The Bureau of Customs Port of Cagayan de Oro launched its two Fast-Patrol Boats in Opol Port, Brgy. Luyong Bonbon, Opol, Misamis Oriental on May 17, 2022.
The launching was graced by SP/Major Danielo S. Gonzales, OIC, Water Patrol Division-ESS and officials of the Bureau of Customs Port of Cagayan de Oro led by Atty. Elvira Cruz, District Collector; SP/Capt. Abdila Maulana Jr., Commander, ESS-CDO; Elizabeth Delas Llagas, Deputy Collector for Operations; Atty. Roswald Joseph Pague, Deputy Collector for Administration; Oliver Valiente, Chief, CIIS CDO and SP/Lt. Arkhan Macaombang, Deputy Commander, ESS-CDO.
Other guests were Opol Municipal Mayor Max Seno, representatives of partner law enforcement agencies from PDEA, PNP-Maritime and Philippine Ports Authority.
Fr. Remel Mag-usara, Rector of Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine also led the blessing ceremony of the Patrol Boats.
The modern vessel is equipped with three engines which has a top speed of 45 knots ideal for pursuit operations in the sea.
This is part of the 20 Patrol Boats newly procured by the Bureau of Customs, stationed in every BOC ports all over the country and will be manned by ESS personnel under the Water Patrol Division.
SP/Major Danielo S. Gonzales during the media forum stressed that aside from strengthening the maritime border security, the Patrol Boats will also be utilized in the boarding formalities to help enhance trade facilitation.
The PDEA and other law enforcement agencies also showed their support in terms of coordination and training in interdiction operations against smuggling.
“Actually this will be equipped with 50-caliber firearm including short fire-arms and we are requesting that for our maritime security,” said SP/Major Gonzales.
Atty. Elvira Cruz, District Collector in her message thanked Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero for this initiative which is the first maritime asset of the Port of Cagayan de Oro.
“The strengthening of our water assets is in line with the BOC’s commitment to enhance our border security measures,” said Atty. Cruz.
