𝗕𝗢𝗖 𝗦𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Press Release - The Bureau of Customs (BOC), through the initiative of the Bureau’s Action Team Against Smugglers (BATAS) and the Port of Manila (POM), filed criminal charges against importers and customs brokers involved in the misdeclaration of used cargo trucks and general merchandise worth P4.39 million.
A criminal case was filed against G ARABIA PLATINUM CONSTR. AND DEV. CO. and its customs brokers who allegedly misdeclared and imported three (3) 2018 cargo trucks without the required DTI- Certificate of Authority to Import. The cargo trucks amounting to P2.44 million were shipped last December 14, 2020 at POM.
The importer and the signing customs brokers are facing one count violation of the pertinent provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA); Executive Order No. 877-A otherwise known as “The Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Development Program”; and the Revised Penal Code.
Another criminal case was filed involving EMEGO GENERAL MERCHANDISE for its alleged misdeclaration of P1.95 million worth of general merchandise last January 4, 2021 at POM in violation of the CMTA, in relation to Section 1 of R.A. No. 4653 otherwise known as “An Act To Safeguard the Health of the People and Maintain the Dignity of the Nation By Declaring It A National Policy To Prohibit The Commercial Importation of Textile Articles Commonly known As Used Clothing and Rags”; and the Revised Penal Code.
The criminal complaints were filed before the Department of Justice on June 4, 2021.
The BOC, through BATAS remains committed in filing criminal complaints, as well as administrative complaints, against errant importers and customs brokers who blatantly disregard the laws, rules, and regulations of the Bureau of Customs.
