City Kagawad Baba Yap who landed first in the 10-man councilor's slate in last year's elections was expelled by his local party mates of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
Mayor Dan Lim who is the uncle of the young city councilor led the signatories of the ouster move together with Vice Mayor Jaz Montes and their councilor's slate, except for City Kagawad Edgar Bompat who stood by Yap as a sign of sympathy to the young city legislator.
As if timed for his 34th natal day today, Yap was singled out in the ouster move which as far as Bompat is concerned was in "bad taste" considering the flimsy reasons he heard causing the expulsion.
When asked why he did not sign the ouster move, Bompat said he "could not afford to kick out Baba whom he considers as a gentleman and a vibrant public servant even in his youthful age."
Bompat recalled that it was him who endorsed Yap to be included in their slate during last year's election.
"I did not find any valid reason to oust him from the party," Bompat explained while citing his close relationship with both the Yap and Lim families.
"I pity Baba for being a victim of political intrigues," Bompat said while saying that I "stand by my principle" not to sign the ouster move which was peddled by City Barangay Captain Arlene Karaan, former executive assistant of the city mayor.
Yap, when contacted by the Chronicle, declined to issue any reaction to the ouster move initiated by his uncle-mayor. The councilor is the son of Bohol Tropics owners John and Nely Lim-Yap who is the younger sister of the city mayor.
This update in city politics came amid reports that several sectors are endorsing the youthful kagawad to run for mayor in the 2013 elections.
However, Mayor Lim has countered this scenario by anointing his elder brother based in the United States to run for mayor as he will be ending his third term as city chief executive.
