BREAKING NEWS: PAWIKAN HATCHLINGS RELEASE, setting free the turtles.
Baby turtles of the Green Sea Turtle specie take to the sea moments after their release by employees of City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) led by CENRO Chief Ms. Vivian Bahalla together with the residence from Garinan led by Ms Milagros Calumpang, the Chairman of City Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC) who is the one who take care the Pawikan from nesting until it hatched. This is in the shoreline of Garinan coastal community in Barangay Madaum. The 95 newly-hatched green sea turtle (Chilonia Mydas) or “pawikan” nesting site at Purok 26 Sitio Garinan, nesting date Dec 24, 2019 and hatching emerging date February 16, 2020 (12:00am to 3:am), released this afternoon Sunday, February 16 @6PM. The cold months of December until February are the usual nesting time for the pawikan who return to lay eggs in the same area where they were hatched.
Pawikans have found a home in the city, let us do our share in protecting their home which is also ours. Many different species thrive in this place thus it is worth protecting to keep biodiversity and let the future generations witness how wonderful sea turtles are
