Probably so, Calle.
I took a class in Political Science some 2 years ago and the course was entitled, "American Foreign Diplomacy" and the professor was Dr. Tamashiro, a great professor, in my opinion. I had a rather colloquial discussion with him on regards to Philippine-American policies regarding the Abu Sayaff, we diverged into conversations in Philippine History and he started telling me about Imelda Marcos.
The depth of information he was sharing with me and his tone was rather obligatory towards Madam Marcos. I sensed that he had some kind reverie towards the woman, on basis of her political maneuvers.
Our conversation remains in my memory because it shows to me how much interest the United States has on the Philippines. Current discourse in the Philippines is observed by American Think Tanks and classes are actually being taught, studies being conducted on the present circumstance within the Philippines as we speak.
I have a friend who is in a graduate level course for Political Science, a PhD doctoral student, who is focusing mainly on American Foreign Policy in Asia-Pacific, with focus on American-Philippine Relations in the 21st century.
I love our discussions. Dare I say 'colorful'.

Yours,
