COPS FOIL P1-M SEX SCANDAL BLACKMAIL TRY BY EX-LOVER
The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Women and Children Cybercrime Protection Unit (WCCPU), in coordination with the Southern Police District, arrested a 30-year-old male suspect for extorting cash amounting to P1 million from a former lover.
Police report reveals that the suspect was blackmailing the lady victim by exposing their photos and sex videos online.
The suspect, Jerson Pantaleon, was nabbed in an entrapment operation in Taguig City on February 17, for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence Against Women and Children and Robbery Extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
The complaint came from his 60-year-old ex-girlfriend who sought police intervention regarding the actions of the suspect.
In order to mislead the victim from thinking that he was the person behind the said extortion, the suspect created a fictitious person and sent out extortion messages to himself using a different sim card number to make it appear that he too, was being extorted.
”As the report shows, the suspect tried to deceive the victim but due to the technical capability of our personnel, they were able to trace the suspect and outsmarted him. The landscape of criminality has been extending to the internet or technology at large, so we have to double our efforts in learning the ropes,” PNP Chief General Dionardo Carlos said while emphasizing how the organization should embrace advanced strategies in preventing crimes.
