MANILA -- The Samahan ng Ex-detainees Laban sa Detensyon at Aresto (Selda), an organization of former political prisoners established during martial law, appealed to the Marcos family to stop “distorting history,†as the burial issue on the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos remains unsettled.
“The members of the family must stop using his remains as a political leverage to wangle concessions from administrations after Marcos. They must desist and be prevented from distorting history by trying to cleanse the Marcos name because he was already judged by the Filipino people in 1986,†Marie Hilao-Enriquez, Selda’s chairperson, told Sun.Star.
This, after the President’s spokesperson said that Aquino is still studying all sides of the issue; even as Vice President Jejomar Binay has already submitted his proposal weeks ago.
Binay had proposed full military honors for the former president. The burial, however, should take place in his hometown in Ilocos Norte, said the Vice President. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex) --
