There are indications that the three newly elected congressmen might not be marching the same tune as far as their choice for House speakership is concerned.
It's a choice between outgoing Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (Lakas) or Rep. Sonny Belmonte (LP).
Rep-elect Erico Aumentado (2nd district) and Rep-elect Arthur Yap, (3rd district), both Lakas, and known pillars of the Arroyo administration are bent on supporting Pres. Arroyos' bid for speakership.
This might not be true for Rep-elect Rene Relampagos (1st district) who belongs to the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP).
Both Aumentado and Yap told the Chronicle yesterday that if it will be Pres Arroyo to bid for speakership under Lakas, they will support her.
In fact, Aumentado said that as regional Lakas chairman in Central Visayas, he already rounded up the congressmen in the region.
Of the 15, only four are not supporting Arroyo.
He identified the four congressmen as Rep. Tommy Osmena and Rep. del Mar of Cebu, Rep. Josy Limkaichong of Negros Or. and Rep. Relampagos of Bohol.
Yap, in a separate interview with the Chronicle said Lakas is in consultation right now with options being considered.
He said that "if GMA is running, I will support her or support the other options that we may decide to undertake."
For his part, Rep. Relampagos said he is incline to "support the administration of Aquino, but then I will make consultations with my group."
