TARLAC CITY , Philippines – Presidential race frontrunner Sen. Benigno “Noynoy†Aquino III said yesterday he would break tradition and take his oath of office as the next president before a barangay chairman as his manifestation of protest against President Arroyo’s appointment of Renato Corona as the new chief justice.
Aquino earlier said he would not want Corona to administer the oath of office, saying he would not respect the authority of the incoming chief justice since his appointment was made under questionable circumstances, having fallen within the constitutional ban on midnight appointments.
Most likely, Aquino said, a barangay chairman from his hometown here will swear him into office.
