Senator Manuel Villar Jr. has downplayed the investigation of the Senate on his C5 properties, saying his group is not recognizing any committee that conducted or will conduct the investigation.

“It is purely a political issue and maneuvering concocted by my political enemies in the Senate out to destroy me and my chances for the Presidency. There is no need for closure of this kind of investigation” Villar said in Iloilo City on Sunday while attending the Dinagyang Festival highlighted activities here.

He said he had shown to the media the controversial road project and insisted those were two different projects constructed under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

If it passed his property, the same road project also passed the properties of the family of other presidentiable senator, particularly senator Noynoy Aquino, Villar said.

The Nacionalista Party presidential standard bearer, his vice presidentiable, senator Loren Legarda and senatoriables Bongbong Marcos, Gilbert Remulla and Adel Tamano witnessed the holding of the world-famous festival.

Other national politicians , who showed their faces to more than two million crowd that witnessed the Dinagyang, included presidentiable senator Richard Gordon and his runningmate, former MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando, senators Mar Roxas and Bong Revilla, senatoriables Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Ramon Guico, Riza Baraquel, Satur Ocampo, Tito Sotto and Neric Acosta.

On the other hand, his close partymate Tamano said the public had moved on since the witnesses proved the innocence of Villar regarding the controversial road project.

Remulla said the Senate investigation was all about politics and Villar’s political rivals who do not want to see Villar’s rise in the surveys.

Remulla also said that the Senate investigation was never about the truth but purely about ruining the name of Villar and imperil his chances for the Presidency. (PNA)
