EARLIER: The Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation led by Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada conducts the first deliberation of the proposed bills on the Magna Carta for Public DRRM Workers and the Declaration of State of Imminent Disaster.
The said legislative measures were formulated through the Office of Civil Defense's initiative in consultation with concerned stakeholders.
In February and May this year, both bills were approved by the Committee on Disaster Resilience in the House of Representatives
Asec. Bernardo Rafaelito R. Alejandro IV led the OCD delegation in the said hearing, manifesting the agency's urge for the passage of both measures to ensure the rights and benefits of public DRRM workers and the establishment of a mechanism that will institutionalize Anticipatory Action in the country.
A technical working group meeting will be conducted as a way forward of the said deliberation to polish the provisions of both measures prior to Committee approval and endorsement for second reading at the plenary.
