PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEED YOUNGER, ENERGETIC, COMPASSIONATE PRINCIPALS Early retirement package for principals proposed to enable young teachers to move up
More principals who are young, compassionate, energetic, and supportive of campus journalism are needed to transform our public schools into effective learning and public service centers.
Principals are the Education Department’s frontline troop leaders. We need them present most of the time at their schools and at the barangays their schools serve, not somewhere else most of the time attending meetings.
We need principals who have a lot of contact time with their teachers and parents of students.
If the principal is not at school more than two days during any five-day school week, that principal may not be able to adequately attend to the many concerns of the school.
We also want principals who make sure government accounting, auditing, and transparency standards are followed.
To enable the young teachers to move up to become principals, I am proposing an early retirement and financial empowerment program that will entice principals to retire early and make them employment-generating entrepreneurs, so they will remain productive citizens even during retirement.
