1.) In 2003, I was still living in Bohol with my parents and our arrangement with my husband was 3 weeks in Bohol, and then he works in the US 6 weeks.

Apparently, kitang mga Pinay is known as LBFM...little brown ..effing machines.

2.) Among families that have a US Army, US Marine or US Navy, luoy sad ta.  Kun ikaw dili nurse, ma brought up jud ug ahat kung unsa imong background. Kay ngano man ?

Dili sad ka makabasol...daghang Yaya/helper kung adlawan, buring diay to nig day-off.

Pastilan.....

Hala....good night na. Food for thought rani.

From :

http://www.ehow.com/how_2001782_create-affective-spider-repellent.html

They are creapy, crawly and give most of us the chills! We find them in those Unexpected and undesired places in our homes. Around the cars. In the Attic. On the Boat even!
So how do we help them decide that where we are, is NOT where they want them to be?

Things You'll Need:

    * plastic spray bottle - garden type
    * large canning Jar (glass or plastic with lid)
    * old blender
    * spiders (fresh and dead)
    * Water
    * Pantyhose
    * Funnel

   1.      Step 1

      Capture spiders or kill and place in a jar. Get as many as possible from your immediate area as those are the ones you want to repel. 15+ is a good number.

   2.      Step 2

      Add warm water to the jar so that you have at least 3 cups of water covering.
      Cover and swish lightly.

   3.      Step 3

      Now the tough part.
      Pour spiders and liquid into the blender.
      Puree on high for 30 seconds to 1 minute

   4.      Step 4

      Place panty hose (or long cut off toe section) ovee the top of the blender after removing the lid.

   5.      Step 5

      Place funnel into mouth of spray bottle and slowly pour the blender contents in. This will leave remains in the stocking and allow all liquid to pass to the spray bottle.

   6.      Step 6

      Discard stocking and place sprayer onto the spray bottle.

   7.      Step 7

      Mist along all windows, doors, attic vents, porch under roofing, attic spaces, boat spaces -- anywhere you want the spiders to find new places to live.

      Normally within a week you'll be virtually if not fully spider free.

And they lived happily ever after.

Pangutana : Unsa man inyong ikasulti bahin ani ?

Ug akong bana pay pasulti-on, wala kaha nila tiklo-a si Lolo ?

Ay bawo...what do you think. I haven't heard nor seen them and I don't mean them any disrespect. I hope they're alive and well and doing good in their new life.

Change Your Thinking

It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking..

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room's only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.

The men talked for hours on end.

They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation..

Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.

The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside.

The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.

Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by.

Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.

Days, weeks and months passed.

One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.

As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.

Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside.
He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed.

It faced a blank wall.

The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window.

The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall.

She said, 'Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.'

Epilogue:

There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.

Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.

If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.

'Today is a gift, that is why it is called The Present .'

This came to mind after one of my "quiet moments" sitting by the pond observing ducks. Don't ask me why but I thought of Bohol and how it could be improved...nothing too scifi or impossible but something that might be a possibility in my lifetime. Mind you, I don't have any political aspirations nor does the thought of abandoning the life I've built appealing. But sometimes, I do hope that I can actually sit down with a major politician and maybe a few business owners who share my vision....or delusion, take your pick.

1.)  Marine & Freshwater Sanctuaries -  as we all know full well, we are blessed with lots of little islands and a network of rivers and creeks around Bohol. It won't cost too much to designate a minimum reasonable area per town to have a marine sanctuary. Panglao has one, in fact. When I was 15, I joined a symposium for Coastal Resources Management in Dumaguete City and we went to Apo Island where they have established a designated Marine Sanctuary. There were lots of birds and per our interview with the fishermen, fish became abundant. If we apply thesame principle on a larger scale in Bohol, we would give our fishes and other marine creatures a place to breed and grow undisturbed so we can replenish the population and fish will no longer demand a premium price. It will be affordable for everybody. Supply and demand. I hope that P250/kilo fish would then be P100/kl since they are plentiful.

2.) Baranggay Nurseries - Maybe I am just an avid gardener or I don't have a life. During my last trip there, my family and I went to Sagbayan a lot to see a special healer. On the way, I've observed that we do have lots of available land. We are blessed with good climate and a good amount of rainfall so here's my thoughts on this. Why don't there be a designated Community garden. We already have huge lots in our schools and kids are already taught gardening in H.E., why can't this be a year round effort and extend to other public places and parks. Again, supply and demand. Our people needn't go hungry if there's plenty. Kangkong and Malunggay grow like weeds. Bago does too. Green Onions and Peppers (sili kaguko) are very resilient in my own personal experience growing it both here in the US and in Bohol. Furthermore, Peppers apparently have more Vitamin C than oranges. Go figure. Growing up, we always had a sibuyas garden, a tomato garden, and a sili kaguko garden. This did not include the kangkong growing wild, the ginger/luy-a on the borders in between the santans, and who could forget, the little sili. Man those bear those nasty little things all year. Handy those, taste good with vinegar. heheeheh !

3.) Tree Planting - No, I don't mean those mahogany forests that is so often encouraged. Its not that I'm against it, I just don't quite see the point for right now. We can encourage fruit tree planting however. Mangoes are easy to grow from seeds and they are even easier to take care of once established. Trees are low cost, easy to grow and even make life comfortable for most of us. Can you imagine, instead of cutting down trees, we will encourage each and every household have a tree in their yard ? They do not take up a lot of space and as i said...easy. We can make it a provincial ordinance, for every XXX sqft of land that you have, you at least have XX number of FRUIT BEARING trees.  Macopa, tambis/waterapple, papaya, banana, jackfruit/nangka, breadfruit/kulo, sampaloc, lomboy, santol, mango, guava, eba, guyabano...so many to chose from.  In my parent's house, we have macopa, santol, guyabano, lansones,4 tambis trees,3 limonsito trees, assorted bananas. malunggay, and papayas...they have a 1,000 sqm lot but minus the 2m right of way, its probably 800 something. Growing up, we always enjoyed the harvests and even had enough to share with the neighbors.

4.) Mandatory CAT and ROTC - I am of the opinion that we should bring this back. Kids could use the discipline. Maybe I'm biased but men of my father's generation has a totally different outlook than the kids I grew up with. More family oriented and future oriented I guess. I am no saint but I think at age 27, you should at least be contributing to the general household instead of still being your parent's dependent.

5.) Mandatory Sex Education -  Common Sense. If our youngsters could be taught to be more responsible and sex is not too mysterious and treated as taboo...hmm...maybe we won't have so many unwed mothers. Of course, abstinence would still be best and physical and psychological consequences should be stressed. Again, I am no saint here, but if our kids can see clearly the consequences of their choices and reiterated constantly, I think it will be a good deterrent for casual pre-marital sex.

6.) Mandatory Cultural Immersion - If we as a people are proud of where we came from, I think it would improve the morale of the populace. Its appalling to think that most people don't even know who the hell Francisco Dagohoy is or Babaylan Tamblot. Nobody seem to know that Bohol was once an independent Republic for 80 years or our other folklore.  If a subject such as this is taught and the learning of ones roots is fostered, I think we can see a huge improvement in our people.  Its not "bol-anon lang tawn ko", rather " proud jud kong bol-anon". See the difference ?

7.) Financial Management for High School Students - Its hard to think that youngsters might need this education when most Filipinos in general don't have that much funds to manage but I think using, condensing and revising the principles found in Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" book would be very useful.  I feel lucky that somebody had handed this book to me when I was 17 and luckier still that I devoured its contents and used some of it for everyday life. I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel happy that my husband I have been blessed with what we have at our age.  Instead of spending their time and money playing ragnarok, dota and all of those stupid games, they can spend their time and money fostering entrepreneurship and work.  While minors can't work yet, there is no age limit to free enterprise. It is also healthier...think about it, getting fat and pimply staring at the computer all day and sacrificing their school work, OR , gardening, hiking, doing a side business..well, it keeps you fit, moving and puts money in your pocket instead of out of it.

8.) Mandatory Cooking Lessons in High School Home Econ. -  We have a lot of edible shrubs, fruits and whatever else in the Philippines, we can all use some education in finding cheap, nutritious and healthy foods that we already have. Dinner and lunch shouldn't just be pork pork and more pork. We can have lots of other varieties too. These are things I've gleaned from watching Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares and my experience at Bohol Bee Farm. Did you even know that gumamela flowers are edible ???oh year, and so are a lot of others. Salads are good for everyone, can you imagine if every family can serve a salad as an appetizer for dinner and then the main fanfare of rice and viand ? everyone would be healthier and fuller...and even make their homes beautiful too...santan was edible , so are aloe vera, cosmos and a myriad of other flowers. I'm thinking high school since its a captive audience and we can start them young.

9.)  Swimming Festival - we live in an island, we have dauis-tagbilaran straight, we have lots of kids....hmmm....we can add swimming to our list of talents. It can also spark a whole new community and jobs. Organizers, boat builders, it can even draw tourism. We can have the pre-teen level ( ages 8-12), the junior teens (13-15), senior teens (16-19) and adults 20++, we can even have seniors men and women. I bet there are lots of over 65s out there that can make the swim in record time too. :-) !

10)  Stricter Punishment for Pedophiles -  it may not be too common in the news but there sure are some we hear about, remember that creepy Canadian guy that always hung out by BQ breadbasket ? or that other foreigner who grabbed  an 8yo girl from Central Elem ? I think the latter happened just this year. If we had the death penalty, I'd say send them straight to the fryer. Jalosjos is long overdue in my opinion. Since we don't, those creeps should be black listed, made to pay a very heavy fine and  a special jail time to make them regret ever coming to the Philippines and molesting our kids.

General Topic / WANTED : TRUE LOVE IS MAGICAL
March 25, 2010, 10:50:56 AM
I posted this on my facebook...pero its still funny so  I will share it here. Copy-paste rani word for word ha from my December visit sa Bohol.

______________

LOL ! my first reaction was laughing until I was breathless....but then I thought about it,maybe this guy's serious so thought I'd share.

Earlier today, (Saturday, dec. 5, 2009) My mom and I parked at St. Joseph's Cathedral by Garden Cafe in Tagbilaran City to run a few errands. When we got back, we found this note stuck on the windshield of our car. Not sure if this is some sort of joke or if he's for real. You decide.

TRUE LOVE IS MAGICA L : Help me find her P10,000 reward

This is not a joke . I am an American and you have a chance to win P10,000. So think, and text your friends, what Boholana has LONG lighter brown hair, sic inches below her waist that is only age 20-25 ? I saw this MOST Special friend at 'Mira Villa Resort' Tagbilaran last May 12,2009, and I gave her a Bible paper; but she was so special to me from her Beauty, character, and personality, I wasn't able to speak. - We BOTH would like to find each other again; she may be in Cebu or anywhere working, or in school, but is Boholana; and would have relatives here. - Pay attention to the above length hair; she can be found simply because of that, and with her age. - She is GWAPA x 50 million, and is a Very Special lady. She is Smart, maybe 5'3"-4" in height, is slim, small features, has light eyes, likes to wear her hair in 'Pony Tail', has very light skin, but is Simple ('Flawless') - I also saw her at B.Q. for a moment Oct. 12 ( Five months to the day. - And I had an older mom tell me, 'When the heart is totally full, the mouth is totally empty.' And I said, 'Wow!, do the younger ladies know that? :-) ) - Please if you ever think of, or see Anyone like this, ask her 'if she was at Mira Villa Resort last May 2009, in receiving a Bible paper from an American'; and if she says yes, ask her contacts, and email me at God2us@yahoo.com and I will arrange for you a P10,000 cash. ( Again, we Both would like to find each other again), And I MISS HER VERY VERY MUCH, so please do your best, and don't lose this paper and email address, and THANK you.
