The Philippine National Police is working closely with the United States Embassy following its issuance of security warning to American nationals in Metro Manila on Friday.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo said that the PNP leadership has ordered intensified intelligence operations, particularly the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), and coordinated with the embassy to address the concern.
â€We have instructed concerned units in the PNP, the intelligence units, the NCRPO to coordinate closely with our counterparts from the U.S. Embassy to determine their specific security concern and at the same time so we could address it,†said Cerbo.
Cerbo, however, stressed that the police organization has not monitored specific threat.
On Friday, the U.S. Embassy warned all American citizens in the country against a threat in Metro Manila, specifically in Pasay City neighborhood, where a housing facility for U.S. Embassy personnel is located.
Immediately after the U.S. Embassy’s warning, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom issued similar advisories to their nationals.
The U.S. Embassy urged American citizens at this time to exercise extreme caution in their daily routine and to maintain extra awareness regarding their own security; as much as possible, maintain a low profile; vary travel routes and social routines; consider cancelling any American gatherings, celebrations or observations that may be construed as American events, and report any perceived security concern to Philippine authorities.
