We listen to politicians because they are the ones running our country or the local government, whichever the case.

We may perceive them, rightly or wrongly, as corrupt, greedy, opportunistic, bungling fools, or what have you but they are the ones up there and we are just down here. Whether we agree or not, their actions result to impacts in our society and our lives... and yes, there are those who prove themselves as the saving grace of Philippine politics.

We listen to them so we can make judgment when the next election comes. Rejection or reelection. The choice is ours.

So go ahead and continue to listen.

Listen well.

indeed. it looks like we've suffered some form of fatigue. it's the feeling we have when we listen to politicians, or after an election, or while the leader is holding his/her position. a feeling of resignation that our situation is not getting any better.

we are supposed to look up and rally behind our leaders in pursuing our national dreams; but what happens is the opposite because we rally behind our politicians to accomplish theirs instead of OURS.

Mas bali kon ang fatigue is a result of holding an awkward position, wherein it doesn't matter whether we rally in front or from behind. Bwahaha. ;D

The question in this thread is "why do we listen to politicians?"  I just gave my view why.
Of course, politicians ought to listen to their constituents, too.

As Covey advised, seek first to understand and then to be understood.

We dont listen to politicians, we just watch them do their circus act especially during election period. That is why we are still behind other countries in ASIA.

indeed, to understand is a prerequisite to be understood.

but to listen is the pathway to understand.

That is why it saddens me, that people listen to these politicians who, i think, don't fully understand their constituents' needs. They need to know the truth: what their 'servants' are up to there, after all these years?

So we don't only listen to what they say. We also "listen" to the things they do.
To listen is not always to take heed. To listen could also lead one to disagree.

Re: Why Do We Listen to Politicians?

So we don't only listen to what they say. We also "listen" to the things they do.
To listen is not always to take heed. To listen could also lead one to disagree.

true.
we listen to be able to discern and come up with a certain decision or conclusion.
but it's not the case when you listen (literally/figuratively) to these politicians; you wouldn't end up trying to discern or make an informed decision, because all they say or do are not worth listening.

as Lolong Mendez said, people "just watch them" and their circus.

do we listen to politicians because of issues? or just because we are watching it like watching a soap opera, where we all know how it's gonna end?
