Northern Samar Governor, local leaders endorse VP Leni for President
Press Release: Northern Samar Governor Edwin Ongchuan expressed his wholehearted support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid in a statement released on his personal Facebook account today, March 15.
“In consultation with our local leaders, and after assessment of the character and track record of all presidential aspirants, it came to our collective discernment that the candidate who best fits [the qualities of a president as stated by President Duterte] is VP Leni Robredo,” Governor Ongchuan said.
Governor Ongchuan, who is the chairperson of the National Unity Party in the province, has the backing of the local leaders as almost all of the 24 incumbent mayors in Northern Samar are members of the party, along with the district congressmen and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
Laoang Mayor Harris Ongchuan who is running as congressman of the province’s second district, and First District Congressman Paul Daza, who is on his reelection bid, had also expressed their support for VP Leni’s run for presidency. These endorsements aim to consolidate Northern Samar for VP Leni, who previously won in the province during the 2016 elections for her current post.
“With her kind of leadership, we believe that VP Leni will be beside us in our efforts for Sustained Progress (in Northern Samar),” Gov. Ongchuan added.
Gov. Ongchuan is in agreement with President Rodrigo Duterte that the next President of the Republic should be compassionate, decisive and a good judge of people’s character. It can also be recalled that the president also prefers a lawyer to be the president, of which VP Leni is the only one among the top 5 candidates.
As depicted in various Facebook posts, local officials and supporters are currently preparing for a grand rally for VP Leni as she is set to visit the province later this month.
