Press Release602nd Brigade Rides for Peace and Unity
CARMEN, Cotabato - A 34-kilometer BIKE for Peace event initiated by the 602nd Infantry Brigade was held last Monday, November 02, 2020. The race was participated by the brigade’s operational control units and hundreds of cycling enthusiasts from different sectors of the
community. The 34km bike race route started from the Provincial Capitol Grounds in Amas, Kidapawan City passing through the municipalities of Matalam, Kabacan, and Carmen where the Headquarters of 602nd Infantry Brigade (Camp Lucero) is located. BGen Roberto S. Capulong, Commander of the 602nd Brigade, emphasized the significance of the event as he encouraged the participating bikers to ride safely and enjoy the sun during the opening program of the event. In his speech just before the bike race started he said, that the 34KM signifies the 34 years of dedicated and selfless service of the Brigade. The BIKE FOR PEACE which means “Bawat Isa, Kasama at Ehemplo para sa Kapayapaan connotes that long lasting peace and unity can only be forged when we act as a community. Let’s ride safe and let’s ride for peace!â€.
The event was set in
motion as a way to improve the community relations of the 602nd Infantry Brigade in line with its 34th Founding Anniversary Celebration. The BIKE For Peace’s main goal is to promote peace and unity in the community. This act of joint action marks the collaborative work of the different sectors to maintain peace and unity in the area. Bishop Jose Colin M. Bagaforo of the Diocese of Kidapawan challenged all the participants with these words, “Kung ibig nating makamit ang tunay na kapayapaan, dapat mayroon tayong apat na S. Solidarity, Sincerity, Sustainability at Spirituality. Kapag wala tayong takot sa Diyos hindi natin makakamit ang kapayapaan. Dapat ang ating adhikain na kapayapaan must be rooted and anchored on our spirituality.â€
A short closing program was held at Camp Lucero grounds to award prizes to commendable participants. The event also highlights the launching of the commemorative 34th Anniversary pin. “602nd Brigade is for Peace, #Sana all†The pin is the symbol of the peace advocacy of the Brigade which will be part of the uniform of the Liberator Troopers. White doves were released soon after to commemorate the hopes and ideals of the entire community for continued peace and harmony among and within the different groups and tribes in the area. Hon. Rudy S. Caoagdan, Representative 2nd district, Province of Cotabato, expressed his gratitude to 602nd Brigade in helping keep the peace in the province as he emphasized the clear partnership and strong relationship of the Brigade with the Local Government Unit and all sectors in Cotabato Province. BGen Roberto S. Capulong formally closed the event by thanking all who participated in the bike race and reminded everyone of each other’s responsibility in further keeping the peace in the area.
