To improve trade facilitation at Manila South Harbor, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Manila (POM) and Asian Terminals, Inc. (ATI) activates an additional designated examination area (DEA) located at Delgado St. Port Area.
The Delgado ramp became fully operational on April 28, 2021, and security measures are in place, with deployed personnel from ESS, CIIS, PDEA, and Coast Guard. Also, ESS has installed CCTVs in the area.
The new examination area has four slots. Further, it can accommodate an added number of containers to be examined daily, in addition to the existing capacity.
District Collector Michael Angelo Vargas said that putting up an additional ramp intended for examination is needed to ease the processing of incoming imported shipments.
Priority shipments for examination at the Delgado ramp are reefer containers. Orange-tagged shipments that were deemed for further verification after X-ray. In addition, red-tagged shipments will also be examined at the new area to speed up the Port's inspection rate.
The BOC Port of Manila continuously finds ways to enhance trade facilitation and border protection, as mandated by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero. With the establishment of this additional examination area, the bureau can expedite the cargo clearance and increase the detection of shipments.
