Several lawmakers and city dads in Western Visayas are eyeing a P27-billion bridge project connecting the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said that there will be two major bridges that will link the three islands in Western Visayas.
The first bridge, which will cost around P9 billion, will be 3.9 kilometers long and will connect the municipality of Leganes in Iloilo to the island province of Guimaras.
The second bridge, which is around P18 billion, will be spanning 9.5 kilometers. It will connect Guimaras to the municipality of Pulupandan in Negros Occidental.
Mabilog said it is part of the 10-year development plan for the region, from 2010 to 2020. It will be submitted to the RDC for screening and eventual submission to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).
NEDA is expected to seek sources of funds for the bridge projects.
The mayor also said that Senators Miguel Zubiri, Ferdinand Marcos and Peter Cayetano have approved the project in principle. He also said that Sen. Franklin Drilon has promised to help the bridge project. - PNA
