Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Francisco G. Datol wants implementors of the P500 per month seniors' social pension to explain why many beneficiaries have not yet received their grants from 2019.
Datol said the party-list received "numerous reports" of delayed release of their seniors' monthly pension.
"Those reports prompted us to file House Resolution 656 calling for a House investigation. I hope it does not have to come to that. We just want the funds released and accountability from DSWD, the implementing agency," said Datol, Chair of the House Special Committee on Senior Citizens.
In 2019, 3,796,791 indigent seniors were supposed to receive their pensions. P23 Billion has been allocated in the proposed 2019 national budget to finance the Social Pension Program for Indigent Senior Citizens.
"Enough time has passed since the impact of the delayed budget last year. DSWD should have released the pension funds by now," Datol said. (END)
