News Release: LTFRB Law Enforcement Team led by Executive Director Maria Kristina Cassion conducted enforcement activities in Fairview Quezon City and in Marcos Highway, Pasig City this morning, following reports that PUJ drivers were overcharging fares ranging from P10.00 to as much as P15.00 minimum fare.
This, despite the fact that the LTFRB is yet to resolve the various petitions for fare hike it received from groups of operators.
During the enforcement activity, the team interviewed passengers to verify the reports of overcharging. Some passengers admitted during the past days, drivers were really overarching but today the fares were back to normal. Several passengers however said they purposely give P10.00 as they also understand that fuel prices are already getting higher.
On the other hand, drivers were reminded that the minimum fare is still P9.00 and that the offense of overcharging carries with it a penalty of P5,000 for the first offense. They however said they were confused because one of their leaders announced that the P10.00 was already approved by the LTFRB and that they reverted back to the original fare after LTFRB gave clarifications it was not true.
Enforcers also reminded passengers and drivers to always follow health and safety protocols.
