Press Release: PCG ACCORDS SKIPPER’S FAREWELL CRUISE CEREMONY FOR CG COMMODORE BERGANTIN
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has accorded a Skipper’s Farewell Cruise Ceremony for the District Commander of the Coast Guard District Bicol, CG Commodore Giovanni G Bergantin in honor of his accomplishments and contributions during his assignment aboard ship at Pier 13, Port Area, Manila today, 11 March 2022.
CG Commodore Bergantin will be retiring on 24 March 2022 after 32 years and 10 months of public service.
He earned the most coveted COMMAND AT SEA BADGE after successfully commanding two PCG search and rescue vessels (SARV) namely, BRP Davao Del Norte (SARV-3504) and BRP Corregidor (AE-891). He also served as Acting Commanding Officer of other PCG vessels.
In his speech, CG Commo Bergantin conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to the men and women of the PCG District Bicol and the Coast Guard Fleet who organized the ceremony.
The Skipper's Farewell Cruise Ceremony emphasized the participation of his oceanic majesty King Neptune as the Presiding Officer, graced by his wife, Queen Amphitrite, the King’s Herald, and Davy Jones played by the crew of the BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) and the Coast Guard Fleet personnel. The concept and characters were based on the ceremonial Equator-Crossing tradition for shellbacks.
Coast Guard Fleet Commander, CG Rear Admiral Allan Victor T Dela Vega presided over the said ceremony. CG Commodore Bergantin commanded and maneuvered BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301) from Pier 13 to Manila Bay and back.
While underway, King Neptune summoned the honoree for the ceremonial awarding of the “IMPERIVM NEPTVNI REGIS” certificate for his sterling accomplishments as a PCG skipper.
A certificate of “WIFE EMERITUS” was also awarded to Mrs. Sharina Bergantin for carrying out her duties to CG Commodore Bergantin.
Afterward, CG Rear Admiral Dela Vega led the ceremonial toast which marked the conclusion of the ceremony.
