To my Tubag Bohol Friends,

Just want to let you know na I wont be reading any PM here since I'm leaving Tubag Bohol for good.
Like Gemma, I wont say anything about the reason why I opted to leave because if I do I will be hurting people that I used to like and respect before.

Anyway, true friends are forever with or WITHOUT TB, You will always reign in my heart and I will always treasure the laughters we used to share here before.

Goodbye.

Sincerely,

Philippine Business News / Kinsa may nagpatay ni Cora??

Stings of the wild by : A.M. B Apalisok.

The Odyssey
of Corazon Zaldivar

Her story is of a woman who sought love, and hope, but failed. And yet found, in a hapless sort of way, some solace in a city that became the mute witness to her ghastly end.

Corazon, or Cora, came to Tagbilaran a total stranger. She had neither close friend nor known relative to speak of in Bohol. A Manila girl, she was a BSC Magna cum Laude graduate who once held a regular job at the capital's TESDA.

She had defied the protestations of her next-of-kin against her leaving her job to follow her man, along with warnings that she'd have to be on her own if she insisted. Insist she did, and truly on her own she was.

She came and hoped to make a life with the father of her two children, her common-law husband, who is in Bohol with a job at the local BIR. One may glean that their relationship had soured because the man walked out on Cora and her children in their rented place and lived somewhere else.

The first two years of this arrangement were bearable in that Cora and the kids were able to get by with 200 to 300 pesos a week as support from the man. Then it stopped.

The two children aged nine and ten years also had to stop their schooling at the HNU. Tuition payments from their father had ceased. The rootless family of three reached a point when even daily meals became a rarity.

At least they had a roof above their heads. The kind landlord let them stay on despite 24 months of unpaid rent. And they were in Bohol, in a city where kind, anonymous people may be less apparent, but they do exist in number and are as real as the city exists.

Neighbors and acquaintances helped, some with their own meager resources. It was said that there were times when they bought for Cora and her kids a five-peso worth of cooked pancit, which they divided as their food for three meals.

How is the children's father supposed to feel? However love may have died between him and the mother, he's still a father who loves their children. He was said to have called the attention of the DSWD to his two out-of-school kids. Cora was investigated. The DSWD learned her side and took her as a welfare case needing help.

An agreement for a monthly support of five thousand pesos was drawn up between Cora and her ex. It didn't come. The women's desk of PNP Tagbilaran then filed a complaint with the Ombudsman, which issued an order for a monthly salary deduction from the children's father. Still it didn't see fruition.

A relative of lawyer Aster Piollo's husband acquainted with Cora and her plight brought her to the lawyer's office for help. Answers to inquiries at the BIR regional office made clear that no salary deduction could be had because the man forbade it in writing. He had his own grievances, foremost of which was that Cora didn't fulfill her part of the agreement for him to have his children on weekends.

The child support case dragged on and got messier as the two protagonists dug in their heels, interposed only by little concessions in favor of the children. They were able to go back to school, joining the fast learners' class at the city central. Along with their father's cash gift to set them off were school uniforms donated by a seamstress, bags, clothes and other supplies from neighbors, and some cash from the lawyer for their shoes and a few days' food.

When the lawyer's office secretary gave birth, she agreed for Cora to take over in her absence. It was seen as a chance for Cora to have some form of income to keep her head above water as she awaited the outcome of her case.

The face-off had reached a point when more concessions were possible. Cora gave up weekends with her kids, who pleaded with her for them to be with their father, "para naman makakain kami ng masarap." Their father treats them to fun time at the mall and the standard fastfood fare, something that Cora couldn't give.

A court decision on the case was handed down January 15, 2007. Thankfully for the kids, they were with their father on February 9 when two men knocked on Cora's door. One of them stabbed Cora 13 times.

‘We are all to blame for poor girl’s suicide’--bishop

By Beverly T. Natividad
Inquirer
Last updated 08:34pm (Mla time) 11/07/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- Not only the government, but somehow, all of us, are to blame for the fate of a 12-year-old girl in Davao City who took her own life because of her family’s poverty.

This was the moral lesson conveyed by some of the country’s religious leaders in the wake of Marianette Amper’s suicide last Friday.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar V. Cruz said it was the “summit of desperation” for a young child to end her own life out of hunger and poverty. He said the incident showed the desperation of many Filipinos.

While suicide does not particularly go well with Roman Catholic Church teaching, Cruz said he would be the last person to blame the child for taking her own life.

He said the community, which directly influenced the young girl, should be looked into. Her death, said Cruz, was brought about by her social surroundings.

He said everyone is also to blame for her death. If one girl goes hungry due to poverty, then the entire society is responsible for it, Cruz said.

“This means we have not done well. We have not done our civic duty to correct the abuses, and to censure graft and corruption. We have kept our eyes closed. We did not act,” he said.

The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), which represents the mainline Protestants in the country, echoed the same view, saying the death the girl represents the failure of society as a whole.

“We have called them poor and eyesores, but what do you call a society which made them like this?” said Bishop Eliezer Pascua of the NCCP executive committee.

On the moral aspect, Jesus has always asked the people to identify with the poor, according to Pascua.

The essence of Jesus’ teachings is to fight poverty because Jesus has always talked about the poor as an act of critiquing the present order which has contributed to the poverty, he said.

“Every individual has a responsibility, yes, but we also have a calling for a collective responsibility,” said Pascua.

That calling asks all the faithful not only to take part actively to build a just and fair society, but also to fight an unjust and an oppressive society, according to the NCCP official.

The Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM), for its part, said the government, too, should take responsibility for the sad event. Poverty and hunger, which was the reason for the young girl’s suicide, could be traced directly to corruption, it said.

The Bible says that governments should be “terrors against evil” and “promoters of goodwill,” said Bishop Dan Balais, PJM national director.

Governments therefore exist to take care of the poor and the weak. But politicians have corrupted the meaning of government, Balais said.

“The death of the girl is the result of our problems of corruption, injustice and oppression. There have been many wake-up calls that have remained unheeded,” he said.

Suicide girl laid to rest; GMA Network fulfills her wishes
11/10/2007 | 06:45 PM

Email this | Email the Editor | Print | Digg this | Add to del.icio.us By AL JACINTO

ZAMBOANGA CITY - A poor girl who was driven to commit suicide because of extreme poverty and hopelessness was buried Saturday in Davao City.

Mariannet Amper, 12, hanged herself November 2 inside their house in the village of Maa. Hundreds of people, many of them moved by the girl's tragic end, came to pay their last respects. They cried as the girl's white coffin was buried.

GMA Network also aired a special on Saturday as a tribute to the girl, who had written a letter asking the TV program "Wish Ko Lang" (I Just Wish) for a pair of school shoes and bicycle for her younger brother and goats for her unemployed parents - her father, Isabelo, a former construction worker and mother, Magdalena.

The letter was written two years ago and was never mailed for lack of money to buy a postage stamp. GMA Network has given the family a mini-van, a dozen goats and a bicycle just as what the girl wished for.

"All her classmates are present and they cried also. We cried, but could do nothing else now," the girl's father said.

Alphonse Rivera, head of the child rights organization Salinlahi Alliance for Children's Concerns, said the effects of poverty have been evident even during the time of previous administration, but had allegedly worsened under the Arroyo administration.

"We have already seen and heard news of adults committing suicide in desperation borne out of poverty by jumping from billboards or hanging themselves," Rivera said.

He said that since 2005 surveys showed rising statistics on the incidence of hunger among Filipinos “and yet no decisive move to alleviate economic conditions has been done by the government."

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo this week has ordered the released of P1 billion to further accelerate the government's hunger-mitigation and anti-poverty program.

But Rivera said funding was "too little, too late." "Economic policies must be reviewed to enable the people to live a decent life. Increase wages, nationalize the oil industry, genuine land reform for the farmers â€" these are what the people are calling for but has remained unheeded," he said.

Rivera also cited a recent study by the International Food Policy Research Institute that 11 million Filipinos live on less than $1 (P42) a day experienced hunger. "Many children have stopped schooling and are forced to work to help in the family's income. Yet after all their efforts, at the end of the day, they still go to bed hungry," he said. - GMANews.TV

Singapore Airlines' A380 Takes First FlightA380 Takes First Flight

The superjumbo Airbus A380 made its maiden commercial voyage on Thursday, Oct. 25, a festive trip from Singapore to Sydney.
By Gillian Wong, AP

A Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 took off on a historic journey on Thursday, Oct. 25â€"the first commercial flight by the world's largest jetliner, which boasts luxurious suites enclosed by sliding doors, double beds, a bar and the quietest interior of any plane.

With 455 passengers, some of whom paid tens of thousands of dollars for a seat in aviation history, the superjumbo left Singapore for Sydney at 8:16 a.m. on a 7 1/2-hour flight that launches a new era in air travel. Also on board flight SQ380 were a crew of about 30 including four pilots.

Passengers clapped as the plane left the gate on schedule and taxied to the runway that was widened and lengthened to accommodate the plane. More cheers broke out 16 minutes later as the double-decker aircraft, powered by four Rolls Royce Trent 900 engines, lifted smoothly into the nearly cloudless sky tinged pink by the light of the early morning sun.

Flight attendants handed out champagne and certificates to passengers.

"It is huge in here and very comfortable, even in economy, although the seats are a bit narrow," said Chris Billowes, 59, of Sweden, as he sipped champagne, leaning against the bulkhead near the emergency exit.

Also among the passengers was Swedish electronics engineer Ralf Danielsson, 58, who took the first Concorde flight in 1979. "Twenty-eight years later, I thought it would be fun to do something like that again," he said.

The A380 ends the nearly 37-year reign of the U.S.-made Boeing 747 jumbo jet as the world's most spacious passenger plane. The A380 is also the most fuel efficient and quietest passenger jet ever built, from inside and outside, according to its European manufacturer, Airbus SAS.

It was delivered to Singapore Airlines on Oct. 15, nearly two years behind schedule after billions of dollars in cost overruns for Airbus. Still, the wait was worth it, says Singapore Airlines, which got the exclusivity of being the plane's sole operator for 10 months.

"This is indeed a new milestone in the timeline of aviation," said Chew Choon Seng, chief executive of Singapore Airlines, or SIA, in a speech before the departure. He said the A380 is "the first totally new big aircraft to be designed and built since the Boeing 747" nearly four decades ago.

Chew, flanked by two flight attendants, greeted passengers with a smile and a nod as they boarded the aircraft, which is as tall as a seven-story building. Each wing is big enough to hold about 70 mid-sized cars.

The Boeing 747 jumbo jet generally carries about 500 passengers. But the A380 is capable of carrying 853 passengers in an all-economy class configuration.

However, Singapore Airlines, recognized as one of the best in the world, opted for 471 seats in three classesâ€"12 Singapore Airlines Suites, 60 business class and 399 economy class.

Masked gunman shots farmer inside home

A masked gunman shot a farmer resting inside his home.

The victim was identified as Lito Pilonggo, 35 years old, resident of San Isidro, Pilar.

He was about to sleep 10 o’clock Wednesday night when the masked gunman fired at him five times hitting him in the neck and other parts of the body.

He died on the spot due to his multiple injuries. Police investigators found three bullet leads on the crime scene from still an unidentified short firearm.

The shooting incident is added to a long list of still unresolved killings in the rural areas, mostly in interior towns, resulting from proliferation of loose firearms.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Old woman’s body found dead, floating in the shore

A dead body of an old woman was found floating in the shore of barangay Tangohay, Dimiao last Wednesday.

Relatives positively identified the victim as Dominga Cabantuan, 77 years old from Canduao Occidental, of the neighboring town of Valencia.

The old woman was reportedly swimming alone in the afternoon and was believed carried by the current going to Dimiao.

Medico legal findings of the rural health doctors and subsequent police investigation found no foul play in the old woman’s death.

It was a case of drowning, police said which was also accepted by the victim’s relatives.

Tsunami scare continue, fear grips coastal towns

Residents of coastal towns continue to live in fear, believing a huge tsunami is coming.

This week, text messages were passed warning of a coming tsunami, purportedly caused by the movement of the Hibok-Hibok Volcano in the nearby island of Camiguin.

The panic spread to towns of Anda, Guindulman, Duero and even up to Loay, a town just 16 kilometers away from the capital city of Tagbilaran.

Residents were calling their relatives living in higher grounds, asking that they temporarily stay with them, away from their coastal residence because of the coming rise of the seawater that later on would become a tsunami.

The Philippine Volcanology (Philvocs) office here denied receiving warning about an impending volcano eruption in Camiguin.

Philvocs officials believe the unfounded panic is anchored on the latest visit here, about a month ago, of Philvocs and the Civil Defense Administration officials who conducted tsunami preparedness drill, in the towns of Valencia and Duero.

The word-by-mouth news (radyo baktas) were probably translated that a tsunami is coming hence the preparation.

Philvocs advise that residents in costal towns should not readily believe such ridiculous stories.

LGU Philippines / If it’s a bribe? RETURN MONEY!
October 22, 2007, 03:32:40 AM
If it’s a bribe?
RETURN MONEY!

“All those who received must return the money, if it was a bribe and not intended for projects.”

Despite radio survey results saying people don’t believe Bohol officials did not receive money from the recently exposed Malacañang bribery, Gov. Erico Aumentado reiterated what he said.

“Wa jod ko kadawat bisan usa ka dako gikan sa Malacañang (I did not receive a single centavo from Malacañang).”

This was the public statement made by the governor during his regular Friday morning radio program Governor’s Report.

Aumentado said he was not with the meeting of Pres. Arroyo with the congressmen last Thursday.

He was attending the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) chairmanship turnover Thursday noon. From there he rushed to catch the 2:30 afternoon Philippine Airlines flight to Tagbilaran as the President was scheduled to visit Bohol the next day, Friday Oct. 12, he explained.

“As to the three congressmen, I cannot speak for them. But they were also with me in the same flight,” the governor added.

“If indeed there was money distributed that day, all those who have received must return the money if it was a bribe and not intended for projects,” he emphasized.

The dole-outs were allegedly made to buy support for Pres. Arroyo now facing another impeachment charge in Congress.

With a faint smile, he said, “Mao bitaw nga ato jod giklaro nga neutral ta ning barangay ug SK elections kay wa jod tay kwarta ikatabang nila.” He was indirectly addressing some members of the media attending the regular Friday radio program knowing some of them are running as either barangay captain or kagawads.

Conscience-laden
As of yesterday, three out of 48 governors who attended the ULAP meeting with Pres. Arroyo have admitted receiving money from Malacañang stashed in a gift bag given after the lunch meeting.

Bulacan’s governor Joselito Mendoza said a Malacañang female aide wearing barong handed him two bags and he was asked to hand over the other bag to Pampanga Gov. Ed Panlilio.

The Pampanga governor announced that the bag contained P500,000. He has made a public declaration that if the source of the money is not revealed, he would return the money. But to whom, he did not say.

The P1,000 crisp peso bills were in five bundles at P100,000 each with marking Bank of Commerce.

Aside from Panlilio and De Guzman, Oriental Negros Gov. Emilio Macias III also admitted he received P200,000 but it was purportedly for the launching of his Integrated Tax Collection System.

While everybody is denying, Siquijor Gov. Orlando Fua, Jr. is fuming mad, complaining why he was not given the dole-out

But Gov. Panlilio noticed that if it was public funds and intended to fund projects, the release was puzzling. It was handed casually, without any voucher or signature of recipient as required by government auditing rules.

Among the congressmen, only three have yet admitted receiving money during the separate meeting with the President in Malacañang. They are Mauricio Domogan of Baguio, Rachel Arenas of Pangasinan and Antonio Cuenco of south district, Cebu.

The three Bohol solons said “they did not receive any.”

Mayors also met Pres. Arroyo during the ULAP turnover but none of them have admitted they received money from the President.

On Thursday night, however, a television network aired a video clip taken from a cellphone camera showing those attending the ULAP meeting “coming out with gift bags in hand,” similar to those given to governors Panlilio and De Guzman.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has branded the latest Malacañang fiasco as indication of our leaders’ “moral bankruptcy.”

10,000 protest over ending of Shannon route

A crowd of around 10,000 people has protested in the centre of Limerick today at the Aer Lingus decision to scrap its Shannon-Heathrow service.

Church leaders gave their support to local and opposition politicians and trade unions in demanding government action to keep the route open.

The 'Save Our Slots' rally saw the Mayors of Limerick city, Clare, Tipperary North and the Chair of Limerick County Council joining forces with the Atlantic Connectivity Alliance and the Shannon Action Group.

They all fear the withdrawal of the air link will have a serious affect on both business and tourism in the mid-west.

Aer Lingus is to transfer the Heathrow slot as part of a regional hub it is setting up in December serving nine routes out of Belfast.

The Mayor of Clare, Cllr Patricia McCarthy said: "This rally is an opportunity for the ordinary people to show the Government their total disgust at the manner in which the West of Ireland has been treated by the Government."

Mayor of Tipperary North, Cllr Jim Casey added: "Our council is totally behind the Save the Slots campaign because Tipperary North is dependent on the connectivity that the Shannon-Heathrow service gives the major businesses based here."

Labour TD for Limerick East, Jan O'Sullivan, said there was a ground swell of anger at the decision which had been made stronger by the revelation this week that the Government had known the Aer Lingus decision was imminent since mid June and had done nothing to try to keep the route open.

The TD said: "Doesn't this cock-up make it all the more incumbent on the Government, now, to call an EGM of the Company to address the blatant disregard for regional policy and for the assurances given at the time of privatisation that the axing of the route represents?

"The revelations of the past week have strengthened the resolve of all of us in the region to succeed in our goal to restore the Heathrow connectivity. The huge turn-out to-day sends that clear message to the Government and to Aer Lingus. We are not going away and we are not giving up."

She added: "We want a meaningful response from the Government. We have had enough of the flowery sympathetic speeches. We want the government to use its clout on the board of the company and insist the Shannon-Heathrow route is maintained."

The Catholic Bishops of Limerick and Killaloe and Ardfert and the Church of Ireland Bishop of Limerick issued a joint statement calling on the Government to take whatever steps necessary to "reverse the very damaging decision to abandon the Shannon-Heathrow flights."

The Bishop of Killaloe and Ardfert, Dr Willie Walsh, represented his church colleagues on the rally platform.

Iran's nuclear negotiator Larijani resigns

Chief nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani, Iran's main contact with the West over Tehran's atomic programme, has resigned, the government said today.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad accepted his resignation and Saeed Jalili, deputy foreign minister for European and American affairs, was expected to replace Mr Larijani, the official IRNA news agency said.

Mr Larijani had been set to meet EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana in Rome on Tuesday for more discussions about Iran's nuclear ambitions. The West fears Tehran wants to build atomic bombs and has imposed two sets of sanctions through the United Nations. Tehran insists it wants only to produce electricity.

Government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham, quoted by IRNA, said Mr Larijani's replacement was expected to meet Solana as planned. European officials say Mr Larijani has long had difficulty in getting the Iranian establishment to support his negotiating strategy.

Some analysts have said Mr Larijani had differences with Ahmadinejad over tactics although both oppose halting the nuclear programme in the face of increasing Western concern and threats of more sanctions.

"Ali Larijani, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, resigned from his position," Elham said.

"Despite Larijani's resignation, there will be no change in the council's programme and the new secretary will meet Javier Solana."

An official at Italy's Foreign Ministry said it would be up to Solana to decide whether the Rome meeting went ahead and "we will have to wait and see who replaces Larijani", the official said.

Major powers have agreed to delay new sanctions until November to see if Iran's deal with UN inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to clear up suspicions about Iran's intentions yields results and to await a report by Solana.

"The IAEA is working with a group of technical counterparts in Iran," a spokesperson for the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Saturday, declining to be named or to comment any further.

The final say in Iran in all matters of state, including nuclear policy, lies with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei under Iran's system of clerical rule.

VM Veloso saves city from Sen. Zubiri’s fund exclusion
By: ven rebo arigo

ACTING Mayor Jose Antonio “Toto” Veloso and two councilors saved Tagbilaran City from exclusion from the P50 million windfall that Sen. Miguel “Migz” Zubiri announced last Saturday to be distributed to the provincial government and 47 towns in Bohol.

Their representation secured for city hall P2 million from the Mindanao senator who announced in the Grand Cooperative Gathering at the Bohol Cultural Center to give P3 million to the provincial government and P1 million to each of the 47 towns.

For unknown reason, Zubiri did not mention Tagbilaran City in his speech there.

Vice Mayor Veloso, who has acted as mayor since the other Friday on account of Mayor Dan Lim’s travel abroad, and Councilors Edgar Kapirig and Bebiano Inting thus dashed to the Metro Centre where the senator met with the local press after his applauded appearance at the cultural center.

There, Kapirig and Inting of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) cooperative committee joined Zubiri, Cooperative Development Authority Chairperson Lecira Juarez and the cooperative leaders in Bohol in discussing the proposed amendments to Republic Act 6938, otherwise known as the Cooperative Code of the Philippines. Zubiri chairs the Senate cooperative committee

The acting mayor, members of the SP and other city officials already scheduled in the morning of the same day a clean-up at the Mabaw Reef, which is declared a marine sanctuary and eco-tourism seawater, off Ubujan and Taloto.

From Metro Centre, Veloso joined Zubiri, his lovely wife Aubrey, Gov. Erico Aumentado and other local officials in a dinner at the governor’s residence.

City hall has yet to identify the projects to be funded out of Zubiri’s P2 million, which now forms part of the senator’s P52 million total reward (including the P1 million for each of 47 towns and P3 million for capitol) for placing fourth in Bohol in the May 14 election for senators.

While many attributed the “sudden inclusion” of P2 million for the city in the senator’s “payback package” for Bohol to the representation of Veloso bolstered by the presence of the two councilors, sources revealed, however, that Zubiri is also a close friend of the vice mayor’s brother named Dominic.

Veloso’s brother-in-law himself, Rep. Edgar Chatto, and Zubiri have been close peers in Congress since the senator’s stint then in the Lower House as a congressman from Bukidnon.

Apart from securing P2 million from Zubiri, Veloso, still as acting mayor, separately met with the city department heads and the Association of Barangay Councils on various concerns, graced the turnover of the barangay covered court at Mansasa funded by Chatto, and led in the city’s observance of the 16th anniversary of the Local Government Code with a thanksgiving mass at the city hall atrium, followed by People’s Day activities that included the monitoring of the blood pressure of the employees.

Tomorrow, Veloso will join Department of Health Regional Director Susana Madarieta and Gov. Erico Aumentado in launching the door-to-door measles elimination drive dubbed the “Knock Out Tigdas” at the city hall atrium.

“LET THERE BE WATER”
By: Fred C. Amora

The moment of truth has come. Water is finally released into distribution canals of the controversial P3.6-B Bayongan Dam. But will water reach its targeted areas of 5,300 hectares rice lands in the towns of San Miguel, Trinidad and Ubay?

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal Arroyo herself led the commissioning of the Bayongan Dam, Friday, October 12, activating an irrigation facility eyed to boost Bohol’s dream of emerging as the rice basket in Central Visayas.

The Bohol Irrigation Project Phase II, known as the Bayongan Dam in San Miguel town, is about 88 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. Its water supply partly depends from spill over of an earlier dam project in Malinao, Pilar (BHIP-1). Unlike other dams, the two facilities wholly impound rainwater and are not connected to any major water source or river.

Arriving at 10:00 am by presidential chopper from Benito Ebuen Airport in Mactan, Cebu, the President and her party landed directly in San Miguel where she led the opening of the main valves from the facility’s main dam to the canal distribution network. The President’s coming was her fourth time in Bohol this year.

Then she led the unveiling of the marker of this P3.684B project funded by both the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and loan from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC).

Irrigation officials stressed that the P3.6B project could be irrigating some 5,300 hectares of farmlands summing up to P574.7M annual net incremental increase in rice and other crop production as direct irrigation benefits.

This translates to about 160% cropping intensity and raises production by 42,500 tons of palay. Roughly, this is valued P510M, irrigation officials said.

The irrigation facility whose coverage includes the 750 hectares served by the existing Capayas Dam is set to benefit 3,605 farmers, while spurring up local jobs during its construction stage.

NIA even forecasted that after the completion of the construction stage, the employments shifts to the farm levels where an estimated 2,230 full time farm jobs would be added annually to Bohol’s growing farm workers.

Also with the Pres. Arroyo was the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Makoto Katsura, together with Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap, Tourism Sec. Ace Durano and and JBIC key official.

NIA Administrator Mar Tugaoen briefed the President about the project. Farm inputs from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and the DA were also turned-over to the farmer-beneficiaries of Bayongan Dam.

After a brief program, the President and her party flew to Cebu at 11:00 for another official government function until 3:30 when she went back to Manila.

Dimiaonons unite in England, set eyes to help hometown

Being physically thousand miles away from home does not prevent native Dimiaonons to unite as one and set goals to unplift their well-being and their community back home.

In a long distance call, former Comnet-DyTR radio executive Manny Sales relayed to the Bohol Standard that natives of Dimiao, Bohol based in Nottingham, England have initially met the other Saturday to formally organize an association that will strengthen their ranks in a place far away from home.

The movement is spearheaded by Rosalina (a registered nurse) and husband Dante Tagaro, also based in Nottingham.

The city in central England is located on the River Trent, in gently rolling countryside to the south-east of the Peak District. Formerly the administrative capital of the county of Nottinghamshire, it is now a unitary authority in its own right. The unitary authority has an area of 75 sq km (29 sq mi). Population 267,000 (2001 estimate).

The association of Dimiaonons has laid out plans to conduct medical missions, livelihood programs in their hometown in coordination with the local government, now under Mayor Sylvia Adame.

It will also look after their individual welfare as they continue to adjust and work in England.

The couple Rosalina and Dante is well known in Nottingham as provider of shelter and refuge of Dimiaonons seeking their help.

With the association formally organized in England, Dimiaonons can now move as a strong body, with each member extending their own little share to help each other.
