Philippine Army pays tribute to former Army Chiefs

Press Release: The Philippine Army honored former commanding generals who took helm of the organization in a tribute ceremony at the Philippine Army Officers Clubhouse, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on March 18, 2022.

The ceremony, which is part of the month-long series of events to commemorate the Philippine Army’s 125th founding anniversary, commemorated the heroism and contributions to the organizations of the past Army Chiefs.

Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt.  Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., led the tribute ceremony for 14 former Army Chiefs who personally attended the event: Maj. Gen. Manuel V. Cacanando (Ret.), 31st CGPA; Gen. Clemente P. Mariano (Ret.), 37th CGPA; Lt. Gen. Raul S. Urgello (Ret.), 38th CGPA; Lt. Gen. Voltaire T. Gazmin (Ret.), 40th CGPA; Lt. Gen. Jaime S. De Los Santos (Ret.), 42nd CGPA; Gen. Dionisio R. Santiago (Ret.), 43rd CGPA; Gen. Generoso S. Senga (Ret.), 46th CGPA; Sec. Hermogenes C. Esperon, Jr.(Ret.), 47th CGPA; Gen. Alexander B. Yano (Ret), 49th CGPA; Gen. Victor S. Ibrado (Ret), 50th CGPA; Lt. Gen. Arturo B. Ortiz (Ret), 53rd CGPA; Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista (Ret), 54th CGPA; Gen. Hernando DCA Iriberri (Ret), 56th CGPA; and Lt. Gen. Glorioso V. Miranda (Ret), 58th CGPA.

They received a Kapitan Heneral Artemio Ricarte statuette and “Warriors and Heroes: 125 Years of Championing Peace,” a coffee table book that pays tribute to soldiers who traded life’s comforts in exchange of serving the people and securing the land.

“As we near the commemoration of the 125th Philippine Army founding anniversary, we in the active service would also like to pay tribute to our former commanding generals who are not only part of our organization’s storied past but are also the leaders who have help shaped the Army’s glorious history,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said.

“We pay homage to 64 former exemplary Filipinos who have stood as vanguard of the Army’s core values of honor, patriotism, duty…Your guidance has helped make the organization one of the most trusted government institutions in the country today,” Lt. Gen. Brawner remarked.
