Former Gov. Rene Relampagos and Prov'l Board Member Yul Lopez are both determined to run for congressman in the first district during the 2010 elections, a post to be vacated by last termer Rep. Edgar Chatto. The two are first degree cousins.
Relampagos told the Chronicle that after making personal consultation with his leaders, he got the endorsement to run for congressman in the first district. However, he was quick to admit that if ever he pushes through with his candidacy, he has to resolve the matter first with his cousin, BM Lopez, who also is hell bent to run for Congress in the same district.
The former governor said per advice from his supporters, it would be best that he will position himself for congressman while Lopez can have the better option to run for re-election as board member (also in the first district).
For his part, Lopez said that his interest to run for Congress has long been announced to his leaders. In fact, it was only recently that he learned of the interest of his cousin, Rene, to run also for the same post.
Negotiations will continue, the board member said, with their uncle, former Assemblyman Chito Castillo who has a major influence on the outcome of their final decision. - the bohol chronicle
