Bohol Governor Yap partners with SPARK! in 2020 for women empowerment programs

Press Release: Provincial Governor of Bohol Arthur Yap continues partnership with gender equality organization SPARK! Philippines for the province’s women’s economic empowerment and gender and development programs this year. Governor Yap, a known women’s rights advocate, believes in the significant roles of women in both informal and formal economy and enabling them further will lead to the economic progress of the community.

Governor Yap first collaborated with SPARK! in July 2019 for the Workshop for Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs in Bohol, a 3-day capacity building that is focused on developing the basic competencies needed by aspiring entrepreneurs which include the evaluation of business ideas, creation of a business plan, and lecture of key business principles. This was also in partnership with Angat Buhay, an initiative of the Office of the Vice-President and the J.Amado Araneta Foundation which gave the seed grant to each woman entrepreneur in the workshop.

The results of the program served as an indicator for Governor Yap and SPARK! to implement 2 more entrepreneurship boot camps in Bohol this year. With support from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Workshop for Aspiring Female Entrepreneurs for women who are victim-survivors of gender-based violence, women from indigenous cultural communities, and women rebel returnees was held from 18 to 21 February. The New Zealand Embassy funded-program called AWEB or Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs Bootcamp, on the other hand, had its Visayas leg in the province from 26 to 28 February.

Both programs had a mix of learning methods such as presentations, discussions, and break-out sessions to ensure an engaging and pro-active activity alongside consultations with established entrepreneurs from the province. At the end of each training, each participant was awarded a seed grant for them to realize their business plans and will be subjected to monitoring and evaluation in the next 12 months. The implementation is in collaboration with the Bohol Investment Promotion Center, the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dalareich Food Products, and Ginto Chocolates.

“You are inspiring me. Kamo ang nakahatag ug inspirasyon nako (You all inspired me),” said Governor Yap during the awarding and closing ceremony of the Workshop for Aspiring Female Entrepreneurs. Governor Yap expressed praise for the program and interest in replicating it for the benefit of the women of Bohol. The ceremony was also joined by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ Senior Political Officer Atty. Jaymie Reyes. Governor Yap also joined the awarding and closing ceremony of the Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs Bootcamp along with SPARK! Philippines Trustee Maribel Teves-Quimson.

“I thank each and every one of you for participating wholeheartedly during this workshop, and I wish you all the best as you go out into the world with new skills, knowledge, and friendships,” said Mrs. Quimson during the Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs Bootcamp’s awarding and closing ceremony. New Zealand Embassy Ambassador-Designate H.E. Peter Kell extended his congratulations and well-wishes to the participants through a video message.

“These workshops are truly a blessing. SPARK! was and is a big part of my journey as an entrepreneur, and I hope they will be a part of yours as well,” said Dalareich Polot of Ginto Chocolates. Both activities leaned heavily upon the Bohol Investment Promotion Center, and the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Through Ms. Polot, SPARK! was able to connect with various Bohol-based entrepreneurs to serve as speakers, mentors, business pitch competition judges, such as Reginald Ong, Engr. Albert Uy, Mayette Sarabia-Gasatan, Tata Velloso, Atty. Jun Amora, and Rolaine Uy of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Joy Angeli Uy, Engr. Allen Varquez, and Rommel Gonzales of the Bohol Association of Hotels, Resorts, and Restaurants; Elsa Polot of Dalareich Tableya; Junalyn Alivio of the Boholana Essentials; Nizah Bagares of Fred’s Book Cafe; Joan Caturza of JJ’s Seafood Village; Ma. John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
