Legarda continues to help La Union

Weaving communities in the municipalities of Bangar, Bauang and Bacnotan were among the participants in various national trade fairs such as the National Arts and Crafts Fair organized by the Department of Trade and Industry, and trade exhibits organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), both supported by the Office of Deputy Speaker Legarda.
Legarda also provided support to the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) for the equipment and supplies for their sericulture program in line with the development of silk industry in the province. The former Senator also helped in the improvement of silkworm rearing houses, procurement of cocoon production, fabrication of weaving looms, and repair of the weaving house of the Sapilang Weavers’ Association.
In coordination with the DMMMSU, Legarda also sponsored the establishment of mulberry production, cocoon production, mulberry farm, silkworm rearing, and in-house and on-farm sericulture technology immersion assistance.
“La Union has great eco and heritage tourism potential with many weaving communities you can find even in the homes of the residents. I have always admired the creativity, ingenuity and craftsmanship of the people of La Union. This is why I never stopped supporting the province which began since I was a Senator. The province's own glory is seen in the weaves that they make and the crafts they produce,” said Legarda.
Legarda also provided support for the local legislators and educators of the province to participate in the trainings and workshops organized by the Development Academy of the Philippines to further strengthen their knowledge in policymaking and good governance.
“The province is gifted with amazing people and rich heritage. It is only fitting that we give them the adequate support and assistance they need to promote their crafts and their assets. My support for the Province of La Union and the Ilocos region remains strong. Rest assured that I will continue to be the province’s ally and supporter as I have always been,” Legarda concluded.
