometimes love comes around (love comes around, love comes around)
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)

[Kanye West]
Tell me now can you make past your caspers
So we could finally fly off into NASA
You was always the cheerleader of my dreams
to seem to only date the head of football teams,
and i was the class clown that always kept you laughing
we were never meant to be, baby we just happened
so please don't mess up the trick,
hey young world, i'm the new slick rick,
they say i move to quick but we can't let this moment past us,
let the hour glass pass right into ashes
let the wind blow the ash right before my glasses
so i wrote this love letter right before my classes
how could a goddess ask someone that's only average, for advice
o-m-g you listen to that bitch?
woah is me, baby this is tragic
cause we had it, we was magic
i was flying, now i'm crashing
this is bad, real bad, michael jackson
now i'm mad, real mad, joe jackson
you should leave your boyfriend now, i'ma ask him

[Keri Hilson]
so you gotta take the good, the bad, happy and the sad
but will you bring the better future then i had in the past
cause i don't want to make the same mistakes i did
i don't wanna fall back on my face again
woah, woah
i'll admit it, i was scared to answer loves call
woah, woah
and if it hits, better make it worth the fall

(When it comes around)

Sometimes love comes around (love comes around, love comes around)
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)
Sometimes love comes around (comes around)
and it knocks you down
just get back up
when it knocks you down (knocks you down)

Won’t see it coming when it happens
but when it happens you’re gonna feel it, let me tell you now
you see when love comes knocks you down

Love Talk / Men Lose Their Minds Speaking To Pretty Women
September 05, 2009, 10:22:06 AM
The research shows men who spend even a few minutes in the company of an attractive woman perform less well in tests designed to measure brain function than those who chat to someone they do not find attractive.

Researchers who carried out the study, published in the Journal of Experimental and Social Psychology, think the reason may be that men use up so much of their brain function or 'cognitive resources' trying to impress beautiful women, they have little left for other tasks.

The findings have implications for the performance of men who flirt with women in the workplace, or even exam results in mixed-sex schools.

Women, however, were not affected by chatting to a handsome man.

This may be simply because men are programmed by evolution to think more about mating opportunities.

Psychologists at Radboud University in The Netherlands carried out the study after one of them was so struck on impressing an attractive woman he had never met before, that he could not remember his address when she asked him where he lived.

Researchers said it was as if he was so keen to make an impression he 'temporarily absorbed most of his cognitive resources.'

To see if other men were affected in the same way, they recruited 40 male heterosexual students.

Each one performed a standard memory test where they had to observe a stream of letters and say, as fast as possible, if each one was the same as the one before last.

The volunteers then spent seven minutes chatting to male or female members of the research team before repeating the test.

The results showed men were slower and less accurate after trying to impress the women. The more they fancied them, the worse their score.

But when the task was repeated with a group of female volunteers, they did not get the same results. Memory scores stayed the same, whether they had chatted to a man or a woman.

In a report on their findings the researchers said: 'We conclude men's cognitive functioning may temporarily decline after an interaction with an attractive woman.'

Psychologist Dr George Fieldman, a member of the British Psychological Society, said the findings reflect the fact that men are programmed to think about ways to pass on their genes.

'When a man meets a pretty woman, he is what we call 'reproductively focused'.

'But a woman also looks for signs of other attributes, such as wealth, youth and kindness. Just the look of the man would be unlikely to have the same effect.'

How To Tips / 13 Things a Burglar Won't Tell You
September 05, 2009, 08:08:55 AM
. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.

3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste … and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.

4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.

5. If it snows while you’re out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.

6. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don’t let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it’s set. That makes it too easy.

7. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroomâ€"and your jewelry. It’s not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

8. It’s raining, you’re fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your doorâ€"understandable. But understand this: I don’t take a day off because of bad weather.

9. I always knock first. If you answer, I’ll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don’t take me up on it.)

10. Do you really think I won’t look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.

11. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms.

12. You're right: I won’t have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me.

13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. If you’re reluctant to leave your TV on while you’re out of town, you can buy a $35 device that works on a timer and simulates the flickering glow of a real television. (Find it at faketv.com.)

DALLAS â€" Thomas McGowan's journey from prison to prosperity is about to culminate in $1.8 million, and he knows just how to spend it: on a house with three bedrooms, stainless steel kitchen appliances and a washer and dryer.

"I'll let my girlfriend pick out the rest," said McGowan, who was exonerated last year based on DNA evidence after spending nearly 23 years in prison for rape and robbery.

He and other exonerees in Texas, which leads the nation in freeing the wrongly convicted, soon will become instant millionaires under a new state law that took effect this week.

Exonerees will get $80,000 for each year they spent behind bars. The compensation also includes lifetime annuity payments that for most of the wrongly convicted are worth between $40,000 and $50,000 a year â€" making it by far the nation's most generous package.

"I'm nervous and excited," said McGowan, 50. "It's something I never had, this amount of money. I didn't have any money â€" period."

His payday for his imprisonment â€" a time he described as "a nightmare," "hell" and "slavery" â€" should come by mid-November after the state's 45-day processing period.

Exonerees also receive an array of social services, including job training, tuition credits and access to medical and dental treatment. Though 27 other states have some form of compensation law for the wrongly convicted, none comes close to offering the social services and money Texas provides.

The annuity payments are especially popular among exonerees, who acknowledge their lack of experience in managing personal finances. A social worker who meets with the exonerees is setting them up with financial advisers and has led discussions alerting them to swindlers.

The annuities are "a way to guarantee these guys ... payments for life as long as they follow the law," said Kevin Glasheen, a Lubbock attorney representing a dozen exonerees.

Two who served about 26 years in prison for rape will receive lump sums of about $2 million apiece. Another, Steven Phillips, who spent about 24 years in prison for sexual assault and burglary, will get about $1.9 million.

The biggest compensation package will likely go to James Woodard, who spent more than 27 years in prison for a 1980 murder that DNA testing later showed he did not commit. He eventually could receive nearly $2.2 million but first needs a writ from the state's Court of Criminal Appeals or a pardon from the governor.

McGowan and the others are among 38 DNA exonerees in Texas, according to the Innocence Project, a New York legal center that specializes in overturning wrongful convictions. Dallas County alone has 21 cases in which a judge overturned guilty verdicts based on DNA evidence, though prosecutors plan to retry one of those.

Charles Chatman, who was wrongly convicted of rape, said the money will allow him some peace of mind after more than 26 years in prison.

"It will bring me some independence," he said. "Other people have had a lot of control over my life."

Chatman and other exonerees already have begun rebuilding their lives. Several plan to start businesses, saying they don't mind working but want to be their own bosses. Others, such as McGowan, don't intend to work and hope to make their money last a lifetime.

Some exonerees have gotten married and another is about to. Phillips is taking college courses. Chatman became a first-time father at 49.

"That's something I never thought I'd be able to do," he said. "No amount of money can replace the time we've lost."

The drumbeat of DNA exonerations caused lawmakers this year to increase the compensation for the wrongly convicted, which had been $50,000 for each year of prison. Glasheen, the attorney, advised his clients to drop their federal civil rights lawsuits and then led the lobbying efforts for the bill.

Besides the lump sum and the monthly annuity payments, the bill includes 120 hours of paid tuition at a public college. It also gives exonerees an additional $25,000 for each year they spent on parole or as registered sex offenders.

No other state has such a provision, according to the Innocence Project.

Exonerees who collected lump sum payments under the old compensation law are ineligible for the new lump sums but will receive the annuities. Whether the money will be subject to taxes remains unsettled, Glasheen said.

The monthly payments are expected to be a lifeline for exonerees such as Wiley Fountain, 53, who received nearly $390,000 in compensation â€" minus federal taxes â€" but squandered it by, as he said, "living large." He ended up homeless, spending his nights in a tattered sleeping bag behind a liquor store.

But after getting help from fellow exonerees and social workers, Fountain now lives in an apartment and soon will have a steady income.

Fountain's story is a cautionary tale for the other exonerees, who meet monthly and lately have been discussing the baggage that comes with the money.

Chatman said he's been approached by "family, friends and strangers, too."

"It takes two or three seconds before they ask me how much money, or when do I get the money," he said. "Everyone has the perfect business venture for you."

Though appropriately wary, the exonerees say they are excited about having money in the bank.

"You're locked up so long and then you get out with nothing," McGowan said. "With this, you might be able to live a normal life, knowing you don't have to worry about being out on the streets

Philippine Daily News / Soldier kills his sergeant
September 05, 2009, 02:26:14 AM

AN ARMY corporal shot dead a staff sergeant inside a military camp yesterday morning after the latter threatened to kill him during an argument.

Staff Sgt. Romeo Mendez, 42, was having his morning coffee when Cpl. Jesusito Bayang, 32, shot him inside the mess hall of the 7th Finance Service Unit at Camp Lapu-Lapu, headquarters of Central Command (Centcom) in Barangay Apas, Cebu City.

For updates from around the country, follow Sun.Star on Twitter

Lt. Col Melchor Tuliao, commander of the unit, heard the gunshots and went to check. He saw Bayang unloading his .45 pistol.

Bayang surrendered to military police, who later turned him over to the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section.

Bully

Bayang accused Mendez of being a bully. He said the latter had a habit of rudely waking them up by pulling out their beddings, hitting their knees or turning off their electric fans.

He said Mendez, the supply sergeant, took joy in doing this even though it wasn’t part of his assignment.

Bayang was charged with murder when he was brought to the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor. He signed a waiver of detention and sought time to answer the complaint.

The shooting happened at around 5:20 a.m. yesterday, according to the Crimes Against Persons Unit of the Cebu City Police Office, where the corporal was turned over.

Bayang, according to the joint affidavit of Private First Class Mark Anthony Lumpas, Rex Embolde and Edgar de los Santos, was sleeping inside their quarters at the 7th Finance Service Unit, where they were bunked together.

Suddenly, they said, Mendez came in and woke all of them up, including Bayang who confronted the sergeant just outside the room. A verbal exchange followed.

Bayang, the witnesses said, came back to the room and got his service sidearm, a .45 pistol, and stepped out again.

In their affidavit, they said that they sensed danger and went out of the building to hear Mendez and Bayang arguing again, and then three successive bursts of gun fire and then two more a few seconds later.

Too early

Bayang, in an interview, said they have to wake up early to clean the surroundings, but he said it was too early to be up at 5:30.

This was not what drove him to shoot Mendez, though. Bayang said he confronted Mendez and told him to treat them properly.

Mendez allegedly threatened him by saying he was not afraid to kill, prompting Bayang to return to his room to get a firearm.

Bayang said returned to the mess hall.

He was already talking about killing and he started to rise from his chair, Bayang told reporters in Cebuano.

It was then that he shot Mendez.

When Tuliao arrived at the scene, he saw Mendez’s body slumped against a green monobloc chair, while Bayang unloaded his gun.

“Punong-puno na ako, sir (I’ve had enough)” were the first words Bayang uttered to his superior.

Bayang said he did not like the way Mendez treated fellow soldiers, as the latter allegedly bullied junior soldiers into waking up and cleaning their surroundings while he went back to sleep.

Technical Sgt. Dionilo Gabutero, a colleague of both officers, said he heard complaints from fellow soldiers about Mendez.

However, he said Bayang and Mendez had argued several times.

Bayang said he and another officer had asked for a transfer to be away from Mendez.

SPO4 Alex Dacua said they will file a murder case against Bayang, saying the elements of premeditation were present.

Dacua cited the number of times Mendez was shot, that the victim was unarmed, and that Bayang returned to his room in the middle of the argument to get a firearm and their history.

Bayang stood about two meters from Mendez, with only a long table to separate them. The five empty shells fired from the .45 pistol were found on the table.

Mendez was hit in the neck, arms and abdomen.

No match

Bayang said he knew he was no match for Mendez in a fistfight, as the latter was taller and bigger.

Bayang also has a limp, after getting shot in an encounter in Com-postela Valley in 2002.

Maj. Wilson Feria, Centcom spokesperson, said they will leave it to the PNP to handle the criminal aspectof the case.

However, Bayang will still have to face administrative charges.

Bayang, a native of Siargao, Surigao del Norte, joined the army nine years ago. He worked as a driver.

Feria said they will continue to remind unit commanders to instill moral discipline in their personnel.

While disagreements are common among units, Feria said commanders should see to it that arguments are threshed out.

He said that fellowships are held once in awhile to iron out grievances among staff members.

Both soldiers reportedly did not have derogatory records.

Feria was saddened by the incident, which happened while the country celebrated National Crime Week.

Weird and Extreme / Honolulu Seeking To Ban 'BO' On Buses
September 03, 2009, 03:39:58 AM
Wed Sep 2, 7:58 am ET
HONOLULU â€" Stinky city bus riders soon could get soaked. The Honolulu City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail for public transit passengers convicted of being too smelly.

The bill will be heard Thursday in committee. It would make it illegal to have "odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system."

It doesn't matter if it's body odor or offensive fumes that emanates from clothes, personal belongings or animals.

Councilmen Rod Tam and Nestor Garcia co-sponsored the anti-odor bill.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii says it is concerned with laws that are inherently vague, which opens the door to discriminatory enforcement based on an officer's individual prejudices.

SHARPES, Fla. â€" A former inmate in Florida was injured while trying to sneak back into jail. Sylvester Jiles suffered severe cuts from barbed wire while trying to climb a 12-foot fence at the Brevard County Detention Center Monday night. The 24-year-old former inmate was released last week from the jail after accepting a plea deal on a manslaughter charge.

He showed up at the jail Monday night and asked to be taken back into custody because he feared family members of his victim would retaliate against him. Jail officials said they couldn't take him in and told him to file a police report.

Instead, he tried to climb over the barbed-wire fence and fell in his attempt.

He remained hospitalized for his injuries Tuesday.

CANTON, Ohio â€" An Ohio judge unhappy with repeated interruptions from a robbery suspect ordered a deputy to put duct tape over the defendant's mouth. Canton Municipal Court Judge Stephen Belden says the taping last Thursday was the best way to restore order at a hearing for 51-year-old Harry Brown of Canton.

Brown complained that his court-appointed attorney wasn't prepared and angered the judge with interruptions. After a warning, the judge told the bailiff to tape Brown's mouth shut.

When the tape was removed, the defendant said the judge wasn't being respectful. The judge ended the hearing and sent the case to a grand jury.

LOS ANGELES, California, United Statesâ€"A deadly wildfire roared out of control above Los Angeles on Monday, killing two firefighters, forcing thousands to flee and threatening a crucial telecommunications facility.

The monster blaze raging in mountains north of the densely populated metropolis had ripped through 105,296 acres (42,612 hectares) of tinder-dry forest and was spreading north, northeast, east, and northwest, authorities said.

An army of more than 3,655 firefighters was battling the blaze in the Angeles National Forest, which remained only five percent contained and sent a giant white mushroom cloud of smoke across the city.

The inferno was lapping Mount Wilson, threatening communications antennas belonging to numerous television and radio stations, cell phone providers, and law enforcement agencies.

A squadron of aircraft, including eight air tankers and 13 helicopters, has been deployed to help bombard the blaze, although vast plumes of smoke were hampering the aerial attack, officials said.

As the fire showed no sign of easing, authorities revised an initial containment estimate of September 8, saying the blaze was now unlikely to be brought under control before September 15.

So far, more than 10,000 people have been evacuated from the fire, which has left two people dead and injured four others, including two people who attempted to ride out the blaze in an outdoor jacuzzi.

At least 53 structuresâ€"homes and cabins alikeâ€"have been destroyed, although that number was expected to grow, the Los Angeles Times reported. The fire broke out on August 26 and the cause remains under investigation.

The two fatalities were firefighters who died south of the town of Acton on Sunday when their vehicle veered off the road and rolled down a mountainside.

The fire was only one of several destructive blazes raging across California.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger toured the scene of a fire in Placer County, northeast of Sacramento that had charred 275 acres (110 hectares) of forest and gutted some 50 homes across the region.

Schwarzenegger urged any residents who received an evacuation order to flee immediately. "I think the key thing is when you hear from law enforcement, anything about evacuation, follow their orders," Schwarzenegger said.

His warning came as officials revealed they were trying to reach five people who ignored an evacuation order in the Los Angeles wildfire.

Los Angeles County Fire Captain Mark Savage told CNN no firefighters would be risked if conditions surrounding the trapped people were too dangerous.

"Our firefighters are watching very closely," Savage said. "If the situation becomes where we can get in there and get them out we will but we certainly won't be endangering firefighters to make a rescue attempt at this point."

Later Monday, one of the five people reportedly trapped denied requesting assistance and said the group was not in danger.

"It's been like this for four days, and if we were in immediate danger, we would get out immediately," Mark Underwood said.

The San Gabriel Valley east of Los Angeles has experienced record heat and low humidity, with temperatures soaring above 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) in the hottest locations.

A key factor in the fires' spread is that the areas most at risk are covered with vegetation that has not experienced fire for several decades, making it more susceptible to the blaze.

California is frequently hit by scorching wildfires due to its dry climate, winds, and recent housing booms that have seen home construction spread rapidly into rural and densely forested areas.

In 2007, the state suffered some of the worst devastation from wildfires in its history that left eight people dead, gutted 2,000 homes, displaced 640,000 people, and caused a billion dollars of damage.

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"It didn’t take long for the opposition Liberal Party to decide on its standard-bearer a month after the death of former President Corazon Aquino.

In talks over the weekend, the late President’s only son, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, told Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, the party president, that he wanted to run for the country’s highest post.

On Tuesday, in a packed news conference at Club Filipino before party stalwarts, Roxas announced he was giving way to Noynoy’s candidacy for president in the May elections.

“Noy has made it clear to me that he wants to carry the torch of leadership. The parting of our beloved President Cory has reawakened a passion among us,” Roxas said, reading from a prepared statement.

“I see this as fuel to bring us to the realization of our dreams: Good will win over evil,” said Roxas, who as early as April had mounted a spirited campaign for the presidency by launching a series of “infomercials.”

“Noynoy and I want to make a difference, but we also know that we need to unite to achieve what we want,” he said.

The 49-year-old Aquino was present at the clubhouse where his mother, widow of assassinated opposition leader Benigno Aquino Jr., was sworn in as president after the Edsa People Power Revolution of February 1986 that ousted the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

“Give this day to Mar,” Aquino told reporters seeking his comment. Noynoy is scheduled to appear at a news conference Wednesday, where he is expected to make his first public comment on Roxas’ decision to withdraw.

Roxas likewise declined to answer reporters’ questions, but it was expected that he will be Noynoy’s candidate for vice president.

KEO is the name of a proposed space time capsule that will be launched in 2010 or 2011. There have been previous spacecrafts carrying time capsules of earth’s existence sent into space but what makes the KEO Satellite different is it will be designed to return back to earth 50,000 years later. The KEO project was conceived in 1994 by French artist-scientist Jean-Marc Philippe. If this ambitious project is realized the KEO will carry a drop of human blood chosen at random encased in a diamond, samples of air, sea water and earth and the DNA of the human genome. The satellite will also carry an astronomical clock, photographs of people of all cultures and an encyclopedia of current human knowledge.

Interesting Fact: The Satellites name is supposed to represent the three most frequently used sounds common to the most widely spoken languages today, K, E and O. Also, every person is invited to write a message addressed to the future inhabitants.

The deadline is December 31, 2009. Messages can be posted here.

Weird and Extreme / Top 10 Bizarre Deaths
August 28, 2009, 08:49:08 AM
Death is a part of every person’s life; in this article we explore ten of the strangest deaths that have occurred in recorded history.

1. Francis Bacon (22 January 1561 â€" 9 April 1626) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Stuffing snow into a chicken

Francis Bacon; statesman, philosopher, creator of the English essay, and advocate for the scientific revolution (he established “The Scientific Method” still used today), was one of very few people to die as a result of one of their own experiments.

In 1625, whilst gazing out the window at a snowy afternoon, Sir Francis Bacon had an epiphany of sorts. Why would snow not work as preservative of meat in much the same way salt is used? Needing to know and unheeding of the weather, Bacon rushed to town to purchase a chicken, brought it home and began the experiment. Standing outside in the snow, he killed the chicken and tried to stuff it with snow. The experiment was a failure; the chicken didn’t freeze, and as a consequence of standing around in the freezing weather, Bacon developed a terminal case of pneumonia. Trying to stave off the inevitable, Bacon roasted and ate the chicken. That too was a failed experiment. He died.

2. Horace Wells (January 21, 1815 â€" January 24, 1848) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Used anesthetics to commit suicide

An American dentist, born in Vermont and educated in Boston, Horace Wells was one of the pioneers in the field of anesthesia. Weary of screaming patients, (it was known to upset him terribly, he often debated leaving the field of dentistry altogether), he was one of the first practitioners to see the value of nitrous oxide or laughing gas as an anesthetic.

After a failed experiment and falling out of favor with the medical community, Wells became a traveling anesthetic salesman and European expert for his former partner, Gardner Quincy Colton. His ‘investigations’ led to a chloroform addiction that would be his down-fall. In 1848, delirious and deranged after a week of self-experimentation, Wells ran into the street and assaulted two prostitutes with sulfuric acid. He was arrested and confined at New York’s infamous Tombs Prison. Recovering from the drug induced psychosis; the true horror of his actions came home to roost. Unable to live with this shame, Wells committed suicide by first inhaling a substantial dose of chloroform and then slitting his femoral artery.

3. Tycho Brahe (December 14, 1546 â€" October 24, 1601) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Didn’t get to the toilet in time

Famous as an alchemist and astronomer, Brahe’s pioneering observations of planetary motion paved the way for Sir Isaac Newton to develop the theory of gravity.

Unfortunately brilliance and common sense do not always go hand in hand, the manner of his death being the case in point. Known to have a weak bladder and knowing that it was very bad form to leave the banquet table before the festivities concluded, Brahe still neglected to relieve himself before dinner. To compound matters, he was known to drink excessively, and this particular banquet was no exception. Too polite to ask to be excused, his bladder strained causing a protracted (11 day), agonizing death. Whether he died of a burst bladder or hyponatremia (low levels of sodium in the blood) or mercury poisoning is now debated.

Note: this is very similar to an event in which a lady died recently in a competition entitled “Hold Your Wee for a Wii”. She died of hyponatremia.

4. Attila the Hun (406 â€" 453) [Britannica]

Manner of death: He got a nosebleed on his wedding night

History’s most brilliant tactician, warlord, and notorious villain, Attila the Hun conquered all of Asia by 450 AD. Using a combination of fierce combat and ruthless assimilation, Mongolia to the very edge of the Russian Empire fell to Attila and his armies.

Known for his frugal eating and drinking habits, Attila must have thought that his own wedding was an occasion to celebrate. Marrying a young girl named Ildico, in 453 AD; he over-indulged in both food and drink. Sometime after retiring for the evening, his nose started to bleed. Too drunk to notice, it continued to bleed, ultimately drowning him in his own blood.

5. Aeschylus [Î'ἰσχύλοÏ,] (525 BC/524 BC â€" 456 BC) [Britannica]

Manner of death: An eagle dropped a tortoise on his head

Considered the founder of tragedy, Aeschylus is the first of the three ancient Greek playwrights whose work still survives. He expanded the characters of a play so that there was conflict between them instead of actors solely interacting with the chorus. Sophocles and Euripides famously followed in his footsteps.

While visiting Gela on the island of Sicily, legend has it that an eagle, mistaking Aeschylus’ bald pate for a stone, dropped a tortoise on his head killing him. Some accounts differ, stating that a stone was dropped on his head, the eagle mistaking his shining crown for an egg. This is not as far-fetched as it seems. The Lammergeier or Bearded Vulture is native to the Mediterranean, and is known to drop bones and tortoises on rocks to break them open.

6. King Adolf Frederick of Sweden (May 14, 1710 â€" February 12, 1771) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Eating too much pudding

Adolph’s Frederick was the titular King of Sweden from 1751 â€" 1771. The omnipotent Riksdag or senate held the reins of power despite Adolphus’ best efforts to wrest it from them.

Another victim of personal excess, Adophus Frederick is known by Swedish children as “the king who ate himself to death”. On February 12, 1771, after partaking of a banquet consisting of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, smoked herring and champagne he moved on to his favorite dessert, Semla, a traditional bun or pastry made from semolina/wheat flour, served in a bowl of hot milk. One or two portions would have been sufficient; 14 servings was excessive. He died shortly thereafter of digestion problems.

7. Grigori Rasputin [Ð"риго́рий ЕÑ,,и́мович Распу́Ñ,ин] (January 22, 1869 â€" December 29, 1916) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Drowning after being poisoned, shot, stabbed, and bludgeoned

The Mad Monk, Grigori Rasputin, was a peasant and mystic healer who found favor with the royal court of Russia by providing relief to Crown Prince Aleksey, a hemophiliac and heir to the throne.

Wielding much influence on the royal court, the unkempt, vulgar, and amazingly resilient Rasputin made many political enemies. He had to go; much easier said than done. The conspirators first tried poison, enough poison to kill a man three times his size, but he seemed unaffected. Next they snuck up behind him and shot him in the head. This should have done it, but no; while one of the assassins was checking his pulse, the mystic grabbed the conspirator by the neck and proceeded to strangle him. Running away, the would-be assassins took up the chase, shooting him 3 times in the process. The gunshots slowed him down enough to allow his pursuers to catch-up. They then proceeded to bludgeon him before throwing him in the icy cold river (Russian winter). When his body was recovered an autopsy showed that the cause of death was drowning.

8. Isadora Duncan (May 27, 1877 â€" September 14, 1927) [Britannica]

Manner of death: Strangulation and a broken neck

Isadora Duncan is widely considered as the mother of Modern Dance. Born in San Francisco, California, Dora Angela Duncan was the product of divorced parents; her father a disgraced banker and her mother and pianist and music teacher. Her free form style was never very popular in her home country, but she found great success after immigrating to Paris. She founded three schools of dance and her likeness is carved over the entrance to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées.

Isadora Duncan died of a broken neck and accidental strangulation when her scarf caught on the wheel of a car she was traveling in. The New York Times, succinctly and brutally described it thusly:

“The automobile was going at full speed when the scarf of strong silk began winding around the wheel and with terrific force dragged Miss Duncan, around whom it was securely wrapped, bodily over the side of the car, precipitating her with violence against the cobblestone street. She was dragged for several yards before the chauffeur halted, attracted by her cries in the street. Medical aid was summoned, but it was stated that she had been strangled and killed instantly.”

9. Christine Chubbuck (August 24, 1944 â€" July 15, 1974) [Wikipedia]

Manner of death: Suicide on live TV

Christine Chubbuck was the host of “Suncoast Digest” a well regarded public affairs program on WXLT-TV in Sarasota, Florida. Breaking format, her guest was waiting across the studio at the news anchor’s desk; Christine read eight minutes of national news stories before the tape reel malfunctioned while describing a shooting at the Beef and Bottle restaurant. Seemingly unfazed by the technical glitch, Christine looked into the camera and said:

“In keeping with Channel 40’s policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts, and in living color, you are going to see another first: an attempted suicide.”

Taking a revolver out from under her desk, she placed it behind her left ear and pulled the trigger (she learned this was the most effective way to commit suicide from the police while researching a project for her show). She tumbled violently forward as the technical director slowly faded to black. Some viewers called 911 while others called the station to see if it was real. Camerawoman Jean Reed later stated that she didn’t believe it to be genuine until she saw Christine’s body twitching on the floor.

10. Sharon Lopatka (September 20, 1961 â€" October 16, 1996) [Wikipedia]

Manner of death: Volunteered to be tortured and murdered

Sharon Lopatka was an internet entrepreneur and one sick puppy. Living in Hampstead, Maryland, USA, Sharon was killed by Robert Frederick Glass in a case of consensual homicide.

While advertising unusual fetishist pornography on her web site, Sharon began her hunt for a partner willing to torture and kill her for their mutual sexual gratification. After many false starts, of course most replies were not serious, she finally found Robert Glass; more than willing to fulfill her fantasy. They exchanged many messages, culminating in their meeting in North Carolina. Glass tortured her for several days before strangling her with a nylon cord. He was later convicted of voluntary manslaughter and possession of child pornography.

Philippine Daily News / Priest Shot Dead
July 07, 2009, 01:06:18 PM

FOR what may be his refusal to hand over his cellular phones to roadside robbers, a priest on his way to visit his sister in Cansojong, Talisay City was shot three times in a dimly lit portion of the Cebu South Coastal Road past 8 o’clock last night.

Fr. Jovencio Rabusa, 46, died at the Talisay District Hospital some 15 minutes after he was rushed there by policemen who responded to the shooting alert. He was a member of the team ministry in Naga and was once the parish priest of Santander town.

The robbers took away his two cellular phones, which were the old and cheap Nokia models, but did not take his wallet and wrist watch.

The priest was casually attired in green shirt and cargo shorts in camouflage design.

He was off from his parish work in Naga on Mondays. As he was wont to do on his dayoff, he visited his younger sister Susan Zaragosa in nearby Talisay. Only this time, he did not reach his sister’s house.

A MASKED man barged inside the LBC Express branch in Barangay Guizo in Mandaue City yesterday morning, shot dead an employee who resisted and fled with P2,000 cash.

When police arrived at the crime scene, LBC employee Eugenio V. Agmata, 49, was already dead, with gunshot wounds in the chest and abdomen.

For updates from around the country, follow Sun.Star on Twitter

Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) Director Olando Ualat admitted there were lapses in the deployment of law enforcers in the city because the area on M.C. Briones St. where the LBC branch is located had no policemen at the time.

Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) officer SPO1 Kerwin Bejer said the robbery was pulled by four men at 8:45 a.m. Three acted as lookouts outside the branch.

The one who went inside was estimated to be 23 to 25 year old and of slim build.

Once inside, the man pointed a .45 pistol at LBC employee Trixia C. Montero and demanded cash while dragging her toward the back of the office.

Realizing that Montero had no money and seeing Agmata at the back counting money, the suspect pushed her inside the stockroom and pointed his gun at Agmata, who immediately raised his hands.

IDMB investigator SPO1 Arnulfo Quiachon, who interviewed Montero, said she shouted at the victim, “Ihatag na lang na, ayaw na og sukol (Give him the money. Don’t fight back).”

Through the slightly opened stockroom door, she saw the victim raising his arms but moving towards the gunman. She then heard gunshots and she shut the door.

Before the robbers left, public utility jeepney dispatcher Ronnie Montenegro, 24, who was in front of the establishment, took a close look at one of the two get-away drivers. He described the driver as of large build but short, wearing blue shirt, denim pants and rubber shoes.

Police have no description of the other two robbers.

The gunman’s motorcycle is a blue XRM Honda with plate GM-2779. The other get-away vehicle was a red motorcycle with the numbers 7753 in its plate.

Quiachon said they are still verifying the plate numbers.

The two motorcycles headed north.

During the robbery, Ualat was in Basak Police Station, some four kilometers from the crime scene, checking policemen. He said patrol policemen were at the MCPO for orientation on their new deployment.

He said Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) policemen designated to take their places were still lining up for gasoline at the Mandaue City Department of General Service (DGS).
That explained the absence of police forces at the crime scene, Ualat said.

He said the MPG should have coordinated with their troop deployment supervisor. The supervisor should then ask station commanders to temporarily deploy men in the area to fill the vacuum.

Ualat asked DGS to improve the system of gasoline distribution to patrol cars. He requested the City to change the time for civilian drivers of patrol cars to start their
work. Instead of 9 a.m., the time banks open, drivers should start work at 7 a.m.

For his part, Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Patrocinio Comendador ordered all police units, particularly the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG), to provide security to LBC branches in the city.

The Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) called up the CCPO for assistance in setting up blockade in the Talamban area, anticipating the robbers might headed in that direction.

Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) Director Jesus Gaquing, on the other hand, said the police in the neighboring towns also put up blocking forces.

Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna raised the need to ban “wrap around helmets” contained in an ordinance that Mayor Jonas Cortes vetoed last March 16. The helmets make it difficult for witnesses to identify the robbers, the ordinance said.

The lookouts and the gunman in yesterday’s robbery were all wearing full-face helmets.

But City Administrator Briccio Boholst said the city ordinance banning wrap-around crash helmets is not clear, as all helmets are considered “wrap around” the head.

“Tell me which helmet is not a wrap-around and which is allowed by the city ordinance,” said Boholst. The law requires motorcycle riders to wear helmets, so an ordinance
that bans helmets is contrary to law, he said.

Yesterday wasn’t the first time an LBC Express branch in Cebu was robbed.

In November 2008, an LBC branch in Barangay Banilad Cebu City lost an estimated P80,000 in cash and cellular phones to four robbers. Police said the establishment had no security guards or surveillance cameras that time.

The same observation was noted by police in the LBC Mandaue robbery yesterday.

Comendador said that after the 2008 robbery, they recommended to the management that they hire security guards and install surveillance cameras. He said the police can only recommend, but it is up to the management to heed their advice.

In a report over radio dyLA, Leonardo Libradilla, LBC Cebu area head, said they did not hire guards for its branches because there are cases that security guards are actually spies working for robbery groups.

Libradilla reportedly said that based on their study in Manila and in Cebu, some security guards have been found to be in cahoots with robbers.

He said it has been the policy of the company not to keep large sums of money in their branches.

Revolving funds are only at least P5,000, he said.

Libradilla said the company will provide assistance to the family of Agmata.

Libradilla described Agmata as a dedicated worker who has been with the company for more than 15 years.

Agmata left behind four children and his wife Maria Liza. The eldest is 15 years old while the youngest is four.

In a radio report, Agmata’s widow Maria Liza said she was still shocked of what happened.

She said Agmata was a good provider and a responsible husband.

She is appealing to the police to find and arrest the robbers to give justice to her husband’s death. (OCP/JTG)

" Subject: FW: Shocking News from World Bank ? Check it out for what's it worth.
Just received it.
Check it out.
As for me, like FOX News says, "I report, you decide.

THIS IS A VERY HUMILIATING STORY....... ........

To All Filipino Overseas Workers (OFW'S):

The Financial Analyst of World Bank would like to inform each and everyone of you that the present currency exchange rate of US Dollar to Peso is actually $1 = 52 Pesos.
Your government is manipulating the exchange rate for some years now. It is very much improbable and
impossible that the Philippine Peso is appreciating compare to Euro, British Pound, Rials, and any other foreign currency. Even your ASEAN neighboring countries are suffering from the Global Crisis.
Singapore, a developed country is affected by depreciation of their currency what more of your country?

We admire you for your hard work but we also pity you for having such a very corrupt government that is taking advantage of your hard earned money.

The ARROYO ADMINISTRATION is blatantly milking each and every OFW's all over the world of billions of pesos for its own greedy, selfish ends. Investigations reveal that this milked money from OFWs will be spent to BRIBE not only PGMA's pet COCODILES in CONGRESS but some in the SENATE as well for her to PERPETUATE IN POWER BEYOND 2010. The rest would be deposited to the family's SECRET ACCOUNT in Switzerland .

Another money-making scheme is the LOTTERY DRAWS. Filipinos should be aware that all LOTTO
DRAWS are orchestrated, and big money goes to the two sons of the lady president. Recent example is the SUPER LOTTO 6/49 draw, where supposedly two individuals from Luzon won. Do you know WHO these individuals are? It's Mikey and Datu, who else? One might ask how could the draw be rigged when it is being televised in front of millions of viewers. The answer is simple. As you all know, all bet combinations are being entered into PCSO's main data base as it is on-line, therefore, it is easy to determine which combinations were NOT betted upon. If they want to raise big money, no winners will be declared until the JACKPOT reaches sky-high because they could dictate the outcome at will.
When it's "HARVEST TIME", viola, there would be "winner or winners" and the process repeats all over again. One might ask how this is being done. One insider told our investigators that actually the "DRAWN BALLS", six balls to be exact, are the
only set which could fit into the transparent tube which sucks the balls up. All others are slightly
bigger than the diameter of the tube which could not be distinguished by the viewers, therefore, there's no way they could be drawn! You Filipinos are being skinned alive, fried in your own fat and lard by your own government. Do you ever wonder why
president-elect BARACK OBAMA, avoids your president like a stinking leper?

The folks at Pixar helped a dying girl fulfill her final wish when one of their employees hand delivered a DVD of the film Up to the family's residence for a private screening.

10-year-old Colby Curtin was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in December 2005, and ever since she saw a preview for Up, she'd been excited for the poignant film about a man who goes on an adventure after the loss of his wife by tying balloons to his house and flying away.

After the family had made a request that was never fulfilled for a wheelchair to take Colby to the theaters, a family friend began frantically calling Pixar as Colby's health dramatically worsened.

Finally the friend got through the automated messaging system by guessing a name. Pixar immediately sent out an employee to the girl's home in Huntington Beach armed with a DVD of the film and a gift basket of toys. The family sat around to a private screening.

Colby had difficulty keeping her eyes open through the film because of the pain she was in, so her mother narrated it to her.

Colby died 7 hours later and we hope her final moments were that much more comfortable for having her final wish granted!

Rest in peace...
