DISMISSED COP NABBED FOR EXTORTION

A dismissed policeman engaged in extortion activities victimizing fish traders at the Navotas Fishport was wounded and arrested in an entrapment operation launched by the operatives of the PNP Maritime Group.

Don De Quiroz Osias, 39, formerly a PNP member assigned in NCRPO was shot in the leg by arresting police officers of the Regional Maritime Unit-NCR that conducted the entrapment operations at 8:30 PM last December 4, 2020 along Bañera St., Navotas Fish Port Complex, Barangay North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas City.

“Under the PNP internal cleansing program, any report of irregularity and misconduct by police personnel wil be dealt with swiftly and decisively, no matter who is involved,” PNP Chief, Police General Debold M Sinas emphasized.

Reports from Maritime Group Director Police Brig Gen Omega Jireh Fidel said Osias, who was misrepresenting himself as a member of the PNP Maritime Group, has been the subject of complaints from four drivers of fish delivery trucks at the fishport for alleged extortion activities.

Acting on these complaints, Fidel said operatives of RMU-NCR under Police Colonel Ricardo E Villanueva fielded undercover operatives disguised as truck helpers to entrap the suspect.

Undercover operatives pounced on Osias after receiving the marked money. He initially resisted and was subdued with a shot to the leg when gestured to be reaching for something from his waistband, the report said.

"I commend the police operatives for these risk-taking efforts just to run after anyone who tries to besmirch the gains of many good cops and our agency at large", Sinas said.
Cases for Robbery/Extortion, Direct Assault, Resisting Arrest and Usurpation of Authority were filed against Osias before the City Prosecutor's Office of Navotas City.
