What The Boholanos Want

The consistently pro-administration electorate in the province demands that newly proclaimed Pres. Benigno "Nonoy" Aquino III will eradicate the widespread corruption in governance.

This sentiment of the Boholanos surfaced during yesterday's "Radyo Merkado," a weekly radio survey conducted over dyRD, this city.

A remarkable 67% of the Boholanos insist that on the first 100 days of Pres. Aquino, the public should see a visible implementation of the campaign against graft and corruption.

Respondents, through text and phone calls, cited the need for the incoming President to make true his battle-cry during the campaign period which was "kung walang corrupt, walang mahirap," (if there are no corrupt men in governance, there will be not much poverty).

Half of the 67% calling for a "war against corruption" said that Pres.-elect Aquino should "set aside politics whose ugly head will rear anew to prevent government officials from being prosecuted for their involvement in graft practices."

Respondents likewise said they expect the "elusive political will" to come handy in the new leadership who earlier claimed that it avoided getting compromised on certain issues and concerns.

The expectation of the public came amid the reported refusal by Aquino to accept some (to his mind) questionable "campaign donors" to include business tycoon Lucio Tan.

Respondents who called for the relentless drive against corruption likewise expressed high hopes that the Aquino administration can "deliver justice faster than the previous Arroyo regime."
