Bohol Directory / Re: Who Really Is Dagohoy?
October 04, 2010, 01:06:36 PM
Bohol’s (85 year Revolt) 85 years of Independence from Spanish Rule
Francisco Dagohoy holds the distinction of having led the
longest revolt (1744-1829) in the Philippines.

There are no available records that contain information about his parentage, birthday and boyhood.

Dagohoy's brother, a constable, was requested by the Jesuit
Gaspar Morales, who was in charge of the disrict of Inabangan, Bohol to go after and bring back a renegade indio who had fled to the mountains. The renegade killed Constable Dagohoy instead. When he heard of his brother's death, Francisco went to the mountain and brought his brother's body back to the village so that it could be given a Christian burial. Great was the disappointment of Francisco when Father Morales, in whose service his brother had lost his life, refused.

The priest did not want to have the body buried in consecrated ground because he had been killed in a fight. Far three days the corpse remained unburied and rotting. Angered at this arbitrary and harsh treatment, Dagohoy swore vengeance on the Jesuits, and persuaded the natives of his district to join him. Soon he had about 3,000 men following him to the mountains. On their way they plundered a large and valuable Jesuit estate named San Xavier which was well stacked with cows, carabaos, horses, pigs, and other animals.

In an inaccessible region in the mountains between Inabangan and Talibon, Dagohoy established his headquarters and proclaimed the independence of Bohol. Up there in the mountains, the revolutionaries established their headquarters, which they fortified with trenches of big rocks. Just like the way some upland farmers pile up big rocks on top of another in their farms. They also build dwellings for their families and cleared up some of the forest areas so that they can plant crops for their subsistence.
Since Dagohoy has experience in leading a community being a cabeza de barangay, it is safe to assume that he set some rules and norms to maintain peace and order in the new community. When the other Boholanos heard about the revolt, they expressed their sympathy by joining the revolutionaries or by supplying them with arms and money.

Dagohoy and his men sallied out in lightning raids on the lowland towns, assaulting the local Spanish garrisons, looting the churches, and slaughtering Spaniards, particularly the Jesuit priests. On January 24, 1745 one of Dagohoy's bold warriors killed Father Ciuseppe Lamberti, an italian Jesuit and parish priest of Jagna. Shortly after, the hated Father Morales was killed. Dagohoy's personal vengeance was fulfilled. But he continued his rebellion, for his armed movement was organized not merely to liquidate a personal enemy, but to regain the lost freedom of his people and to make his beloved Bohol once more a land of free men.

News of the remarkable success of Dagohoy worried the Spanish authorities in Manila. In 1747 Bishop Juan de Arrechederra, acting Governor-General of the Philippines (1745-1750), dispatched a punitive expedition to Bohol under the command of Don Pedro Lechuga. Commander Lechuga won a few skirmishes but failed to crush the rebellion. In desperation, he sent a commando unit into the mountains to kill or capture Dagohoy, his sister Gracia, and other leaders. The commandos returned empty-handed because they could not penetrate Dagohoy.s fortified stronghold

Perhaps the best indication of the importance and the success of this rebellion may be seen in the persistent efforts exerted by both the State and the Church to negotiate with Dagohoy. After the unsuccessful military attempts to suppress the revolt, it was the Churchs turn to make the effort. Bishop Espeleta of Cebu tried to persuade the rebels to give up their resistance by promising to secure a general amnesty, to find remedies for the abuses of government officials, and to assign secular priests instead of Jesuits to the Bohol parishes. The rebels refused the offer..
The Recollects replaced the Jesuits, and Father Pedro de Santa Barbara, who was stationed in Baclayon, ascended the mountains to interview Dagohoy. He was welcomed and well treated, but Dagohoy courteously refused to give up Bohol's independence. Supplementing the peace efforts of the Recollects, Governor-General Jose Raon offered amnesty and pardon to Dagohoy and his followers if they would lay down their arms. Dagohoy spurned this offer, saying that his people were enjoying the good life of a free people.
The revolt continued. By 1770, five years before the waging of the American War for Independence against Great Britain, there were already about 30,000 revolutionaries in Bohol.
From 1744 to 1829, a long period of 85 years, the Boholanos successfully maintained their independence and preserved it with fierce courage and flaming partriotism. It seemed probable that Dagohoy died before the year 1829 in his mountain kingdom either of old age or of sickness. His followers, imbued by his indomitable courage and fearless heroism carried on the fight for independence. Twenty Spanish governors-general, from Gaspar de la Torre (1739-1745) to Mariano Ricafort (1825-1830), failed to suppress the libertarian struggle.

The death of Dagohoy greatly weakened the cause of the Boholanos. Governor Ricafort, an able and energetic administrator, exerted efforts to conquer the island of Bohol. He dispatched strong expeditions to the island in May, 1827 and in April, 1828. The following year, Captain Manuel Sent, a veteran Spanish soldier conducted the last drive against the Bohol patriots.

Missing Dagohoy's excellent leadership, the Boholanos made their last stand in the mountain of Boasa. Two brave brothers named Handog and Auag, commanded the patriots.
Fighting with desperate courage, the indomitable Boholanos resisted the enemy, whose heavy artillery pieces caused much havoc to their fortifications and took a terrible toll of human lives. Wearied by the ceaseless combat, weakened by hunger and thirst, and depleted in numerical strength, they made their last stand in the mountain of Boasa under the command of the valiant brothers, Handog and Auag. They also had three lieutenants who must have taken their place and at least one of them probably lived to the time of the surrender. They were Ignacio Aranez, Pedro Bagio and Bernabe Samonte.

By August 31, 1829, they fought their last battle and were crushed by Spain.s superior arms. The survivors fled into the forest, where they grimly continued to carry on their hopeless cause
The revolt ended formally on August 31, 1829. Manuel Sanz, commander of the Spanish forces, officially reported that 3,000 Boholanos escaped to other islands, 19,420 surrendered, 395 died in battle, 98 were exiled and around ten thousand revolutionaries were resettled in the areas of Balilihan, Batuan, Bilar, Cabulao and Catigbian. These figures all point to the fact that the revolt was widespread in the province, hence, it was not simply a Dagohoy revolt. Dagohoy started it and continued to be a source of inspiration to his comrades even after his death. But it was a Boholano revolution against Spain.
Governor Ricafort, himself a brave soldier, admired the fighting spirit of Dagohoy's men. With magnanimity, he pardoned them and allowed them to live in peace in the lowland villages, now the towns of Batuan, Balilihan, Catigbian, and Pilar.

During the 85 years of Bohol's independence, the patriotic Boholanos lived as free and sovereign people. They did not render forced labor nor pay tribute. They suffered neither racial discrimination nor social humiliation from the hands of the Spaniards. Dagohoy was able to maintain a government. His rule was firm and just. He was obeyed and, respected by his people. Governing like the datus of the pre-Spanish era, he was the chief executive, the supreme judge, and the military generalissimo. He was assisted by the old men in peace affairs and by the military captains in war matters

Bohol province is now gaining and offering lot of tourists attraction but I think there are still lot of important things to be learned in this connection.  E.A.T. Danao is one of an example... Been there during my last vacation, the adventure park is  very interesting even though it is quite expensive for the local tourists, it is also a must to give more security guarantee to the guests. Have not seen there any FIRST AID SERVICES  in case there is any accident occur. Simbako lang! Nevertheless, they must also to give more attention for the improvement of their catering (restaurant in the park) the food was really a bit warmer than a corpse.
And we must have not to forget....the latest ambush happened in San Jose, Inabanga on their way to enjoy E.A.T. Danao. Wake up Bol-anon tourists securities and all government authorities. We are now on our way to bring out Bohol as one of a developing province in the Phiils.

first aid kit is always on hand.....dili lang visible......we even have an ambulance on hand for the park.....ug usa ka nurse on site.....mahal? price is relative.....we have people doing the ride would say sulit cya....on the food sorry about that.....correction lang di to ambush but hold up.....w/c is beyond our control with limited resources.....but we have remedied na the problem put in place safety net.......infact nadakapn na ang kadaghanan sa perpetrators......

bohol will never reach the level of cebu or negros in terms of improvement, infrastructure and investor wise. sorry to say this but it's really the truth. the people running the show in bohol are all greedy and all are just thinking for themselves. hopefully someone in the future will save this province the mouth of the predators.

bohol is indeed a paradise but the question is, are the people in bohol living as if they are in paradise? the answer is no, a big, big no. they are still hungry people in panglao island even if it's called a paradise, hungry constituents in carmen even if there hills are chocolate, hungry and needy residents in danao even if they have EAT in their town.

according to nationmaster.com in their most recent record, philippines is #70 in the list among countries with population living below the poverty line. in which we are tied with Turkmenistan, Cape Verde, and Dominica where 30% of the entire population are below poverty line. The same result presented by Index Mundi. while in CIA, it is showed to at 32.9% based on 2006 data.

Countries whose poverty line are below 10% are Austria 6%, Andorra 8%, France 6.2%, Greenland 9.2%, Ireland 4.2%, Lithuania 4%, Malaysia 5.1%, Mauritius 8%, Montenegro 7%, Serbia 7.9%, Switzerland 7.4%, Taiwan 1.08%, Thailand 9.6% and Tunisia 3.8%. While the top 20 countries are all from Africa.

agree pero ayaw pud ug shoot gun approach na tanan ma igo.....yes Danao dagahan pa ug pobre but it has significant improvement na compared before this is because of the Adventure park......the park has great impact on Danao's economy......it hired more than 100 pax...indirectly it benefited people in town thru income generating activities via accommodation, habalhabal, van for hire, carenderia etc.......plus ni add ug another aspect of tourism for bohol w/c draws more tourist to bohol......since 3 years pa ang park you cant expect it to cure the social ills of the town nga dugay na gi neglect before the current administration came in.....it will take some time to fix the problem on poverty........

now with extra income generated....sa pag ka karon.....they have manage to raise 25M sa park of which they have already set aside money for healthcare, education, micro finacing, job training, etc......in fact they have a project where they provide free milk sa mga day care center around the town....plus the milk they are buying is sourced from within the town lang supporting a local coop.....just recently nag launch ang Danao ug Home stay this way ang mga towns people will have the opportunity to earn pud.....so slowly but surely we hope the poverty in the town will slowly be reduced......to a manageable level......

again di pud tana leaders sa bohol are after personal gains.....

the tarpauline just shows to you that EBA's allege collaboration with Villar was a figment of Chattos Imagination w/c was the basis of the revocation of EBA's cona.....ang ang mo suporta ka sa tao nga ga duslak sa imong luyo....Once bitten twice shy doy.....

so ang basis na EBA would support villar was just Chattos camp schemming way to discredit EBA.....at the end of the day it was Power Grab ang gibuhat ni Chatto ug ni cajes......once na grab na ang power.....this is what they did.......instead of putting credible, effective, true blooded bolanon in Lakas slate.....they put this people om thier slots

1st district.....Relampagos...best friend ni Chatto....who had a questionable dealings sa pass as the governor of bohol (privitzation of utilities)....naay allegation na some money changed hands.......this guy has nothing to show in his sir years in office....take not vice gov niya si chatto at that time ha....nya di pagyud taga 1st distirct......

EBA's choice was si mayor salinas....nga in six years term dako kaayo ug improment na hatag sa town....plus ann accomplised na businessman....plus will estabished na contact niya sa imperial manila......nya taga 1st district pa gyud......

2nd district......BB cajes......wife of sitting congressman.....what he done for ths 2nd district nga tangible man kuno beh???? NADAHHHHH......ni asenso ba ang second district economicallyu wise.....by how much did his worth jump up during that period of time....take note wala cya negosyo ha....nya walay kawarta when he took office to begin with......how did he manage to amass tremndous amount of asset...nya iayng ipapuli iya wife na wala man intawon nahibaun bahin sa ins and outs of congress....ang gipulihan si EBA....ang basis sa ilang pulihan....was that allegely he is supporting villar.....base on what you posted.....he still support Gibo up to now......so sayop to na allegation....basig lang gibuhatan ug storya ni chatto para lang ma ligit iya lihok para makuha niya a leadership sa lakas......i dont need to go into details kay we know what EBA has done for the province and the 2nd district.....

3rd District......Arthur yap ila gipadagan......ngno man dili si relampagos.....what politacl accomodation did relampagos get to disuade him from running in the 3rd district....what political accomodation did the incumbent Congressman get from not running in that district again.....hands down both person would have won had they ran against  arthur yap.....this manuevring just shows you that this was hatched long ago kay naka pasar man si relampagos sa residency sa 1st district.......how sure are we arthur yap will serve the 3rd district heartfully when the way he got this seat is quite distastefull and medyo questionable.......murag gi sagpa nila ang taga 3rd district ni ani.....kay murag naman wa nay lain qualified nga taga district run for congress.......nga mo import pa man cya sa manila....ngano di man si didto daga kung as gyud cya gikan.....

at the end of the day EBA has to choose kung asa cya....Kaayonhan sa Bohol or Kaayohan ni Chatto ug ni Cajes.......asa man iyang loyalty dapat mo adto?????

#6
My loyalty to my party ends where my loyalty to my country begins.” This quotation is attributed to Manuel Luis Quezon..........

Where do you think ang loyalty ni EBA goes to? sa party niya or sa mga bolanon........to whom do you think would EBA leave the continued growth of bohol to? Chatto and Cajes?

EBA has achieve a lot for bohol......mind boggling ang improvement and unprecedented…....majority of the bolanon benefited from this..........including the nay sayers towards him.........Bohol has gained a lot under his term.....what do you think EBA would do to protect Bohols gain? would he hand it to someone who is not capable ug questionable ang integrity???? I don’t think so……

take a look at chatto and cajes.....what tangible achievement have they done for bohol's growth???....better yet sa ilang district???? naa ba???….....

take a look at Balilihan........what improvements has he brought there??? the chattos has been there since time and memorial.......hantud karon wala gyud improvement na makitan.......

para lang ma ingon na naay na implement na project......they destroyed good functioning road and implememted road concreting on it…....

Just think no improvement in Balilihan maskin congressman cya nya ang iya mama mayaor……....that tandem would have brought a long term economic benefit sa mga tao didto sa balilihan......feeding people during fiesta and giving money people in needs……is not good leadership…..good leadership is providing livelihood and opportunity to your people….so that they can stand on their own…..para pud inig ka fiesta maka hikay sila sa ilang balay……

Lets take a look at Catigbian.....Night and Day and difference sa improvement.....lead by Mayor Salinas........nya six years pa cya in office…..by that alone it would have earned him a slot as a congressman in that district that chatto is going to vacate……

who did chatto choose as his replacment?

Best bud Relampagos na di taga diha na district…..plus this guy is tied to an anomaly sa bidding sa Electric Utility sa tagbilaran….wa pa gyud track record as a governor…….during his six year term……Bohol was languishing in poverty….was part of the bottom 20 provinces in the Philippines………unemployment was sky high……insurgency was at its peak….by his choice lang alone would show you that Chatto will choose his personal interest over the provinces interest…..…..why would you would choose someone who is incapable and has questionable dealing in the past over a person with great track record ug walay anomaly? It makes no sense gyud……

This was well planned gyud to let Relampagos run in his district….ni pasar man cya sa residency in staying sa 1st district…….how long ago was this scheme hatched????? When did relampagos start registering sa 1st district…very skimming and self interest driven…that is the leadership that chatto brings on the table….why would EBA support him????
Another issue here is the fielding of non-bolanon sa 3rd district……ana na ba ka banga ang taga 3rd district na dili sila ka field ug tao para mo dagan sa congress…..honestly that is a slap in the face sa bolanon……..ngano man dili cya mo dagan didto sa lugar asa cya gikan?????? Maybe di ka daog didto noh? Nya gi assume nila na mogamit lang ug kwarta para mak daug sa bohol……why do you think he is running un oppose man kuno be???? Ngano man wa mo dagan si Rene Relampagos against this guy…he would have won against this guy easily…ngano man adto sa laing na distict na dili man cya taga didto gyud…....ngano wa man mo dagan ang incumbent against this guy….……naa bay kwarta involve in them not running…..the way I see it gi yano yano lang nila ang bolanon ani ay…….and that is the leadrship that chatto brings on the table………why would EBA support him?

Another issue here is the fielding of BB cajes sa 2nd district under lakas……..iyang bana sa nine years in congress walay tangible improvement na hatag sa 2nd district……ZERO……and you think eya missis naay ma deliver…… he choose her over Aumentado????? ……

another question is why BB Cajes man gyud….where naa pa man uban better sa iya in that idstrict…….

just try to put Statement of Asset and liability sa mga Cajes in a graph and compare it with the economic gains of the 2nd district……diba dako kaayo ang disparity sa duha……it would show na ila asset grew double digit  every year nya ang economic gains sa 2nd district gamay kaayo ug growth mayo lang unta ni grow ug double digit sa nine years under ni cajes………nya chatto supports this people…..that’s the leadership chatto brings on the table…..nya mo support ka ana???? Can  you stomach this kind of leadership? Would you want this people to run Bohol?????

Fact...beofre aumentado: bohol was bottom 20 sa poorest na province........at the helm after niner years.....out of it naa na ta sa top 50....

Fact....before aumentado....ga import ta ug agricultural product......

fact before aumentado....pal had to Take out flights to tagbilaran kay alkanse....now more than 9 flights a day......

"Political parties are meant to consolidate the constituents behind well-defined social agenda."

Tanawa ang balilihan.....the day the people that manages that place really put into their heart social agenda is the day we can see eye to eye.......

"But in our country, political parties seem to be just a convenient vehicle to get at least a low-cost, and at best a free ride, to elective public office."

who do you think have done this????? si chatoo wa niya gibuhat? ci cajes wa ni niya gibuhat....

"We have not really nurtured our parties to be anchored on social platforms and principles that will be the electorate's basis for evaluating their performance when they are in office."

Que? do they want social reforms ba? ug naa ba salay principle......ang maayo lang nila is mang hugas ug kamot.......ug naa ba kaha sila performance.......the sign of people nga insecure......every time naa sila project broadcast dayon

"Instead, our political parties are personality-centered."

yes personality centered ni chatto

"No wonder Chatto is calling the shots in Lakas--he enjoys a lot of popularity and has been taking a lot of credit for the good press that Bohol is getting. Elsewhere, being identified with the administration has been shown to be a candidate's kiss of death, but in Bohol, Chatto seems to have rallied the people behind, and in spite of, his unpopular party."

Seriously....are u laying claim na ni progress ang bohol coz of chatto?????

"Having seen the last minute party-switching, I believe we're still a long way off from choosing our leaders on the basis of what they stand for. Opportunism rules the day over party loyalty."

pwede man pud ni swithch sila kay way ayo si chatto di ba.......asa man ka dapat mas loyal? sa imong voters or sa party?????? asa man imo ipa labi ang party or ang voters?

here is another issue.....why would you bring in someone na dili taga bohol to represent one of its district sa congress.....why kaha dili na lang didto c yap dagan where asa cya ga dako....just bcause na minyo cya ug bolanon does not necessarily mean iyang sympathy adto sa bolanon.....wa bay lain na bolanon na maayo didto na district.....actually dako na cya nga sagpad sa mga tao didto n distict.....kay wa nay laing sila makitan nga ga import pa sila tao gikan sa laing lugar

PANGLAO AIRPORT PROJECT
Mayor softens position

In what was seen as a softening of position, Mayor Doloriech Dumaluan of Panglao appeared to have changed his mind given his hardline posture on the planned international airport in his town. No less than Gov. Erico Aumentado confirmed Friday during weekly Governor's Report that in one special occasion in Dauis (blessing and inauguration of Flushing Meadows Resort and Playground), Mayor Dumaluan sidled up to him and hinted his cooperation on the airport project.

The deal Dumaluan was asking for from the governor was that if indeed the project was for real, the mayor wanted “a piece of the action”. Simple as it may seem, the Panglao mayor wanted to assume the role of buying the land requirements of the airport if indeed if were possible for the money to be channeled through the local treasurer's office. That done, he can start negotiating with the lot owners.

One argument advanced by Dumaluan in getting hold with the land money was that it was his way of convincing the doubting Thomases that the airport project is now a foregone reality. With the airport project now under the Manila International Airport Authority, money has started to flow in earnest starting with the impending release of P110 million for land acquisition. During The President's recent visit, it was reported that she already ordered the release of the amount.

THE GOVERNOR'S RESPONSE

Confronted with Dumaluan's apparent change of heart, the governor seemed to be doing a Pontius Pilate. Gov. Aumentado said much to his desire to accommodate the Panglao mayor's request, he cannot do so because he has no control over the money which comes from the coffers of the MIAA. It was reported that the MIAA is earning about P7billion a year and allocating P1 billion a year for the Panglao airport is no big deal. This means that in four years, at the rate of P1 billion a year, the airport project which cost almost the same amount will be over by then. At the same time, Gov. Aumentado also confirmed that Mayor Dumaluan also made the same request to Cong. Edgar Chatto, another prime mover of the Panglao airport. However, up to press time the first district congressman remains mum about the Dumaluan offer.

No one that I have spoken to that is living in the deep interior and along the coast lines in Panglao seem to be to much in favor of this issue what so ever.

I heard the best interveiw over the radio last week with a foreigner investment owner in Panglao on a local popular AM program Cuentas Klaris and if anyone could get a hold of the recording of that show from almost two weeks ago I think Dave Bailey (UK) put it straight to the point.

In where professionals should be brought in to properly study what would be the affects and make sure that the professionals doing the survering and studies do not have a so called economic interest in the area so that their professional sopinions would not be affected.

if they implement said reclamation at same level of protection and guidelines employed by the dubai project.....it might be worth while to look at this thing.....i remember sa one episode sa national geographic.....the project made it a point na they hired someone na pro enviromentalist para strict gyud....the group that was hired was even surprised how well an ecosystem has develop in the area of the reclamation........

"unsay "walay impact" kining ginagmay nga proyekto? nagtoo diay ka nga maingon ani ning Bohol karon kung di pa tungod sa malamposong ginagmayng proyekto nga nakatabang sa panginabuhian sa mga tawo?"

Kay ngno did this small project give long term employments sa mga tao? did it in anyway provide opportunity for a town to earn anything from it para sustainable, did it in anyway relieve the suffering sa mga tao.........kay kung paguapo lang ug baangay hall....nya pag butang lang ug basketball......honestly that is a waste of money.....pero kung ginagmay na project na mo provide ug trainging sa mga tao thats a different story......

"unsa may naka-kalas sa atong buhis kung gamiton lang kini sa maayo? gahunahuna tag dagko kaayong mga butang, sama sa pagpatugpa og eroplano sa usa ka gamayng isla, unya naay daghang nanggibaktas sa kabukiran sa tibook probinsya; dili sila makasakay og maayong sakyanan tungod kay dautan ang mga kalsada? Gamay na isla??? hmmm Mactan is smaller than Panglao.....so u think that putting that international airport there was a mistake???? hmmm how many people do you think are earning a decent leaving then because of the airport now? what do you think will happen sa Central Visayas kung wala nang international airport didto???? ga butang ta ug airport in the hopes na masamot ug kadevelop ang atong tourism....maka generate ug trabaho.....ug mapalit ang tinanom sa mga tao sa bukid.......plus possible pa na makabaligya pa sa gawas sa nasod and product sa bohol at a cheaper rate.....meaning ma competitive na ato product

kabalo ta limited atong resources.....so our leaders has to prioritize project that has the biggest impact sa atoa in the long term......mao nang gi una ang circurferencial road kay pirmi gamiton, daghan ug agricultural land nga ma agian, ug cost effecient kay dretso drets nimo ma work on.....unfortunately lang nine years is to short to implement all the projects that one would like to....

"naay nag-antus sa kakuwang sa maayong padagan sa tubig-mainum ug para sa kabasakan, labi nag tiempong tinghuwaw, asa man ang vision nga inyong giingon? perting nindota kaha ang dagan sa mga cottages sa Panglao, samtang naggujod  gihapon sa ilang mga paninda ang mga tawo sa ubang lungsod kay kabao ray makasulod sa ilang baryo. sakto ba nang timplaha sa giingon natong vision?"

Really.....so sayop tong news na luzon was thingking of importing rice from bohol???? way back before aumentado took the helm of the province.....bohol was importing agricultrual product gikan sa ubang isla......karon kita na ga import.....is that kulang sa tubig???? on the drinking problem thats a different issue....

naay boat man ga offer ug isalnd hopping,
naa womens group ga provide ug massage,
naay pila pila ka bars sa kilid sa dagat na ga provide ug employment.....
ug where do you think this resto buy their materials for food?????
naa pay dive shop....
plus naa pay mga souviner shop........

pila man do you think ang na ka work coz of tourism? pila pud naka indirectly naka earn sa tourism ug pila ang directly na ka earn sa tourism

now close your eyes.....nya think walay development sa tourism.......asa kaha ang bohol ron.....let me guess naa pa ta sa listahan sa bottom 20 sa province......just think with those projects bundled together plus the great work we boloanon are giving it.....we mange to crawl out of the 20 botom list and climb up to the 50 provinces sa pinas in a span of 9 years.......don't you think thats good vision

Sorry lang no, pero honestly, how well-established is the idea that "bohol growth on tourism will hindge [sic] on an airport that is nearing na it handling capacity"? Can we have the figures, please?

common logic lang bai...as sherlock holmes would say elementary my dear........how many planes can the runway safely handle as per international standard in a given time? inig parking sa duha ka plane sa tarmac.....u think ma landingan pa ang airport?......how long do you think will a plane be on the tarmac to embark and disembark the passenges including the luggages?........pal flights: 3 per day, Zest: 2 to 3 per day, cebu pacific about 2 to 3 pud....thats about nine plane...what do you want wait na mo abot sa saturation point diha naka mag sugod ug tukod ug airport.....havent you heared of lead time..........by the time the airport is done mao pud time na saturated na ang airport........same ra na sa power industry....di ka mo hulat sa saturation point before you build a new plant.....you project an expected saturation point at some point.......then start counting backward.....the period of time it takes you to build the plant thats the number to years you move backward.....mao na nag ka blackout blackout ta kay ga hulat ta pirmi sa saturation......again reactive dili proactive

However, up to press time the first district congressman remains mum about the Dumaluan offer.

agree......when that airport and bridge sa mactan gi proposed dagahn gayango-ngo na sayop ug walay pulos daw.......pero gi duso gihapon sa ga plano.....karon.....tungod sa bridge ug airport multi billion ang investment and ni sulod ug ni contibute sa atong GDP ug dako kaayo......kung atong ecompare and GDP contributin sa GDP sa mactan ug Bohol mao mao ra ciguro or Mactan would be higher.....to think that macatan is just a small stip of land ha........

kung imong e analyze lang ang current situation sa current airport......at best......that airport could safely handle about 10 flights a day at best kung pugson gyud......w/c means bohol growth on tourism will hindge on an airport that is nearing na it handling capacity.....if no new airport is put up tourism growth will be hampered.....at the demise of the people of bohol......if you were to look at the economic growth and improvement of bohol.....tourism played a major cornerstone in its upstick........kung walay tourism success sa bohol i don't think bohol would be able to move out of the bottom 20 provinces in the phillipines........w/o tourist going there service industry would be minimize gyud........lesser banks, lesser telecom companies, lesser restaurants, lesser hotels, lesser money transfer companies, lesser gas stations, no van Rentals, Souviner shops will close down, etc...such situation would mean daghan tao walay trabaho if a scenario like that would have happend........

admittedly road going to Danao guba gyud....but you have to understand na that park there was set up way before any plans to pave the road going to Danao....the town pud did not wait for the road to be paved kay the proponent knew they have a very good product/service on hand na they are sure adto-on gyud sila sa Tourist........w/o the new tourist attraction there i don't think it would be justifiable for the province to paved that 20KM++ raod going to Danao......that town is not a major agricultural town.....lisod pud e-justify to pave a road going there when a much needed coastal road is in need of fixing.......we have to understand pud na limited and budget sa province........so they had to prioritized........we have to remember that Danao sarted getting its exposure sa 2007....then ni sikat cya early 2009.......til that time the only think you would probably hear of that place is that its rebel infested....or you don't even know such town exist in bohol......the good news now is that tnks to aumentado that road is a national road na....so hopefully that problem can be fixed real soon......as to the rate na mahal........thats relative......kay naa man pud mag sulti na rate is oki na price......

Dili baya buot nakong ipasabot nga DOT jud ang major player. In fact, my last statement asserts Mayor Tom's attributes as a leader with a vision for Danao. We cannot help but relate the two because it is what media is feeding the public. I think a feature on Mayor Tom in Bohol or national media will help.

maoba? oki.....kay the way i read this statement....."Danao's success in extreme adventure tourism can also be attributed to its strong Danao connection. I mean, Danao Mayor Gonzaga is a very close friend (college buddy) of Tourism Secretary Ace Durano of Danao City in Cebu.. In fairness, however, Mayor Gonzaga is a very active leader who has a clear vision for his town. He knows his town's advantage very well and maximizes it for his constituents."

it would imply a different tune.....murag ga una ang pagkalakas then secondary na ang leadership, vision ug hard work sa mga tao sa Danao sa ila na abot na karo.....

"di kaha naka tabang og tourism promotion o sa funding si Sec Durano?"

None at all.........from 2006 to until as of Launching wala......pero during sa launching DOT gave 600K......

sa pag conceptualize, sa pag planning, brain storming, execution, ug gasto all were LGU initiative....DOT was not involve in those activities....

When we did a fund raising activity.........we had to present the concept to Director Roa for her to send a Team from DOT Region 7 to assess the place......good thing DOT 7 saw our potential and sent the team.....pero LGU covered their transporation and food ni ani ha......Honestly speaking.......Director Roa would not have sent a team, if she thought the product we had was trash......

Tourism promotion was initiated by the LGU at their own cost with some help sa province........every chance they have they take media to Danao....every opportunity for media exposure were taken maskin unsa ka gamay..............Joined trade shows with the assistance of the province.....etc....

Before Sec. Durano's first visit .....we were already covered by media.....we were making headway na sa tourism sa bohol....check link below

http://www.sunstar.com.ph/blogs/pinoyoutlook/?p=91

http://www.ironwulf.net/2007/10/03/danao-bohols-new-adventure-mecca/

http://www.cebusmile.com/2007/10/01/action-holidays

100% pinoy covered Danao......

above exposure drew the attention of DOT Manila to us w/c made them consider to look at Danao as a possible venue for the turnover ceremony of Grants initiated by the DOT.....they wanted a place na new sa Tourism.........

They were skeptical at frist kay layo ug bati ang dalan when they did the Occular......but when they got to the place and saw the view sa viewing deck, tried/saw the number of activities there, and that naa na  facitlity to hold the ceremony.......they immediately decided na Danao was the place.....

By the time Sec. Durano went to Danao (may 1, 2008)......Danao was already pulling in Tourist......and had already a number of activiites in place....(Caving, River Trek, Kayaking, Tubing, Rappelling,....).......In fact on the day sa visit there was a group that nga caving and manage to meet up with the Secretary....check the link below

http://eatdanao.multiply.com/photos/album/60/DOT_Secretary_Ace_Durano......Turismo_ang_alas_laban_sa_kahirapan#107

His visit there was a good exposure for us.....pero the visit would not have happend,  if the LGU

1. did  not take the 15M risk to develop that park,
2. did not put the proper infrastructure......
2. did not properly conceptualize the Product,
3. Did not properly plan for it.
4. did not put the right people in the project,
5. did not execute it properly.....
6. Did not prepare the community....
7. etc.....

At best the biggest help the DOT gave us was believing in the product we had.....and gave us input on what to do and sent media people in our intial fund raising activities.........pero they sent a team because of the merits not because malakas si Tom sa kay Sec. Ace......

End of the day It was the the leadership of the mayor, his vision, Sacrifice sa LGU, hard work sa community that largely made EATDanao what it is right now.......of course with some supporting role of DOT and the Province......

"interesting remark...so cebuano diay ang kagikan ni mayor Tom? taga danao cebu na sya.  8)"

and your point is????

Dad ni Tom is from Magtangtang, Danao, Bohol.....and ang Mom ni Tom is from Calape-Tubigon.......100% bolanon....nag dako lang sa cebu kay diri sa cebu ang trabaho sa amahan.....

Unfair pud ni nga satement para kay tom and the people of Danao who worked their ass off for this project........In no way did the influence of Sec. Durano played a Major role in the success of EATDanao......it was all diskarte sa mayor......getting the funding, putting the right people sa project, etc......and the hard work and sacrifice sa mga tao didto sa Danao, Bohol.........Danao got the support sa DOT kay nindot ang ilang product.......

Even in talking to the DOT or any Gov't agency, Tom was adamant in going thru the proper channel.....no short cuts......he always wanted to get Gov't Agency support on the merits of the project........not because of palakasan system......

nothing beats good vision, good excecution, good product, good people and hard work......

mag himo nama gani ka ug sweeping generalization saktoha pud na oi......batch mate sila grade school ug early part sa high school.........and dili pud sila barkada at that time.......

Bottom line is we badly need that airport in order for Bohol to Grow…..We just need to make sure that the growth in the tourism industry is done in a sustainable manner and the money earned in tourism will trickle down to the grass roots level…..
How can you make sure that the growth in the tourism industry is done in a sustainable manner and the money earned in tourism will trickle down to the grass roots level???

good question will be how do we make sure that it is sustainable and money will trickle down to the grass roots levele..... Are we willing to toe the line?

On my part lang: i am toeing the line in my sphere of influence........i am part of a 2 man consultants (walay Bayad) that is helping Danao in setting up its Community Base Rural Tourism.....where we have determined that Adventure Tourism is best suited in that area....from caving, rappelling, river trek, kayaking, etc.......Community base meaning people in the general area are involved......Above tourism won't be sustainable if present destructive practice continues....destructive practices ranges from uling making, kaingin, poaching of animals......etc....We just can't tell these people to stop with out presenting them an alternative.....the alternative is Community Base Rural Tourism......by showing them that keeping the environment as pristine as possible is more valuable to them than destroyed..…..it is a continuous up hill battle pero we have made relative success in implementing the CBRT there……our next assignment is expand the Adventure Tourism to other barangays in the Danao…..

In order to be competitive in the Global Tourism Arena, Bohol has to have a International Airport on hand w/c a lot of major tourist destination already has in there general area of Operation..............(Bali, Phuket, etc......)......why do you think phuket and bali have over a million visitors a year? just imagine 1M tourist a year spending about $100 per day for an average stay of 3 days....thats about $300M to Bohols economy per year w/c directly goes to the stakeholders sa Bohol......

It would be nice if we could just expand that airport in tagbilaran but for safety reasons, limited space, etc….di na gyud pwede……that airport alone can safely handle limited number of plane at a time………w/c really hampers the volume of tourist coming in sa bohol……the best thing for that land is to sell it to a developer or JV with a developer (Ayala, Robinson, etc…..)….a great way for other group to come in to break the “monopoly” sa few rich people in bohol…ug maka augment na sa cost sa new airport…… pero the development should be limited to Tourism, Retirement villages, BPO (call center) and their should be a limit on the height of the building and stipulate also the environment safety should be in place……etc

Majority of the foreign tourist prefers the direct flight from their destination so they can maximize their travel time….....w/c both Bali and Phuket has.......kapoy baya na ug sige balhin ug plane……… people I know (pinoy ug foreigner) na naka adto na sa Bali and phuket….one thing lang gyud ila ika sulti……Bohol is far better…..

In the short term that airport would be losing but......it would prove a good investment in the long term.....best example would be Mactan International Airport...they had to put up the first bridge for that ha.....look at where cebu is now????………..the leader back then was lambasted by a lot of people in implementing such project……pero now he has proven them wrong….that is what you call foresight……

The problem with certain infrastructures that handles volume gani (power, telecome, water, Aiprot, etc) you need to build them way before the volume is there na……kay if you wait for the volume to arrive to late na cya or worst that volume will never come….they would be suck in by other palyers (Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, etc…)…… That is why we need that airport built yesterday pa………….

Smart/Globe put in the infrastructure way before their volume was needed look at where they are now………if your travel a lot, you would prefer to have a phone company that has the widest coverage….w/c mean the one that has the most infrastructure invested…….

Our Power Industry waits for the volume to be there before building the power plants….where did it take us??? Power Crisis w/c led to higher power cost……

eatdanao, I must say you picked quite a lot of good points here especially comparing to Cebu. It will be a big compitition against Cebu and I don't think they will like it.

It's easy to say and imagine but when you're there it's hard to do. In other words, it's not easy as it looks.

But again, Boholanos are very courageous and  whoever plans this, better planned it darn good.

I don't see it a a cometition with cebu.....actually we complement with each other.....Cebu as a night life, shopping, Casinos, etc...and Bohol as more on the eco tourism side..country tour, adventure tour...etc...Tourist can enter Cebu then exit bohol or eneter bohol then exit cebu......

"Sa lahat ng mga indio, ang mga taga-Bohol ang pinaka-mabangis at pinaka-magiting..."
SJ, Historia de la provincia de Philipinas de la compania de Jesus, Manila, 1747
