Earthquakes don’t kill. Unsafe structures do. That’s one lesson Filipinos can draw from the recent magnitude-7 quake that devastated Haiti.

A recent study at Columbia University found that the Philippines has the biggest number of schoolchildren at risk from earthquakes.

According to the study, the Philippines has 15.6 million school-age children in earthquake zones, the highest exposure it cited. I doubt the Department of Education is even aware of this.

MANILA, Philippinesâ€"The prospect of having a “Saint Cory” is not an impossible dream, said a Jesuit priest Sunday on the eve of Aquino’s 77th birth anniversary.
Corazon Aquino’s name may be brought up for consideration for sainthood within five yearsâ€"or lessâ€"if the Vatican pushes it, said Rev. Fr. Catalino Arevalo, SJ.
“The decision is up to God,” the priest said in his homily during the Mass celebrated in Aquino’s honor at the EDSA Shrine chapel Sunday.
In his homily, Arevalo said the push for an Aquino sainthood was not surprising, considering how the late President had led her life and how she was able to marry her faith with her brand of governance.

“In centuries past, we had canonized kings. We had canonized leaders. Is it possible to [do] this again?” he said.

Arevalo said that in the recent past, very few political leaders had risen to sainthood, and that he believed the possibility of Aquino getting beatified was not far-fetched at all.

Question and Answer / Life Span of todays people
January 25, 2010, 08:39:22 PM
Today the average lifespan is 25,550 days. That's how long you will live if you are typical. Don't you think it would be a wise use of time to set aside 40 of those days to figure out what God wants you to do with the rest of them?
The bible is clear that God considers 40 days a spiritually significant time period. Whenever God wanted to prepare someone for his purposes, he took 40 days.

This school year 2008-2009, all elementary schools in Digos City Division opens preschool education supported by the DepEd and City government. The needs of the young learners in educatrion are now giving much attention because of the threatened issue of arising slow learners, and preparedness for formal education.

Hoping that preschool education should be part of the DepEd.
