𝗕𝗢𝗖 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗛𝗣 𝟮 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗶𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀
Press Release: As part of the intensified efforts against smuggling & proliferation of counterfeit goods, the Bureau of Customs through Intelligence Group's Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) – Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) under the Intelligence Group and Port of Manila District Office (POM-DO) seized various counterfeit items in Baclaran, Paranaque City on June 03, 2021.
Armed with a Letter of Authority (LOA) and Mission Order (MO) signed by Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, IPRD and POM-DO personnel inspected storage facilities and discovered various items bearing known registered trademarks such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Onitsuka Tiger, Vans, Adidas, Nike, JBL, Sony, Jordan. The team also discovered counterfeit personal care products such as Cetaphil, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Vaseline, Jergens, Dove, Nivea, Glutamax, Kojic, Joe Malone, Bulgari, D&G, Channel, Victoria’s Secret, Hugo Boss, and Clinique.
The imported items were seized for the possible violation of Section 118 (f) of the RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and RA 8293 also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (IPCP).
The seizure is one of the Bureau's biggest seizures of counterfeit goods in 2021. The Bureau also stressed that fake perfumes, cosmetic and beauty products may contain toxic chemicals that may be harmful to health.
As the Bureau gears towards a more modern and streamlined Customs Organization, BOC-IG shall endeavor to enforce anti-smuggling and border security efforts which are in line with the directive of BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.
