Army intercedes ‘Bloody Clan War’ in Pikit, Cotabato Province

CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – An Army contingent from the 90th Infantry (Bigkis-Lahi) Battalion pacified the "rido," or clan war, between two warring Moro groups in Sitio Galigayanan, part of Macabual village in Pikit, Cotabato.

The Commanding Officer of 90IB, together with the local police and officials from the local government unit of Pikit, members of the municipal peace and order council, along with some Moro elders, has been working out and negotiations are being conducted to resolve the entanglement and to prevent the two warring groups from clashing again.

It was recalled that in the early morning of August 11, 2022, a firefight erupted between the two warring groups under the control of Bugdad Matalam Akas and Commander Walid Mamasamlang of the 108th Based Command. Both are members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Force under the organization of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

"In the said encounter, three of Commander Walid's group were killed, identified as Ronie Dilanalan, Mama Dilanalan, and Makron Baguinda; all are residents of the said barangay; another wounded was alias Alinor, also a resident of the said barangay and belongs to Bugdad's group. Lt. Col. Rommel T. Mundala, Commanding Officer of 90IB, said that a civilian identified as Lito Quiñones was killed in a crossfire while Ronald Mercado was injured in the said firefight; both are residents of the aforementioned barangay.

Brigadier General Jovencio F Gonzales, Commander, 602nd (Liberator) Brigade, underscored the role of the military, which is committed to restoring stability and normalcy in the area. "We are grateful to both parties for agreeing to settle their misunderstanding; thereby, it will benefit the residents of Brgy. Macabual who are the victims of violence due to armed conflict," BGen. Gonzales stressed.

Major General Roy M Galido, Commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, immediately directed his personnel to collaborate with the local police and other security forces to activate mechanisms on how to peacefully address this conflict that is causing havoc to the localities. "Bukod dito, ay nakipag-ugnayan na rin tayo sa MILF at GPH CCCH to conciliate the situation," MGen. Galido stated.

"I call on everyone involved in a clan war or family feud to end this "rido" because I believe there is nothing good that the "rido" can bring to us but the continued struggle of families over racial depletion without obtaining justice," MGen. Galido stressed. He also underlined that the government has various community-based initiatives and the peace-building efforts of a broad network of civil society organizations in promoting dialogues among residents, armed groups, and feuding families that have contributed a lot to defusing armed tensions.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
