A New Zealand woman has told how she was kidnapped, beaten and forced into prostitution after being duped by a Facebook invitation to join a martial arts school.

Mary Elizabeth Jones, 39, was held captive in a tiny, filthy room for five and a half months and forced to have sex with up to nine men a day, after being kidnapped in the Philippines.

The martial arts enthusiast's ordeal began when she answered a message from a top martial arts group, inviting her to a month's intense training in the country in October.

"They were meant to be world class and I thought this was a chance for me to learn from the best," said Ms Jones.

But after being picked up from Iloilo City's airport by the purported leader of the group, Ms Jones was robbed of her belongings and thrown into the bug-infested room.

She was visited by up to nine men a day and forced to have sex with them. Each paid 5000 pesos ($140).

"I felt utterly disgusted, and I was treated like a piece of meat," she said. "It was meant to be a trip of a lifetime but it has destroyed my whole life instead."

Ms Jones said her attempts to escape and fight back resulted in severe beatings, which caused her to lose several teeth.

And after months of torment and starvation, which left her too weak to stand, she was dragged from the room and dumped on the streets of Manila.

"I hate myself immensely and feel so dirty. I wish I could have just died in the Philippines rather than go on living like this," said Ms Jones, who is now recovering at a boarding house in Mangere.

Five months after being rescued, she wants to share her story to serve as a warning for others who "may be tempted" by similar invitations.

Ms Jones said the room where she was kept was full of bugs and insects and the food - which came once every two days - often contained "creepy crawlies".

"It was so bad, I doubt even dogs would have eaten it," she said.

"Even now, I still wake up shivering and can still smell the stench of the enclosed room I was kept in ..."

In the five months, she lost around 30kg, dropping from 90kg.

"I don't know whether it was because I grew too weak to continue servicing the men or they had found a replacement, but they just came, dragged me away, and I was dumped on the streets in the city," she said.

Ms Jones was taken in by a women's refuge centre and stayed at the Haven National Centre for Women before receiving help from the US Embassy to return to New Zealand.

The embassy confirmed that it had helped Ms Jones in the Philippines.

Immigration New Zealand's general manager (fraud and compliance), Peter Elms said Ms Jones was holding a British passport and the department helped with her re-entry into the country.

Ms Jones was born in the UK but moved to Auckland as a child and attended Avondale Intermediate and Avondale College.

She moved to the United States and worked in business management and computer technology in Alaska before her trip to the Philippines.

"Our role was to endorse her status as a New Zealand citizen in her British passport which entitles her to remain here indefinitely," Mr Elms said.

The latest Trafficking in Persons Report by the US Department of State lists the Philippines as a source country for human trafficking and a destination and transit destination for men, women and children who are subjected to sex trafficking and forced labour.

"Hundreds of victims are subjected to forced prostitution each day in well-known and highly visible business establishments that cater to both domestic and foreign demand for commercial sex acts," the report said.

"Child sex tourism remained a serious problem ... with sex tourists coming from Northeast Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and New Zealand to engage in the commercial sexual exploitation of children."

Philippines consul-general Emilie Shi said the sex trafficking problem in her country involved mainly "domestic people", and cases involving foreign nationals were "extremely rare".

"As with any society, there will always be a few scumbags who run illegal rings and try to make a profit at the expense of other human beings," Ms Shi said. "To be safe, it is advisable to check with the embassy here before going there for holiday or for business, if there are any doubts at all."

Jokes and Humor / Love this Doctor
July 02, 2009, 01:59:32 AM
Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually.  Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn.
And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient
mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken.
Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable  products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain.  Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of  the advantages of participating in a regular  exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A:  YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! ..... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q:  Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets.

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention
of  arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body,
but rather  to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a  Ride!'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans?eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Got this from other forum site.

WICOMICO CHURCH, Va. (AP) â€" A 6-year-old Virginia boy who missed his bus tried to drive to school in his family's sedan â€" and crashed. His parents were charged with child endangerment. State police said the boy suffered only minor injuries and authorities drove him to school after he was evaluated at a local hospital for a bump on his head. He arrived shortly after lunch, Sgt. Tom Cunningham said.

It happened around 7:40 a.m. Monday on Route 360, about 61 miles east of Richmond.

The boy, whose name wasn't released, missed the bus, took the keys to his family's 2005 Ford Taurus and drove nearly six miles toward school while his mother was asleep, police said.

He made at least two 90-degree turns, passed several cars and ran off the rural two-lane road several times before hitting an embankment and utility pole about a mile and a half from school.

The boy told police he learned to drive playing Grand Theft Auto and Monster Truck Jam video games.

"He was very intent on getting to school," said Northumberland County Sheriff Chuck Wilkins. "When he got out of the car, he started walking to school. He did not want to miss breakfast and PE."

His parents, Jacqulyn Deana Waltman, 26, and David Eugene Dodson, 40, are each charged with child endangerment, Wilkins said. Waltman is being held without bond. Dodson was released on a $5,000 bond.

It was not clear if they had attorneys.

The boy and his 4-year-old brother were placed in protective custody.

"This really is a story of miracles," Wilkins said. "The Lord was with him, along with everybody else on the highway."

VIRTUAL REALITY
By Tony Lopez
Telco battle royale

The San Miguel group is going into the telecom business in a big way. It is acquiring majority of once dormant telco Liberty Telecoms and has tied up with Qatar Telecom to backstop its foray into wireless telephony.

Liberty will provide the franchise and the broadband licenses. QTel, majority-owned by the State of Qatar, will provide the financial wherewithal.

San Miguel is expected to roll out its cellular service by the middle of 2009, according to Raymond Moreno, the former majority owner of Liberty Telecoms.

Moreno says SMC will use Wi-Max, said to be the most advanced telephone technology in the world today. “Wi-Max will make obsolete the technology of both PLDT Smart and Globe Telecom,” he claims.

Both Smart and Globe use 3G and GSM technologies, which Moreno insists, pale in comparison with the capability of Wi-Max.

“Wimax is only 10 percent of the cost of GSM and 3G,” explains Moreno. Thus, he points out, San Miguel will be very competitive because it will have a 90-percent price advantage.

Wi-Max is a very simple technology, says Moreno. “All you need is a tube inside your house which will serve as the cellsite. The tube can accommodate cellular, landline, DSL and cable TV all at the same time at a fraction of the cost of current services,” he points out.

Telephony is a P200 billion a year business in terms of sales and P50 billion in terms of profits. In 2007, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) chalked up sales of P146 billion and made P36 billion in profits. Globe Telecom, on the other hand, registered revenues of P63 billion and netted P13.27 billion. These are close to 60 million cell users, 65 percent of the population.

Moreno says San Miguel will offer existing PLDT Smart and Globe subscribers a very good deal. “They can exchange their GSM cell phones for Wi-Max phones and save plenty of money and yet greatly expand their capability.”

QTel, with an estimated subscriber base of 55 million from 16 countries where it operates GSM or WiMax services, last year paid $1.8 billion for a 40.8 percent stake in Indonesia’s telecom service provider PT Indosat Tbk.

San Miguel, which is diversifying into businesses outside its traditional food and beverage operations, has bought the Government Service and Insurance System’s 27 percent share in the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) for about P30 billion, and is negotiating with London-based Ashmore Group to acquire 51 percent of Petron Corp. for P32.8 billion. The British investment firm is raising its stake in Petron from 51 percent to 90 percent by acquiring the government’s remaining 40 percent interest in the oil company.

The acquisitions are in line with the pledge by San Miguel Chairman and CEO Eduardo Cojuangco Jr. and President and COO Ramon Ang that San Miguel will develop new engines of growth in power and other utilities, infrastructure, mining and property.

As part of its entry into the telecom business, San Miguel is finalizing negotiations to acquire a controlling stake in Liberty Telecoms. “We are in negotiations to buy 60 percent [of Liberty Telecoms],” says Ang.

Ang has been elected as the new chairman of Liberty, replacing Gabriel Dee shortly after assuming the chairmanship from Raymond Moreno.

Liberty Telecoms, which filed for rehabilitation with the Makati Regional Trial Court in 2005 after suspending operations due to tight cash problems, has been scouting for a strategic partner to revive its ailing operations.

QTel, for its part, recently acquired 27.12 percent of Liberty Telecoms through the conversion of its loans to the telecom firm into equity.

San Miguel and QTel on December 15 signed a memorandum of understanding to seek joint opportunities in the wireless broadband, mobile and mobile broadband sectors in the Philippines.

The agreement was signed by San Miguel President Ramon Ang and QTel deputy chairman Sheikh Mohammed Bin Suhaim Al-Thani in the presence of President Gloria Arroyo, who was on a three-day working visit to Qatar.

Arroyo welcomed the joint venture. She called for more investments in technology and other related industries.

Ang says San Miguel is venturing into the technology-intensive telecommunications industry because it “believes that the Filipino consumer will be the ultimate beneficiary of its intended investments.” He points out that the public will have access to a reliable service provider offering affordable high-speed wireless broadband and communication solutions.

Al-Thani says the joint venture is part of QTel’s ongoing plans for expansion and consolidation within Southeast Asia. He notes that the group has been looking “to increase its profile within the Philippines as the environment appears increasingly open to external investment and the provision of communication services.”

At present, the domestic broadband market is dominated by PLDT, controlled by the Hong Kong-based First Pacific Ltd., Globe Telecom of Ayala Corp. and Singapore Telecom, Bayan Telecommunications of the Lopez family and John Gokongwei’s Digital Telecommunications Philippines Inc.

U.S.A. vs CHINA  Basketball Olympic Preliminaries: has caused intense excitement with ONE BILLION expected to have tuned in on television.  Half Time Score 49-37 ; FULL TIME 101 - 70 in resounding US win, who are favourites to win the gold medal in the  event.

Yao Ming of China was injured towards the end, and his team, although brave, were a little diffident in the rebound.  The American Dreamteam played with confidence and arrogance to the point of committing rather too many fouls, which the Chinese took full advantage of.

Sports and Fitness / Darchinyan vs Gorres
February 07, 2008, 07:48:31 PM
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, in a conversation with international matchmaker nonpareil Sampson Lewkowicz, revealed today that IBF intercontinental super flyweight champ Z “The Dream” Gorres stands a chance to fight for the IBF world super flyweight title once the mandatory defense of reigning IBF super flyweight king Dimitri “The Baby” Kirilov pushes through against closest available challenger, the reigning IBO super flyweight boss Vic “The Raging Bull” Darchinyan.

Lewkowicz said that the draw verdict in the recently concluded “Now or Never” card placed Darchinyan in the position to face Kirilov in the 90-day mandatory defense for the crown. With the period running short and Gorres required to rest for the cut in his head caused by accidental head butt from Darchinyan, another eliminator between “The Dream” and “The Raging Bull” becomes impossible. Lewkowicz confirmed: “It is final. Vic Darchinyan will be fighting Dmitri Kirilov for the IBF super flyweight title.”

If Darchinyan losses in the bid, Lewkowicz could work a contract with Kirilov promoter for Gorres to challenge Kirilov for the world title. If Darchinyan wins, Lewkowicz and Darchinyan promoter Gary Shaw have already come to a verbal agreement that Gorres will be the first contender to challenge Darchinyan for the crown. “When Gary Shaw speaks, it is as good as a written contract,” Lewkowicz said.

Kirilov rose to the vacant throne of IBF super flyweight when he defeated American Jose Navarro on Oct 13 last year at the Khodynka Ice Palace in Moscow, Russia. Kirilov now stands at 29 wins, 9 by way of knockout, and 3 losses.

Music and Video / Singer Dan Fogelberg dies
December 29, 2007, 01:55:04 AM
NEW YORK (AP) -- Dan Fogelberg, the singer and songwriter whose hits "Leader of the Band" and "Same Old Lang Syne" helped define the soft-rock era, died Sunday at his home in Maine after battling prostate cancer. He was 56.

His death was announced Sunday on the singer's Web site.

"Dan left us this morning at 6 a.m. He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife, Jean, at his side," it read. "His strength, dignity and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him."

Fogelberg discovered he had advanced prostate cancer in 2004. In a statement then, he thanked fans for their support: "It is truly overwhelming and humbling to realize how many lives my music has touched so deeply all these years. ... I thank you from the very depths of my heart."

Internet Explorer is more secure than Firefox, according to a senior Microsoft executive, who compared how many vulnerabilities were found in the two browsers--but critics say his study is flawed.

Jeff Jones, security strategy director of Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing Group, released a study last week comparing the flaws in Microsoft's Internet Explorer to Mozilla's Firefox browser; unsurprisingly, he concluded that Microsoft is doing a better job than Mozilla.

Challenging early predictions that Mozilla's Firefox browser would experience fewer vulnerabilities than IE, Jones conceded that both companies' browsers have experienced significant flaws.

Jones said Mozilla has fixed more flaws in its browser than Microsoft during equivalent periods, which he said renders Firefox more vulnerable than IE.

"Since the release of Firefox 1.0 in November 2004, Mozilla has fixed 199 vulnerabilities in supported Firefox products--75 high severity; 100 medium severity; and 24 low severity. In the same timeframe, Microsoft has fixed 87 total vulnerabilities affecting all supported versions of Internet Explorer--54 high severity, 28 medium severity; and five low severity," Jones said.

Comparing Microsoft's 2004 release, IE 6 (Service Pack 2), with Firefox 1.0, Jones said Microsoft fixed 79 flaws while Mozilla fixed 88.

He also compared IE 7 with Firefox 2.0 over a 12-month period, during which he said Mozilla fixed 56 flaws while Microsoft fixed only 17 in IE 7.

"While the data trends show that both Internet Explorer and Firefox security quality is improved in the latest version, it also demonstrates that, contrary to popular belief, Internet Explorer has experienced fewer vulnerabilities than Firefox," said Jones.

However, Jonathan Oxer, technical director and founder of Web application development company Internet Vision Technology and president of Linux Australia, said the study is flawed because Microsoft tends to bundle its fixes, which leads to a lower count over the period being compared.

"For example, when fixing a vulnerability there might be several issues being resolved in one go. So it decreases the bug count," he said.

Oxer explained that the way in which levels of security are reported is frequently different. "In the case of Firefox there may be issues that (Mozilla) has reported for which there is no known exploit--a theoretical exploit--so it's not necessarily accurate to directly compare fixed exploits without an understating of how the numbering or definition of an exploit is determined," he said.

Oxer believes that a more valid way to score software in terms of security is to give each exploit a value depending on the number of days from discovery of a bug to the release of a fix, multiplied by a severity factor.

"Two products that have a similar number of exploits fixed over a certain period may actually be very different in terms of the number of days of exposure to which users are subjected," Oxer said.

Distributor support
The Microsoft data also raises the issue of support for legacy versions of the software. While Mozilla ends support for each version six months after a new release of Firefox, Microsoft maintains support for up to a decade after the version ends, in line with its cycle for operating systems.

"If Microsoft had this same policy, then support of Internet Explorer 6 would have ended in May 2007, or similarly Internet Explorer 5.01 support would have ended in 2001. In contrast, Microsoft generally releases a browser in conjunction with a new operating system release and commits to supporting that version for the lifecycle of the product--now 10 years for business products," Jones said.

Extra: Freedom of speech online Support issues also affect third-party distributors, Jones said. Despite Mozilla ending support for Firefox 1.5 in May 2007, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS--which integrates that version of Firefox--has committed to providing security support until 2009. Likewise, Novell Suse Linux offers support for Firefox 1.5 until 2013. While Ubuntu and Red Hat released patches for Firefox version 1.5, Jones said: "The vulnerabilities patched by each vendor only overlap partially."

"Lifecycle considerations are likely (to be) more important to corporate enterprises, as they sometimes have custom Web applications and are hesitant to upgrade between major releases very often, and even then may have a relatively long transition plan," Jones said.

However, Linux Australia's Oxer said this manner of delivering support is a benefit of the open-source model, because it allows customers greater flexibility throughout a contract.

"One of the major differences between the proprietary and open-source models is when multiple vendors are providing support for a single code base...even though Mozilla may end its support, there are software vendors--such as (Linux) distribution providers--that are committed to providing support to enterprise customers," Oxer said.

"What it means is that end users get to choose the level of support they want. If you choose a company with long-term support for maintaining a stable operating environment for desktops, that's one option they can take. Or they may want a distributor with more frequent updates," he said.

The disadvantage of using a proprietary software company such as Microsoft, said Oxer, is that enterprise customers are shackled to the schedule of a single vendor, which may not fit the organization's timetable.

General Topic / About Bill Gates

1. Bill Gates earns US$250 every SECOND, that's about US$20
Million a DAY and US$7.8 Billion a YEAR! .
________________________________________________________
2. If he drops a thousand dollar, he won't even bother to pick
it up bcoz the 4 seconds he picks it, he would've already earned
it back.
_______________________________________________________
3. The US national debt is about 5.62 trillion, if
Bill Gates were to pay the debt by himself; he will finish it in
less then 10 years.
_________________________________________________
4. He can donate US$15 to everyone on earth but still be left
with US$5 Million for his pocket money.
___________________________________________________
5. Michael Jordan is the highest paid athlete in US.
If he doesn't drink and eat, and keeps up his annual income i.e.
US$30 Million, he'll have to wait for 277 years to become as
rich as Bill Gates is now.
_______________________________________________
6. If Bill Gates was a country, he would be the 37th richest
country on earth.
______________________________________________
7. If you change all of Bill Gate's money to US$1 notes, you can
make a road from earth to moon, 14 times back and forth. But you
have to make that road non-stop for 1,400 years, and use a total
of 713 BOEING 747 planes to transport all the money.
______________________________________________________
8. Bill Gates is 40 this year. If we assume that he will live
for another 35 years, he has to spend US$6.78 Million per day to
finish all his money before he can go to heaven.

Last but not the least:
If Microsoft Windows' users can claim US$1 for every time their
computers hang because of Microsoft Windows, Bill Gates will be
bankrupt in 3 years!!!!!!!!!!!
