Yeah, I dont think tourist want to have a noisy airport around, not either all traffic to a airport. its mean of course more tourism to Panglao, but still they have big problem with the water system even if its had been better. Its breakish salty water still. Anyway, for its give more tourism to Bohol. A small charming island can easy been destroyed by pollution and all traffic.

But Bohol have so many hidden pearls who soon other also have a chance to see.  :)

Its really sad.

I think we should be careful to compare criminal statistic. Since different countries have different policing and judicial systems, different trust schemes, non-democratic system and other countries, corruption is deeply rooted.

Only in the U.S. it differs greatly between states, on how the judiciary works and how successful they are in solving crimes.

I also think that crime statistics should be distinguished from those which are fixed accommodation and tourist guests. Similarly, if crime is between the local or the tourist guests, etc.. Many murders are often related in families or ring of friends, by someone you know or are familiar with.

As long as a country has a high level of corruption will never be the judiciary that has credibility. Therefore, a corrupt society never survive like a healthy and good society for the people self who feed the system. It takes several generations and the Philippines have a long too way to go.

By the way, someone who knows about the old murders cases of foreigners is solved to the satisfaction of the system satisfactorily, the American who was murdered in Valencia and the German in Baclayon?

A murder is always too much and should never be justified, regardless of race or class.

Martin, of course.

I am not surprised over the level of police work... My last visit I meet tree police man sitting in the Purok with uniform and drinking tuba at Bohol.  I know now that many here at the forum going to be upset on me, but its shocking for a forgeiner to see this happen. I understand why people dont report criminal things, thats also a way to say its low crime level,,

Bohol and the people there had earlier do me very proud and glad, I had always look at it like something special, far away from criminal and unsafe. I had plan to stay there now 6 months from first week of May, but I really need to thinking if thats a bad situation for me and my families safe.

Peace

Priscilla, thanks for your engangemang and the pathos.

What is now happening in Bohol against us foreigners is terrible. I can now not feel the same security or the pride of Bohol, although I have most of my friends there.

A couple of my foreign friends have already after attack against Steve canceled their travel plans to Bohol and the Philippines. Now I self feel this its not the same place anymore.

Yeah, The situation is differnet with Vietnam and Iraq. I had never compare them.. And still in April 2009 people from Iraq apply for refuges status in different countries....

Hofelina, yeah Pres Obama he wish to close the Guantanamo base.

Many country leader in the world had press Obama to that too, probably thats why some of them come and stay in different countries prison. Many of them had not got an international court hearing, contrary to the international legal system. I am not familiar with it but I think some cases should be examined in the War Crimes Tribunal.

I dont agree with you,, If a country have enough money to start war,, they need to have afford to rebuild too... A big level of illegal immigrants its more a question about bad politicans.

To discuss on the level on airplanes tickets,, no, for me its a bigger and higher level than that,, So I drop that level of discussion there,, After 3 years in position to handle immigrants issue, at the immigration board..

I respect your opinion, but I really dont share it! I really suffer with the iraq people and to leave your country in war, its really nothing you dream about, they always live with the dream to move back, and a high number of them had also done that now.

I am self a "immigrant" with 3 residence status in 3 different countries, because of my job, its something else,,,, to help people in need, I think I have afford to pay around 40 % in taxes,, when other dont have food, clothes and no peace coz of the war..

Cheers

Yeah, I know the war cost, like tax payer in US, Philippines and in a European country, at the same time! But US had self been the active part in the war, so of course they need to talk the costs too.

But still had US not follow the commitment to clean up in Vietnamn after the war! I had work there with aid progam in the old military zones, for other international organizations than americans!

No, I am not really proud!

Its important to know the differenc between the statistic,, I dont talk about illegal immigrant, I talk about reguges,, its a big diffrent! And the goverment in US had just, for 3 weeks ago, self sign a commitment with the worlds leader to help the Irakq people to apply reguges status to US..

When someone apply for refuges status its a legal process with criteria who can use it or not.  Dont mix refuges and illegal immigrants statistic, its big different. My statistic its about refuges status,,

The statistic also show, that many Iraq people who had got refuges status in europe now had move back to Irak, because they want to be there and build up the new country. Actually the highest statistic to move back are just the iraq people,,,

However, many other countries with refugee assistance and refugee reception.

Take the example that the U.S. has received only 190 Iraqi refugees until November 2008, while small countries in Europe, with over 9 environment's own people have opened doors to some 20 000 Iraqi refugees! Obama has said that the U.S. must open up to about 7000 Iraqi refugees, but it is going slow, I believe,,, So the war costs have been biased towards the other countries in the world .. :-X

Hofelina, I don’t disagree your post... My reply was to Calles point!

I am not a Filipina or balikbayan, I am a "resident status", married with another resident, who is heritage from Bohol! We live in Philippines part time and run our company there. I know very well the situation and culture pattern in Philippines,, With "new eyes and experience" from at least 4 different cultures I think I know what I am talking about!

Yeah of course I never buy alcohol beverage to teenager, I am teetotaler self.

Calle,,, Philippines is one of the world's most corrupt countries in the world, in 10 of the top list.

Corruption is not something that comes overnight, it has been around for generations. With a "coin or two", you get everything fixed!

I exposed to blackmail every time is in Filipppinerna, it has happened to the beginning of the customs officials who are looking in the bag for things they would like to have from me, any time the bottle of wine to the grandmother. Then you get an extended visa up to one year if you give the lady a lechon! Corruption is widespread Calle, also at Bohol!

The purok´s is full by young beer drinking teenager in many barangays, I had also notice that many generations are already loosed because of this lifestyle.

I love the people at Bohol but to describe it like a paradise its not what true in my eyes, after I had live in four countries both in cities and villages! Its the native people who self need to work for democratcy and still fighting for a good future for their kids.

Also my friends had book a two weeks travel to Philippines. I had help them to book a hotel at Alona beach for 3 nights and also book 2 daytours for them at Bohol. They had also plan to visit Bagiuo and Moalboal. This morning I got a email from them, they told me that they are going to cancel the vacation to Philippines, beacuse of all who happen in Philippines the last months against foreginer.

Its a really sad but I understand them.

About Obama and what’s happen.... My husband was classmate with Obama in Indonesia under one year, it was an International school with students from the whole world, some of them was Filipinos,  the guys say, he is a good man.

I can already see what the Obama influence going to affect my friend’s situation here in US. Obama want a new tax system for companies who also have divisions outside US.
Its already mean at least four companies around me here going to move abroad now. I am well familiar with those companies.  Two of the companies had already prepared for a move,  if Obama come to a president position, now its fact and 260 employees loose theirs job, some of them are Filipinos. The two other companies around me who going to move abroad after 1 July, its mean 1 400 employees loose their jobs too, becuase of his plans for a new taxsystem for companies who also have divisions outside US.

One of this employees told me after the election, -I’m voted with my heart because I believe Obama going to be good for US but not for my pocket!

Anyway, it’s going to be a interesting time to see if US now are able to solve the big problems, we are many who are optimistic,,,
