Press Release: PNP RESCUES KIDNAPPED TAIWANESE IN CAVITE

Swift police action led to the safe rescue of a kidnapped Taiwanese and the arrest of two Chinese suspects in Cavite on New Year’s eve.

In his report to PNP chief, Police General Debold M Sinas, Anti-Kidnapping Group head Police Brigadier General Jonel Estomo said victim Chen Yen Shau was freed in a daring rescue operation by the AKG based on information shared by Mr. Jerry Wang, a representative from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.

AKG operatives led by Police Colonel Villaflor Bannawagan and Police Major Erving Chan stormed the kidnappers’ safehouse at Villa Emmanuelle Town Homes, Barangay Toclong 2B, Imus, Cavite at 6:50 PM on Thursday and rescued the victim unharmed.

Two male Chinese suspects were arrested in the operation, their identities are yet to be established by AKG investigators while documentation is underway. According to initial investigation Mr Chen called his mother in Taiwan to inform her that he was detained and "beaten badly" because he owed the group 9 million pesos and asked his mother to send the said amount of money in exchange for his release.

Meanwhile, TECO Jerry Wang expressed appreciation to General Sinas for the PNP assistance in rescuing Mr. Chen from the hands of the kidnappers. "In behalf of Taiwan police, I admire the excellent and matchless performance from the PNP-AKG which led to the successful rescue operation and effectiveness in delivering police services to the victim on last day of 2020", Wang said.

According to Wang, the PNP has rescued more than 32 Taiwan nationals over the past 3 years.
