MinDA to launch ‘VolunTurismo’ Project in Siargao
Davao City – Eight months after typhoon Odette, the Mindanao Development Authority is set to launch the VolunTurismo Project in Siargao Island on August 16, 2022.
The said project is part of the rehabilitation and recovery initiatives being pushed by MinDA to help the local economy of Siargao Island bounce back post-Odette.
Joey Recimilla, MinDA Policy, Planning, and Project Development Office Director, calls on the public to support the endeavor.
“On behalf of MinDA, I am cordially inviting everyone to join the launching of VolunTurismo this coming August 16, 2022 in the Surfing Capital of the Philippines, Siargao Island,” he said.
As MinDA and the local government unit of Siargao gears up for the said event, he urges everyone to help in this community volunteer work, as it seen to bring back the vibrant tourism industry on the Island.
“I encourage all of you to support our cause in helping the beautiful island of Siargao recover,” he added.
The line-up of activities for the environment includes mangrove tree planting and beach clean-up.
Meanwhile, stress debriefing and psychosocial interventions for children such as poster making contest, ‘palarong pinoy’, and storytelling shall also be organized.
On the sideline, MinDA shall conduct a tourism planning workshop to be participated in by Siargao’s municipal planning and tourism officers.
This aims to capacitate the concerned participants in ensuring the sustainability of the islands’ natural resources, through an integrated area development approach.
‘VolunTourism’ is a combination of volunteer and tourism, whereby travelers participate in voluntary work, typically for charity.
MinDA is spearheading this initiative to boost more income-generating activities and revitalize the tourism industry, which is the major economic driver of Siargao Island. #
