Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn is seeking a senatorial seat in the 2013 mid-term elections after filing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) on Wednesday at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Intramuros, Manila.
He said he just decided on Wednesday (today) to run for a higher office to be able to do something since he is in his last term as mayor of the lone city in Palawan.
“Today lang po. Wala na kasi akong lugar sa Puerto Princesa e, expired na yung term ko. Magpapahinga sana ako kaya lang parang nakakalungkot naman e,†said Hagedorn, who is running as an independent candidate.
Among his advocacy, if elected, would be protecting the environment just like what he has done in his province.
“Siguro po yung ginawa natin sa Puerto Princesa na mag-alaga sa kalikasan, may magagawa rin akong kaunti sa national,†he added.
Hagedorn said he wants to present himself to the electorate, on a national scope in case he plans to run again in the future.
â€Ikako, baka later on, may plano tayo ng mas mataas na posisyon, magpakilala na ngayon,†he said.
He added that his wife, Elena Hagedorn, will be running for mayor of Puerto Princesa in next year’s polls.
